| Software upgrade - PLEASE READ Just drawing everyone's attention to this important admin announcement: *** Hi everyone! Over the next week, Fan Forum will be undergoing a long overdue software upgrade. This new software should improve board performance, provide new features, and increase the security of this site. Many thanks go to the Fan Forum moderators, who for the last few weeks have been helping to beta test the new site. In order to move to the new system, the current Fan Forum boards, posts and users will be backed up Wednesday night, May 5. Posts made or user settings changed on the current boards after that will not show up on the new boards. Also, please note that any saved Private Messages that you may have can't be imported into the new software, so you might want to copy and paste those messages somewhere else on your computer. Important Information: Your Login ID in the new system will be your Publicly Displayed Name in the current system, rather than your Login Name in the current system. This means everyone needs to change their current Publicly Displayed Name to be what they want to be called in the new system by Wednesday, May 5, when the transfer will be done. Once your Login ID is set in the new system, you will not be able to change it! Also note that custom avatars will have to be moved over manually, so make sure you have a copy to upload into the new system. The switch will take place next weekend, May 8-9. Once the new site is opened, the current site will remain open for a time until we're sure the new system is working properly. If you have any questions or problems during this process, please post them to the Software Upgrade Discussion Topic on the Questions & Answers board. We look forward to seeing you all on the new and improved Fan Forum! *** Because the files are going to be exported on Wednesday night, but the new site won't be up until the weekend, any new posts you make on Thursday or Friday won't be carried over. You might want to keep a copy of your posts somewhere so when the switch happens, you can re-post your comments on the new board. Cheers all. | Just so I know: My Login Name is Annschatz and unless I wanna be called Anneschatz by next week, I should change it into Celebriän to make sure this is the name that will show up eventually. | Master Fan   | I think if you want to keep the name you have now (~*~Celebriän~*~), you just don't do anything. But if you want to be called Anneschatz, you change your current Publicly Displayed Name into Anneschatz. | Anja's right on both issues. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img] Anne - also remember that if you keep your displayed name as ~*~Celebriän~*~, that will also become your Login name. Your original login name will no longer work on the new system. Therese - you should only lose the posts you make on Thursday/Friday, but if you find that there was a glitch in the system and you lost more posts than you should, PM me or one of the admins and hopefully they can sort it out. That is? So if I want to keep my name, I'll have to change my actual displayed name for my password word? | |||

[img]smilies/wink.gif[/img] On the new system, you will only have ONE name, instead of the four different ones you can have on the current system. Your password won't change. For example, my login name is Silversun and that's also my currently-displayed name. I don't plan to change it, so I'll keep it as my currently displayed name. When the software upgrade is done, I will still log in with the login name Silversun, and the password that I have now. But, if your currently displayed name is different to your login name, and I'm going to use Anne as an example because she's the first one on this thread I can see that fits this (hope you don't mind! [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] ) Her login name (you can see this below her post) is Anneschatz. But her displayed name when she posts (what's above her avatar and stars) is ~*~Celebriän~*~. If she keeps ~*~Celebriän~*~ as her login name when the upgrade happens, she will no longer use Anneschatz to log in onto FF. On the new system, her new login name is ~*~Celebriän~*~, and her password remains the same. So Michelle, if you're happy with Michelsita as your displayed name, then I suggest you do nothing over the upgrade. Then, when the system asks you to log in to FF, just write Login name: Michelsita password: whatever you have now Again, I think my explanation just made something simple into something confusing. [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] I'm bad at explanations. Hopefully you guys are clear. If not, you can try me again or better yet, go to the Q&A board where I'm sure there are people who can explain this better.
