Synopses

X-Men: First Class (2011)

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save our future.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Set largely in the 1980’s, X-Men: Apocalypse will introduce one of the very first mutants, En Sabah Nur ('The First One') a.k.a. Apocalypse and, according to director Bryan Singer, focus on the very origins of mutation itself. It will also borrow from the comic serial Age of Apocalypse and promises to introduce teenage versions of the original X-Men (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm) and operate on the scope and scale of a disaster movie. In the words of writer Simon Kinberg: An ‘extinction level event’.

X-Men: Apocalypse is due in cinemas May 22nd 2016.

I love that title and how she said it in the movie.

But a post of mine from the other thread.

Now we just gotta wonder how much screen time they will have. I mean will they be taking over the franchise from the First Class or what? I would hope not. I wanna see the First Class cast in more films.

I think we had this title before (though I could be wrong), not that it matters. It's a good one at any rate.

I suspect they'll all be playing 16/17 regardless of their actual ages. Tye does certainly seem to have grown since MUD, but anyone familiar with the comics will tell you that Scott Summers is supposed to be a scrawny teenager.

I'm not sure about the veracity of the Magnet/Mystique thing, but otherwise yes, Apocalypse is about the First Class cast.

That's a key factor.
If they're not, I can see Fox just leaving that notion and going ahead with superhero title franchises with Mystique, Magneto, Prof X, Gambit, whose characters are already popular/ known to the franchise.
While their roles will be limited in Apocalypse, you're right, it is very much the intent to shift focus onto them going forward. This is what the First Class movies have been moving towards since the start. These are the X-Men.

That said, as long as Bryan Singer's involved, the X-Men movies will always return to the Xavier/Magneto divide. So expect to see McAvoy and Fassbender for the foreseeable. Subject obviously, to the actor's continued interest. You can count on Hoult's continued presence as well. Beast is a big part of the X-Men, and will be a team member I suspect once the team is formed in earnest.

Where Jennifer might fit in is a little more difficult to discern. Mystique has no allegiance to the X-Men, or to the Brotherhood any longer, so figuring out a role for her is tricky going forward. It's possible then, that her story will continue in solo pictures, with maybe a reduced presence in the main flicks until she intersects more fully with the X-Men again. This would obviously, be dependent on Jennifer as much as anything else.

I like this cast BTW. I don't know much about the actress playing Storm, but the other two have impressed me, particularly Sophie in 'Thrones. This is good news.

Yeah it's very much official, according to the news that The Apocalypse will feature Mystique and Magneto relationship building, based on the star power of Jennifer, and Michael being critically acclaimed. This will be part of the movie, besides fighting against the Apocalypse.

I don't know much about those actors they picked for Scott, Storm and Jean. I have no problem with them. All I'm saying is them heading up the next X-Men depends on whether they gain a mainstream audience and they become the talk of the media. If not, I see Fox going forward with standalone/superhero movies for the actors/characters already esteemed, as Mystique, Magneto, Professor, then you have Channing Tatum for Gambit and Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool.

I don't think it would be an issue, since they're interested in competing with the likes of Captain America, Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman.

Well, it's actually still very much rumour at this stage. That said, a focus on the relationship between Mystique and Magneto would make sense after DoFP's focus on her relationship to Charles. I don't expect it to be a romance though. While there has always been a sexual frisson between the characters, even when they were being played by McKellen and Romijn, one that I would expect will be continued and even deepened, I don't believe that what we're going to be getting is romantic

Of course, I could be wrong. It has been known to happen.

While they don't need to become the talk of the media necessarily, it is certainly true that there's a need for them to grab the interest of audiences. But then that's true of every potential franchise. If Tye, Sophie, and Alex fail to capture audience attention things could get difficult for Fox, you're right there. Those standalone flicks are going to happen regardless, but if our new X-Men 'fail' Fox might, as you suggest, shift the focus of the franchise while they regroup.

This is a good cast though, so I don't expect there to be an issue. I don't know much about Alexandra, but Tye has impressed me a few times (particularly in MUD), and Sophie is beyond perfect casting for Jean Grey TBH. If Apocalypse manages to be as good or better than Days' then there won't be any problem. I'm feelin' good about this...

Yeah, I'm sure they will be banking on their star power and they are doing almost everything that they can to sign those two back for more pictures I'm sure.
