He is indeed, and love that even Martin put that ahead of anything when he included him in that Hobbit note *_* Notice that he was cast as Smaug but then he got The Necromancer too, that shows confidence in him and how good he is ^^ Imagine what it was for him, it's one of the first books his dad read to him as a kid and the first mention he did to wanting to play Smaug is from 19 July 2010 (ASiP aired July 25 2010) Benedict Cumberbatch - Questions and Answers - Interview Shrlock was still untested and could have been a dissaster and he was practiccally an unknown there, but even then he already wanted Smaug and probably had auditioned already  About hanging out with Martin, dunno how much time they had to play around but i HOPE there was a camera the day Ben saw Martin as Bilbo for the first time XD |

Oh so Peter Jackson already wanted Martin to play Bilbo ever since he thought of doing the movie huh? And Benedict had to go through the usual audition process?
