Nice cap. That earring was so distracting.

Joseph is amazing in this, but omg, talk about a gut-wrenching story! I'm with you guys, this movie is pretty hard to watch - bathtub scene, anyone?

I've only liked Michelle Trachtenberg in The Adventures of Pete & Pete and Harriet the Spy. Oh, how I miss old school Nickelodeon! :bawl:

nicky83 08-10-2012 12:54 AM

That scene

Karma Police 08-10-2012 01:35 AM

The bathtub scene is the worst. Also so hard to watch. Even just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

It's really hard to rewatch this movie but then again it's one of his best roles imo.

goodbreakingbad 08-10-2012 11:58 AM

The bathtub scene kills be, but the aftermath - when he breaks down and cries back at his place - I'm a complete mess.

His performance is nothing less than award-worthy.

nicky83 08-10-2012 01:03 PM

And he didn't catch any big nomination for that role :(

Only these:
Seattle International Film Festival - Won Golden Space Needle Award | Best Actor for Mysterious Skin (2004)
Gotham Awards - Nomination | Gotham Breakthrough Award for Mysterious Skin (2004)

goodbreakingbad 08-10-2012 01:57 PM

He should have been nominated for all the big-time awards, too.

Karma Police 08-11-2012 04:03 AM

It was an indie movie though, so big award shows probably wasn't on anybody's radar.

nicky83 08-11-2012 05:15 AM

Well, maybe at the time.. Thankfully now things seem to be changed, look at Blue Valentine, Drive or all those movie who are wonderful at the Sundance Film Festival... I search more movies from that festival than from the Accademy

goodbreakingbad 08-11-2012 08:17 AM

I love how Indies are being more recognized at the big-time awards, too.

That's a great thing

Karma Police 08-12-2012 12:50 AM

But there are still only a few and usually they are only recognized because of a huger name. Like with Drive or Blue Valentine.
