Always wondering It really is the best series ever, I'm all the time rewatching the episodes; I just can't get enough of Jake & Hammie

I was never quite certain that they really did...or at least as badly as Will/Bella/Scout had thought. And I say this all because of the letter ending up at Joe's but the jacket is in Ryder's dorm kind of puts a big plot hole in things because I read somewhere that the actual official script places Grace/Ryder/and Ryder's entourage at the dorms first! In the script Finn kicks Grace out but not before she suggests going to Joe's. So the jacket gets taken off at Rawley but some how the letter gets taken to Joe's? :looks:

OK this is the stuff of fanfiction but just suppose Ryder picked up the letter planning to give it back to Grace...but after loses some 3K he somehow then forgets the letter and then leaves it there at Joes.

What this explains is Grace still knows nothing of the letter its existence or whereabouts. And what it could also explain is that calculating grin we get from Ryder like he has just remembered something and is now planning to use that against Will and his friends...and therefore not really oppose to lending his car for that quick 35 mile ride/7-hour walk to Carson

God, I never even noticed that plot hole before. Do you suppose the letter might have gotten mixed up with all the money they were carting around?

I don’t recall there being a mix up with the money

We have Ryder on the phone with Joe asking for more time to gather the money together for the 3K pay-off, and within the same scene Ryder puts on Bella jacket as something he planned to hock. Then later both get locked up in Ryder’s trunk until Will/Bella/Scout finds both jacket and money after popping the trunk.

So it remains (if following the script) that the only way the jacket endded up a Ryder’s and the letter at Joe’s is if the letter gets carried to Joe's…Side note is if this had been a filmed scene it may have been jettisoned for this reason…

Another side note: Given one could surmise that they (Ryder’s entourage) went to Ryder’s dorm at the beginning of the night and again in the morning…but the problem I have with that is why have a car full of Rawley boys drop her off? One would think that either they would do this on the way home from Joe’s or in the very least be only one dropping her off especially if they had been up all night and were in need of sleep.

I never thought about that, to be honest, but now that I've read what you wrote I'm seriously confused. You're right, they must have been at Joe's before they were at Ryder's dorm where Grace left the jacket. And I also agree that it would have been pretty stupid if all the guys had driven into town just to drop Grace off. So my guess would be they were at Ryder's, then went to Joe's, back to the dorms, back to Joe, dropped Grace off and drove back to Rawley. Not that it makes any sense that they drive from one place to another all night.

Let's see if I get this straight.
Ryder and his posse pick up Grace from the gas station. Go to Joe's.
She leaves the letter behind.
Goes to Ryder's dorm where the jacket is left.

But didn't Grace say they were at that British guy's dorm, then Joe's?

I still think I'm !

But we're forgetting that boys might just like to be rowdy and drive around for no reason. It's not like you don't have that abhorrant species hooning around your hometown, right?

True. Young guys that had just gotten their driving permit. What else would they do but drive around town, check out the townie chicks... Good point, Nicky!

I just checked the transcript and she only says that they were at Ryder's and at Joe's. She doesn't tell Bella where she went first.

Nicky, of course! We all know those kind of people. The Rawley guys picking up/dropping off Grace makes sense, since they all go and search for Ryder's car together as well. He could easily have driven to Grace alone.

Another thing that always confused me: Ryder goes to play cards at Joe's place at least once (but probably more often than that), still he doesn't know where Joe lives and needs Grace's help to find the house.

Nono, the card-playing place is an abandoned... somethingorother. They don't play at Joe's house. I think I screwed canon up for you because in my fics they do.

Aha. She does say they were at Ryder's AND Joe's, but the order in which they went was not stipulated... But they would have had to have gone to Ryder's last - where the jacket was left behind.

As with Ryder, his friends were probably as arrogant and mean as he was, and used people's weaknesses as their strengths. So it makes total sense that they would do everything together...they'd be stronger in a pack then on their own.

Ahhh...So only Joe's old friends Will, Bella and Grace knew where he REALLY lived... BUT didn't Grace say something about 'how do you think he got to Joe's'...

Really? I've always thought that they played at Joe's house.

Brek, I think another reason why Ryder and his friends drove together (at least when they were searching for Ryder's car) is that they want to get the car back and therefore need to appear strong so Joe will give it to them. If Ryder had turned up there alone, I don't think Joe would have given the car back immediately.

I think if Ryder has rocked up at Joe's solo, Joe would mess up Ryder's pretty face, and I couldn't allow that!
