I think the fact they're no longer calling Avengers 3 & 4 Infinity War Part 1 & 2 is evidence they know nobody wants a cliffhanger. The Russos have made two of the most well-received movies in the MCU, so I trust they'll try to make sure the movie ends with a satisfying resolution (even though the Avengers won't defeat Thanos) that doesn't make people feel like they only got half a movie or got ripped off.
Winter Soldier ended with Steve and Sam starting their search for Bucky after he evaded capture, and Civil War ended with Steve breaking his team out of the Raft and going rogue. More sequel hooks than cliffhangers. I think Infinity War will end in a similar way, with the Avengers winning a battle, probably at heavy cost, and having to figure out their next step in ending the war. __________________
