I've only read the first THG book and I've seen the movie twice

I enjoyed the two other books more than the first one tbh. But the movie was a really good adaptation, though I felt like a person who didn't read the books, wouldn't understand everything that was going on and why certain stuff was happening.

I know what you mean. My mum liked it and she hasn't read the books. But yeah, you are right but i found that when i saw it the second time, I didn't nitpick
