Part 1 syndrome seems to be continuing

but Empire's reviewer had read the book, so I can't complain about their thoughts on what it's missing.

Total Film gave it 4 though!

would I be right in thinking that Empire reviewed it in the way you expected, and TF reviewed it in the way you would have wanted?

I could have written Empire's review for them a week ago. There's been a vibe in their coverage since the announcement of the split that, without them outright saying it, suggested they weren't into it.

It's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part. 1 all over again. You could nearly copy and paste the reviews. But listen; the film is comfortably fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and it'll all come together nicely once folks have seen Part. 2. That movie (if I'm right about where the split is) will be wall-to-wall action and drama.

I got that feeling from what you were saying earlier on

So we get more Effie, and that dam scene is new (good to know). so they at least made the effort to get a little more action in there

Well, many of the reviews have been quick to note, with not a little praise, that the film takes advantage of the room afforded it, without ever feeling padded out. That sounds like they're doing this right to me.
