My thoughts and ramblings on the episode:

Will falling for Caroline at first glance because she's perfect to him.

I love the look on Ham's face when Finn asks "Jake, had a crush lately?", and also when Jake is reciting I Try.

Will thinks Caroline is out of his league and is feeling sorry for himself yet again. It does get old after 4 episodes.

Ha, I love that Scout's reading Introduction to Psychology and is tricking Will into asking Caroline out. Awesome.

I really like the dynamic between Will and Bella in this episode, with Will asking her for her dating advice. I also really love the relationship between Bella and Will's mum.

Ham, poor poor Ham!

Lena keeps confusing him, and then Jake decides to skip the Cotillion and Ham is so disappointed!

Come on, Finn, just admit it already. You only wanted Will in your room without his pants on.

Grace! She's such a stereotypical character, but I always thought there was more to her than meets the eye.

I know Bella and Will's entrance at the Cotillion was supposed to be all special, but it was a bit too much, with every single guy staring at her. She's pretty, I get it, but her outfit wasn't that amazing, to be honest.

Will, feeling sorry for himself yet again, decides to play pool by himself (how boring can you get?) instead of having a good time, mingling with the other students. It's no wonder he only has Scout as a friend at Rawley.

Lena's "yeah, he's cute" made me smile. I love how she's trying to play cupid for Jake and Ham.

The balcony scene between Scout and Bella really made me feel for them again, especially Scout. He loves her so much. I hate that Paige interrupted them before they could kiss (but then again, that would've probably made things even more weird between them).

I get that Will is insecure about being a townie, but dear God, it's not like Caroline wouldn't have found out at sooner or later anyway. In fact, I'm surprised she didn't know already. I expected the Rawley kids to be like "that's the guy with the scholarship".

I like Caroline and I'm completely on her side in the Will/Caroline argument, but she's not really all that interesting as a character, is she?

Ham is so insecure about the whole Jake thing, but then he decides to just follow his heart and throw caution to the wind.

(Thank you, Lena!!) There is absolutely nothing about the bathroom scene and the bedroom scene that I don't love.

Have I mentioned Sean is the sweetest guy ever? Aww. The Sean/Bella dancing on the street is so romantic.

During Finn's class, I really thought that Will's note was kind of cute. And Lena smiles when Jake and Ham arrive together! Aww.

Question: By the looks of it there was a class the morning after Cotillion. So the Cotillion was on a school night? Until (after) midnight?!

Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts!

Finally, I'm reviewing. Okay, a little warning: this is one loooong review. Consider yourself warned. Also, there's excesive use of the word "cute". Sue me.

I love Will's expression in the beginning, when Caroline passes by. He's so @_@

But I must say I don't find her all that pretty. And she looks like a snob who knows just all too well what effect she has on guys (that's my first impression, don't kill me, it changes later).

Bella fixing a car. my first thought: Dear God, what is that phone? Is it that huge so that if she'll drop it in the engine, it'll be easy to find or something? I love the interaction between her and Sean (Sean's a sweety, too, I really can't choose between him and Scout) - it's witty and easy and they have really good chemistry on screen. Also, Bella's really cute with her dirty face.

Class on grass (it even rhymes!

) Hamilton's an awful reader, sorry. I like Scout and Paige together; she's cool. Scout gets all the pretty girls, doesn't he?

Caroline appears, wading through the trees with her stupid little handbag - not very princess like. And Finn totally feels her up, btw.

Scout staring at Paige's rack - funny. I love Kate's laugh. And her "oops, busted" expression when Finn asks her if she had a crush lately. And Hamilton's all *ears turning* and could she choose a more girly song? Not cool, Jake, not cool at all. And I like that when Will's listening to Jake reciting the song, Caroline (who sits next to him!) checks him out. Seriously, check it and see I'm telling the truth. And Jake looking at Hamilton when she recites is love. Anything Jake does is love, but this even more so. And Will is so obvious - he says "no one can stop you from falling in love" and meets Caroline's eyes, but then he doesn't dare ask her out. Wimp.

Will's totally stalking Caroline. I'd be weirded out if I was her.

Hamilton whacking Jake with the oar. That must have hurt like a bitch. What's he doing, waving that thing around anyway, when there's people around him? Stupid Ham. And he doesn't really look sorry, he looks amused. I like how Jake's asking him to the cotillion without actually asking. She's cunning, that girl

And Hamilton's obviously thinks it's a date, and he's trying to agree without making it look like he thinks it's a date. Those two are so funny. And when she's walking away, Hamilton's looking at her strangely, like he's trying to figure something out. Jake totally has breasts in that scene, btw. Maybe that's what he's trying to figure out

Scout and Will talking about Caroline. Will's annoying, he talks about himself in third person, like he's some character in a novel. But Scout is funny and cute. I love Scout, and his psychology book for beginners

Scout's really really good looking in this scene. I don't know why, maybe it's the angle, but his face looks really sharp and handsome. Maybe it's because he's sitting down and I can't see how short he is.

Caroline's actually really cute when Will's asking her out. But she's better off without him. She has a really deep voice, doesn't she? She can rival Kate's. Maybe she's a smoker, too. And I only just noticed how short her dress actually is.

Will and Bella at the diner. Bella's cute. I like their relationship, they treat each other like they're cousins or something. I could never really see why people pair them off, actually. I can't say enough times how much I love Bella's lines. They gave her really good lines in the show. And Will's way of asking her to the cotillion is really lame. It reminded me of Ron and the Yule Ball in the fourth book of HP "hey, Hermione, you're a girl!" ugh *punch* though Will's actually kind of cute in this scene. I can't believe I said that, maybe I'm getting sick

When Finn and Will are talking about a tux, Finn's flirting! He like leans on the wall, cross his legs nonchalantly, gives Will a "come-heather" look... I'm not imagining it! *pout*

Hamilton and Lena. Orange is not his colour. I love it when Lena starts talking about him and Jake and he's all like "what? What? Who have you been talking to?" and Lena's all "never mind that, lets go together and make Jake jealous!" and she's off before he's even figured what she wanted. Poor Ham, he's not all that bright, is he. Pretty, but not a genius. And Hamilton's really nervous when Jake appears, like "****! Is he going to be mad at me now?" and Jake's all *flat face* and Lena's all smug. And Ham's soooo disappointed when Jake says he's not going, it's written all over his sad little face. And then when Jake says that line about who he wanted being already taken and gives him this pointed look, Ham's scared and excited all at once. Poor Ham, he's so confused. You can just see the wheels turning in his head. And then he makes a stupid excuse to get out of there. And Jake's checking his ass when he walks away - you can see her eyes flicking down

Will in Finn's room - totally what you said, Anja.

Grace is annoying. And Will's mom is really nice. But I'll never get the Mr/Mrs thing. Bella's known her for all her life, and she still refers to her as Mrs. Krudski and not Suzan. Americans are so strange.

Scout getting all defensive about Bella - not so funny.

If I were Bella, I'd punch Grace's lights out years ago. Jeez, she's annoying. There's a sparkly noise when Bella unearths her mother's dress. I'm sorry, is this a Disney movie, and I missed the memo? And it's really funny that they both say she looks like her mother, when Kate and the other actress look nothing alike.

The cotillion looks like someone took it directly out of "Mona Liza Smile", including that hideous yellow sweater. It really bothers me that Paige is so much taller than Scout. But poor Paige, seeing that look on your date's face when another girl walks in. I actually like Bella better the way she usually looks. That hairstyle doesn't suit her, and the dress isn't all that. And Bella going "they're all naked" is cute.

Poor Jake, lying in the dark crying. Don't be sad honey, you're the prettiest girl here. Also, she's got killer abs.

Paige is really nice to Bella, despite the fact that Scout stares at her like crazy, and I love that Bella gives him that look "god Scout, compliment your date already, jeez!" I agree with you Anja, Will is really lame, going to play by himself (at least it's not with himself. Or Finn) and the guy who asks Bella to dance looks really sleazy. Scout dancing with Paige but looking only at Bella - my heart goes out to them.

What are the odds of Jake and Hamilton entering the room at the same time? Since it's tv, 100%, apparently. And Jake standing with the other guy (let's call him Eddie, he looks like an Eddie) but looking at Hamilton, and Hamilton looking at Jake and only half-listening to Lena... until she starts outing him in a room full of judgmental teenagers, of course, then he's all ears. Mainly to shut her up. If I were him, I'd be insulted by her "hell, I've even got a crush on you!" and notice he can't deny it! He starts "wait, we're not -" and then he switches to "stop saying that!" and when she's like "throw caution to the wind" he's like "pfft" and it sounds like a fart. I'm sorry, but it does. And what exactly is "the hairy eyeball"? I know what I'm thinking, but somehow, I don't think that's what she meant.

Hamilton, of course, is running away. And when Jake leaves, she pokes the other guy in the stomach without noticing. But it's like poke-poke-poke-poke-poke, I mean wtf? Eddie doesn't seem to mind, though. On second thought, I wouldn't mind, either.

Stupid Will, lying to Caroline. I'm totally on her side, too. But then, I'm on any side that isn't Will's. She seems to be really into him, though. Maybe she's actually blind?

Scout and Bella make my heart ache. But poor Paige. And poor Bella, because of Grace.

Hamilton and Jake meeting eyes across the room - you could power my whole house for a year on the power in that look alone. And then they meet and Jake's all earnest and "we need to talk" and look - Jake freckles! And Ham's all "should I kiss him? I want to kiss him, but should I?" and then he runs away. Again. But of course it's harder for him. But he regrets it immediately and follows Jake. Isn't it lucky there was no one in the bathroom? Again, that only happens on tv. And Jake's totally confused and Ham's all "man on a mission!" and I adore this scene. Truly, there was no way they could've made it better. Except maybe make them kiss longer. I love love love how they kiss - with the face grabbing and everything. And their expression's afterwards: Jake all *careful, wait* and Hamilton's like "yeah, that pretty much clinched it". And then Jake's "I'm a girl" and Ham's like not getting it, he's all "wait, are you telling me you're a girl inside or something?" and when she's doing her bikini speech Ham's obviously thinking "omg, how did I miss it before, Jake's totally crazy!" and then he's totally freaked, which is understandable, but poor Jake. She's like "well, that could've gone better".

Sean is so cute. I would totally date him. Y'know, if Jake's taken. And Bella's all like "my hero!" and he's all *eyes sticking out* and then they dance and they're so damn cute. I think that in this scene she really starts to fall in love with him. And Will's all "teehee". Is that really Kate singing? She's not half bad.

Will's busted. Stupid Will, you deserve it. Poor Caroline. I like her parting line about Will fitting in with all the phonies, because that's exactly what I feel he's trying to do since he started Rawley - he's trying to reinvent himself and be someone he's not.

Hamilton's all pouty and thoughtful and brooding. He's actually quite cute like this, he should try thinking more. Jake pacing around agitated in her undies (in front of an open window, might I add. It's a good thing everyone's at the cotillion).

Poor Scout, looking around for Bella and finding Paige. I like that we see him and Paige dancing and Bella and Sean dancing at the same time, and Bella's all happy and he's all sad. He's not over her, but she mostly is.

Morning, Jake's writing a letter to Hamilton and guess who it is, knocking so impatiently at the door? Of course, it's Ham, who looks like he can't decide what he's going to do first - be angry at her or kiss her. He tries to be angry, but it's not really working for him, so he decides to kiss her instead. And that's definitely working, on me at least, and it seems to be working on Jake, too. Again with the facegrabbing! And she's standing on tip-toe. *sigh* they're so perfect and passionate, I keep expecting him to throw her on the bed. Oh well, maybe next time.

Will's note is actually kind of cute. Dear god, that's the second time I said Will and cute in the same sentence during this review. Quick, someone call a doctor! And Jake and Ham arriving late together - and you know just why they were late

shame we didn't get to watch. Maybe he threw her on the bed after all. And Lena's knowing smile

So those are my thoughts

ETA: I forgot your question, Anja! Yeah, I guess the cotillion was on a school night. But it's summer session, they all get up at 10 anyway and the only classes they actually have are litrature and crew ^__^

I have to say, I think Michelle is gorgeous, but as Caroline I don't really find her all that pretty either.

I don't think it was intentional or anything, but it does remind me of 5-year-old boys throwing rocks at girls because they like them.

I think it's really difficult to do that. I mean, one wrong word and Ham would freak out (again). ... It's like they're having one conversation, but they actually both know that there's more to that conversation, and they just both don't want to say certain things. You know?

Michelle is really pretty, but not in YA.

Finn is feeling her up, I swear! Rewatch it.

Yeah, it's like they're having two conversations - one with words, which is one conversation, and the other with their eyes, and that's another conversation completely.

Yeah, Lena is a total slasher. I want the pretty boys, but it's even better if the pretty boys want each other! A girl after my own heart.

Ham didn't forget they had a date, he just freaked out. For the 3458th time.

At both your reviews, and boy when you two say long you really mean long dont you?

OK, I just watched the episode and I cannot tell you how fangirl Im feeling right now.

There were 2 occasions where I actually had to pause to stop freaking out

One was when Jake says 'Its a date' I just though Ham was gonna freak out again but

he didnt. and then there was when she said' The only person I had my eye on is going with someone else' or something like that again experience has shown this is just about the time that Hamilton freaks out but again he didnt, he seems to be acknowledging his feelings at last.

considering he knew nothing about her and well she wasnt even that pretty, she looked very good during cotillion though, but just not normally.

I do not get why stupid, stupid Will had to lie again, has he not learned during the past four episodes, he lied and cheated to get into Rawley which got him busted with Finn, he lied to Sean and now t Caroline, sheesh boy anyone could have learned by now not to lie and well at least he gets what he deserves

for bringing my ship together when she was talking to Ham during the dance my shipper heart actually felt like exploding and he just couldnt deny it and then the whole throwing caution to the wind thing and how he almost chicken out but then goes after Jake is just

nothing could have made that scene better, the bathroom scene is just one of the best shipper scenes ever.

Bella looked ugly at cotillion, not just un-pretty I thought she looked ugly, Im not a fan of her normally but she looks much better with the other hairstyle and the dress was just weird, how is it that after all these years (at least 18 or something right?) she can just pick out a dress from inside a box and it doesnt to be washed or anything its perfectly wearable?

Grace is so ugh,

I hated her, how awful can she be, very stereotypical, and OK weird and random question here was Dawsons mum called Grace in DC? Cause for some unknown reason I keep thinking of Wills mum when I see Grace in your reviews

Do we not see any more of Finn/Hamiltons mum? was that just a one episode thing? Id have liked to see them at the dance.

SEAN is the SWEETEST thing ever! :inlove: seriously god if I was Bella and I didnt even know about Scout being a brother Id totally choose Sean, he is so much more sweeter and just kinder and with Scout its all angst and just ew.
The dance at the end was beautiful, his smile was to die for.

Why was Ryder not in this episode, I would have liked to see Charlie in a tux.

Balcony scene between Bella and Scout was weird, what was that 'do you ever pretened we're not what we are?' I mean Ewwww, what good is pretending gonna do for you, as far as you know youre related so its just eww to even say that, they should stop all these moves and conversations and why do they jus not tell Sean and Paige about it, it would stop all the paranoia on both sides.

Oh and this episode made me kind of feel like the writers knew this was gonna be an 8 episode only show cause I have never seen a show move as fast as this one, the whole Hamilton finding out Jake is a girl thing would have been shown probobly in the season finale or something (a season with 24 episodes)

I really liked Lena and I say if the show would've gone on she should've became an occasional cast member, like every few episodes. I just found her whole 'go, be with Jake' speech very sweet. Sadly, this is the last time we see her.

And oh my gosh, yes! Sean and Bella dancing in front of the garage is the sweetest thing ever.

Bella's singing is a little weird, but they're just so cute together. And I agree with whoever said it above, you can tell whatever she felt for him has passed because she seems happy.

Even though Scout seems weirdly fixated, I feel badly for him. Sometimes people come into your life and you convince your heart it's for a reason, even when the truth is staring you in the face...

Will's story for this episode bores me. I always fast forward the pool table scene...

As for J/H. *sigh* I smile when she gets hit with the paddle, that's just funny, I'm sorry. But I think Jake fails to see how confusing this is for Hamilton, which is why she asks him to the Cotillian. And her whole 'go solo together' thing is amusing only because you know she's trying to come off casual and uninterested, when it's really the opposite.

Jake makes for a cute boy in that tux. Lanky, but cute. And I love that Hamilton walks away from her, does his little panic walk and then walks after her. And Jake's all stammering and whimpering as he's closing in on her until he finally shuts her up with a kiss. Then he backs away with that slightly odd expression and she knows she has to go there and tell him. And then BAM-boobs!

And then Jake walks around in her underwear for, like, the 37th time.

Yeah I liked the contrast between Scout and Bellas impressions during the dance scenes, hes so miserable and shes so happy with Sean, at least the thing with Sean is reasonable and understandable wheras in my opinion the thing with Scout doesnt really make sense, I dont really see how they could have this great epic romance in like a day or two.

Oh and this may sound stupid but I think Scout looks a bit like Bellas dad in a few episodes.

Wills story is basically the same one he has had in the last 3 episodes they just change the characters hes lying to.

Yeah, exactly. I still find it weird that someone as pretty as Michelle managed to look so not-pretty on YA.

I would've loved to see her a a regular, too. I hate that she just disappears after this episode. But I guess her work is done, now that J/H are together.

They knew right from the start that the first season would only have 8 episodes. You're right, otherwise it would've taken waaaay longer until the whole Jake thing would've been revealed.

Wills story is basically the same one he has had in the last 3 episodes they just change the characters hes lying to.

After watching Alias and Lost, Im pretty used to characters coming and going but those shows normally give a reason wheras on YA characters like Lena and Kate just come and go and no one bothers to give an explanation. Id have liked to see more of Lenas cupid, wether she finds out Jake is a girl and how she takes that news.

Also would have liked to see more of Kate/Finn, like they were both chaperoning the dance, to see the tenstion there.

If the show would've went on I'm sure we would've gotten to see more of Lena(you know, Lena and Scout...that could've been a possibilty...or even Lena and Will. Will's a bore, but I think she would've been a lively verbal sparring partner for him, you know) and her friendship with Jake and Ham. She seemed to want them to confront their feelings with each other as two 'boys', but it would've been amusing had she taken issue with the couple for an episode or two after learning Jake was a girl. Overall I think she would've been an alli to them, and the gang in general.

Ugh again I think Lena can do better than Will, Will can be with Bella,

pair up my two least favourite characters so none of my favourite ones get stuck with them, thats my strategy.

Though Lena/Scout I could see sort of.

I think Lena would've given Will snark about his self-pitying ways, and ultimately would've said everything to him the fans would've wanted to say. That is ''The world hasn't reserved a special kind of misery for you and you alone. Lighten the hell up.'

Oh wow, if she would have said something like that to Will, she would have found her way into the hall of fame of bestestest TV characters ever. Anyone to smack some sense into Will is

in my opinion.
