I remember that Whedon originally wanted a second villain in the movie, someone perhaps with more physical strength to go against each of the heroes.
Did he ever mention who he had in mind?

Nope, he would not reveal who it was, but he says the character he had in mind could show up later in the other movies.

Ahh, thanks! Interesting. I hope he will reveal it after he's been added to the MCU, or if the idea is completely scrapped so they have no reason to keep it a secret.
