I'm still not sure if that's genius or cheap, if I love it or hate it. Her explanation and reasons of doing the photoshoot, that is.

I think it's the way it is in Hollywood.

She wants to get the role in Winters Bone, but they think she's too pretty.
So she walks a mile in a sleet storm before auditioning.

Then people see her in Winters Bone, she wins an Oscar nod, but the parts dry up.
She's not thought of as sexy enough for some roles now. So here comes the Esquire shoot.

Not saying she had to do it, but I get it.

I certainly know it's how it works in Hollywood. I meant more like I don't know if I respect her for exploiting it or not. When it involves getting your clothes off.

But I don't let that bother me much.

I think she might be slightly misrepresenting herself in that quote. I do not believe she would have done the shoot if she hadn't been comfortable with it. If it hadn't been something she wanted (for want of a better word) to do.

Jennifer is very self possessed. She seems to know her own mind. Any of the behind the scenes footage of that shoot shows her having a good time. It really looks like she's having a lot of fun. There are other quotes referring to that shoot where she expresses excitement at the prospect of being thought of as sexy ("...just not ****ty." ).

I'm certain she enjoyed the shoot, and likes the pictures. Why wouldn't she, she looks stunning. The quote is defensive. It's a response to the "Why would you do this" contingent, that seem to think there's something wrong with an actress (particularly one as naturally talented as Jennifer) posing for a shoot like this. There isn't. There isn't anything wrong with anyone posing in any stage of dress, and I wish the world would stop behaving like there is.


I think it's a; "Hey, I'm not embarrassed by this. There's nothing wrong with it. And besides it was necessary in order to show that I could be sexy."


Jennifer wasn't exploited, nor was she herself being particularly exploitative. Yes, there was a certain level of pragmatism to doing the shoot, but that's true of every photo shoot that an actor does. They're always either selling a movie, or selling themselves. That's the game they're in

Again, I'm certain Jennifer wouldn't do anything she wasn't comfortable with. She should be proud and pleased with that shoot. I'm certain that she is!
