Thanks.

Well, the trailers for The Battle of the Sexes and The Glass Castle are out.

Now its your move Paramount and Daregg.

Yes. It is.

Ignoring your continued, and increasingly lame, passive aggressive digs at Aronofsky , the suggestion that the release of two trailers warrants a response, or 'move', from Paramount doesn't really parse.

Might these movies end up in a race with each other? Sure. But it's way too early to start running. It won't result in any head-starts.

For the record, Battle of the Sexes looks good to me, The Glass Castle looks kinda bland. But in any event, I suspect both will ultimately look more like Oscar pictures than Aronofsky's latest seems likely to. Indeed, the greatest trick Aronofsky ever pulled was convincing Oscar that Black Swan wasn't a horror movie. Not saying he can't do that again with mother! but fooling people twice with the same trick is harder.

That said, the Academy now recognizes Aronofsky as an awards director, which should get the movie in the running easily enough if the reviews are strong. I struggle to imagine it as a REAL contender though.

All the same, positive reviews will put Lawrence in the frame, even if the movie's too esoteric, dark, or challenging to really get the Academy's vote.

and I've only seen The Wrestler of his, so I couldn't offer an opinion other than I liked that one.

I, for the record, have seen all his movies (more than once), and am a huge admirer. For my money he is a true cinematic auteur. Something which is rare as hen's teeth these days.

Aronofsky is in fact, the director I most wanted to see Lawrence work with. On that basis - while of course I'm hoping it's very successful for all involved - I'm interested mostly in where it fits within Aronofsky's filmography, how it develops the themes inherent in his work, and what new themes or ideas it might introduce. This one's for me essentially. Critics, box office, awards; I'll take note of such things, but that isn't my focus. I just care that I'm getting a new Darren Aronofsky flick, and Jennifer Lawrence is in it.

I've seen Requiem For a Dream. Likely one of the most depressing movies I ever seen. Makes you want to take a shower after.

I saw The Wrestler mainly cause I was a fan of Wrestling.

I've seen Black Swan also.

I have DVDs of Pi and The Fountain. I haven't seen Noah and likely never will. I had the blu ray, but I gave it away. He produced The Fighter, which he was originally going to direct. I own Jackie on Blu ray, another film he produced. But have yet to watch still.

if mother! underperforms she'll catch more of the flak/blame for it than him.

Nah.

Critics, and even pundits, are likely to give her props just for taking a chance on something unconventional and idiosyncratic (which mother! seems set to be). Plus, choosing to work with an acclaimed director, regardless of how it turns out, is unlikely to garner her any real criticism, particularly if her performance is as strong as some first hand accounts have been suggesting.

Bottom line: If Lawrence is seen to be pushing herself, she'll get a pat on the back. No one will judge her for choosing to work with Aronofsky, regardless of how it turns out.

If it is the case the movie's not accepted critically, it's Aronofsky who'll catch the flak for it. Nobody blamed Russell Crowe for the divisive response to Noah, and Hugh Jackman's performance in The Fountain has been routinely praised as perhaps his best since the film's release, despite the initial critical excoriating the movie suffered.

I'd be more concerned about Red Sparrow, to be honest. It seem's she's taking some risks there too, which critics will be inclined to look positively on. but if that one fails it will be all on her, and there'll be nothing to mitigate the fallout.

Both failing will be bad news, but mother! can afford to be divisive if Red Sparrow is successful. Red Sparrow on the other hand, if it's not up to snuff, won't really be saved by mother!. Though any criticism of Lawrence might be slightly blunted in that event. Slightly.

Cross your fingers...

Oh, so I guess you didn't see the video of Grace Randolph talking more trash about Jen. and talking about the rise and fall of her career while talking about mother! and Red Sparrow.

People are wondering after Passengers, X-Men and Joy.

Grace Randolph's a damn troll, and her dunder-headed, ill-informed opinions have no impact inside the entertainment industry.

Internet posters might be 'wondering' after those three movies you mention, but all the industry sees is Jennifer Lawrence opening and earning on three movie that didn't get great critical receptions.

Pundits and commentators on the other hand (proper industry types that is), are starting to ask questions about her willingness to challenge herself, and push the envelope on her talent. mother! should put an end to those questions before they find too much oxygen, and with Red Sparrow being described as her 'taking risks' that could provide a one/two hit to put the whole thing to bed.

If neither movie works though, she'll still get props for trying new things, and pushing herself, but there will be question marks regarding her judgement. At least where Sparrow is concerned.

Suggesting her career is failing though, or is even close to it, is beyond nonsense.
