Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. ... and yes, the trailer is certainly intense. Though my understanding is that the film itself is somewhat more subdued, but with intense moments. It certainly looks impressive.     __________________

Not horror, no. If it sticks to the book though (and the trailer suggests that it has certainly taken some liberties) it is very dark.
Serena is caustic. Her view of the world is almost solipsistic. She is fiercly loyal, until she sees your loyalty to her waver, and then she cuts you off. If she perceives you to be a threat, she will elimnate you. Coldly, and without mercy. She will do anything to protect herself, and shape her world. Including murder. The whole narrative is extremely bleak. __________________

The best actress race is pretty thin at the moment as well, so Jen would be in with a pretty good shout if the movie had a US release, and obviously was of a high enough standard.

Meh, it's probably better if she isn't a contender. Three nominations in three years is too damn much. I doubt she'd campaign for one anyway because she seems worried about a possible backlash. Also, she deserves a break from the award season in general. They're really intense and exhausting.
I mean she is already the youngest actress to ever have three nominations. That's incredible. There's no rush for a fourth. __________________
