Episode Discussion - Episode 3 - Kiss and Tell

I love the Bella/Scout scene in the beginning. When Bella says "you should ask her out", it seems like she's trying to convince herself that this is the way things should go.

Ryder!!! I might just warn you already that I love him beyond words. And that I especially love every single scene he has with Will. He's so snarky and flirty all the time! And such an ass!!

I was never a fan of the Finn/Kate at all.

Can I ask something? How can the gas station make any profit at all if Bella gives people stuff on the house all the time?

I think the relationship that Jake has with Consuela is really cute. I love their phone conversation.

Muchie! The first scene with Lena is awesome. Jake watching Lena/Hamilton and being totally jealous, then interrupting them, and Lena completely falling for Jake because she looks like her ex boyfriend.

I was never that fond of Paige. She's a bit too forward for my taste. Not just when she's incredibly flirty with Scout. Also with Bella. Why would she tell a girl she has known for a day, and that is apparently friends with Scout, that she's had a crush on him for years and wants him to be her first?!

I think what Finn says at one point in this ep, "It's clear, until you're right next to me, and then it's blurry", pretty much sums up both Bella/Scout and Jake/Ham to me.

Will, who's usually so focused on himself and his problems that it's pathetic, suddenly decides to risk his scholarship and his future for the affair of a married woman? I know he admires Finn, but I wouldn't do that for someone I've only known a couple of weeks.

Sean is so happy to finally be with Bella at the drive-in. Aww. But Bella only "gives in" once she sees Paige and Scout getting closer. Probably because her brain tells her that it's the right thing to do.

Scout, on the other hand, is so not happy to be there with Paige. And I don't think Paige is really enjoying herself either. But, Scout is also trying to convince himself that it's the right thing to do. Again, Paige is way too forward in this scene for me.

The inevitable Scout/Sean fight. Sigh. I was terribly amused by the "What are you, her brother?" line.

Jake/Ham/Lena is hilarious. I love that Lena only has eyes for Jake (just like Ham!), and Jake is all "um, awkward!". Jealous Hamilton is so cute. He's so bitchy to Lena when she tells him about the full moon, and also once Jake leaves and she wants help to hook up with Jake. And then she's all "Jake's so hard to read" and poor Ham can't help but agree. I love the scene after Jake comes back when both Ham and Lena stare at her and Jake can only wonder how she has gotten herself into this mess.

Ryder at the drive-in! Lovely, truly. I love his lines.

Bella is so annoyed at Scout after she's talked to Paige and doesn't want to see him anymore. Not that that's really possible, with them working across the street from each other and sharing a friend.

Ham tells Jake that Jake won Lena. Awww. Ham is so obviously hurt by this whole situation. He's admitting his defeat, but actually he should probably go to Lena and tell her that she won Jake. Poor Ham!

You know, I really do think Finn loves Kate, from the bottom of his heart. And that's why he doesn't even tell her that there's a tape, that two students know what's going on. He ends the whole thing, for once and for all, to protect her, her family, and her life. Aww.

I liked Paige in her last scene this episode, when she talks to Scout by the lake. She's very sweet. Scout really wants to be in love with her, but I guess he's right, it's just timing.

The Jake/Lena scene. Oh my. Lena kisses her, and Jake is all "wait, what the hell is going on?". I loved how sweet Jake explained herself to Lena afterwards. I don't suppose a lot of "real" boys would do that. And then Lena drops the fact that Ham likes Jake and leaves. How mean!!!! And then Ham, of course, is even more hurt and jealous because he thinks they hooked up. *pets Ham*

Will really sees Finn as... what, a father figure? That hug was so sweet.

I love how Scout only dates Paige to hang out with Bella again. I don't know how Bella could ever believe him when he told her, because when he said "I'm really into Paige, I actually have a crush on her" it was not all that convincing. Judging by her crying, she did believe him though. Or, maybe, she knew he was lying, and she cried because she knew it was the way things had to be? Hm...

Can't wait to read your thoughts!

I had forgotten those scenes. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

Really enjoyed reading your commentary Anji.

I mean, she already does it for Rawley people she has known for a day or less. I bet it's the same with family friends or school friends or other people in town she has known her whole life. The Banks family could probably be rich by now if it wasn't for her!

If you have the time you should totally rewatch the show (and come here to share your thoughts! ). It's such fun to see all those scenes again.

Well I (finally) watched this episode!

Ryder - where oh where have you been these past two episode? I have to agree with Anja, love this character, his english accent is I love how his dialouge, the whole video camera scene, do I sense that the deans wife seems to find him attractive also? How many guys does she want exactly?

Id forgotten about Finn/Kate so I was kind of surprised when I saw that, hehe and then Ryder knocking and running away, what were they thinking getting together in the teachers room was it?

Yeah, theyre town isnt that big is it so she doesnt charge her friends, dont think she charges the poor and she didnt charge Paige whom shed been introduced to for 5 seconds who is actually pretty rich, not very smart Bella.

Oh Jake/Hamilton/Lena is amazing, it looks like theyre competing for Lena but theyre competing for each other. Her explanation after Lena kisses her is amazing too 'Im in love with someone else" and then Hamiltons expression when he sees her coming out Jakes room, poor Ham, *pets him with Anja*

I dont like Paige either, I was thinking about how straightforward the girls in this show are, Bella Paige and then Lena who threw herself at Jake, the guys kind of just have to sit there and wait dont they, seems like poor Seans the only one doing any chasing to me.

I liked the fact that Will didnt compain as much about being poor anymore and I actually understood why he stole the camera, if it wasnt for Finn he wouldnt even be in that school so I think he felt like he owed him.

Scout at the end was a bit weird, hes obviously only with Paige to get to hang out with Bella, its just not right, if I found out the guy I had feelings for was my brother Id stay the hell away until my feelings went away.

Oh and one thing I forgot to say about the last episode and the thing I realized during the whole 'previously on YA' thing, I hate Bellas dad, hes just a weird actor, his voice sounds weird and the whole explanation about why Bella and Scout cant be together could have been much much better.

I totally sensed that too, when he says 'they grow up so fast' and leaves and she kind of lingers afterwards and says 'yes they do'. What was up with that?!
If the show had gone on, oh I totally would've wanted some Ryder/Jake.

Jake, The Accidental Stud.
The thing I love about that is Jake tells Lena how impressed she is and how she herself wouldn't have the courage to put herself out there like that(the way she says ''because I sure wouldn't'', aww) and she's actually telling Lena the truth. Because Jake can't quite seem to muster up the nerve to confess everything to Hamilton. Everything being her facade and her feelings for him. I think that's a terribly cute scene.

I like Sean with Bella, but I felt the writer(s) or whoever made him too....confrontational(sp?). Like every time he's in the vicinity of Scout he starts a fight. I mean, the character totally has a sweet side to him(especially in the next episode! squee!), but still. Slap that popcorn, Sean, slap it good!

Me too. Up until this point I haven't really felt anything for that pairing, but I liked the window scene. Bella crying, awww. I've been in Scout's position(without the possible incest part), where you want someone you can't have and...yet you still do things and clinge to the hope that maybe one day...something could turn the circumstances around. I guess because I identify, I don't mind him using Paige.

Will bores me in this episode. If I had been caught and suspected of stealing by the dean's wife, I would've totally been like ''before you make any judgements, please just watch the tape''. Just saying.

Oh and one more thing that bugs me. I hate the song that plays over the Finn/Kate kiss. So schmaltzy, egh.

Oh yeah, the way she lingers tells me she cant resist Ryder either.

Ryder/Jake? and also Scout/Jake, You want everyone to have Jake dont you? But yeah I see where youre going though I dont think we had any Ryder/Jake scenes in this episode.

I know what you mean about Sean, hes this very sweet guy with an amazing smile but he just seems to get so aggressive around Scout.

That was just what I was thinking when I saw the scene I was like 'say something, you idiot,! '

I dont remember what the song was, Im gonna have to watch again.

Well, I only want Jake/Scout in the New Beginning universe, not in the actual show.

Oh, wait until Free Will, I think it is. If the series had continued I suspect we'd be treated to Ryder finding out Jake's secret and blackmailing Ham and/or Jake. I could totally see some cat and mouse games there.

And as for Ryder in this episode, I his ''You should've hit him...''

Nobody can resist Ryder. Not Kate Fleming, not Jake, not Will. Certainly not me.

Yeah, agreed. But I guess they wanted to make him your average teenage boy that gets angry when you try to steal his girlfriend?

I could've understood if the Dean had found it, but it's not like Kate Fleming doesn't know already that she's having an affair.

and certianly not me. what a great way to start the episode by having him introduced, certainly put a stupid grin on my face.

That would have been a cool storyline with blackmailing Ham or Jake

Why dont they just tell Sean that hes her brother, he seems very touchy about the whole thing, one explanation should stop his jealousy, like in Star Wars where Leia tells Han why she loves Luke. (Yeah Im a geek like Eric from that 70 show, I refrence everything to Star Wars )

Yeah but if the Dean had found it I would have done anything to stop him seeing it but as its the Deans wife and shes the subject of the tape then Id just show her the tape to stop all the 'your getting expelled' talk.

I guess everybody likes to keeps secrets in YA, even when telling other people those secrets would just make things so much easier for everyone.
