mother! has now made $14.3million in the USA and just over $13million overseas in 19 countries playing it, including Italy, UK, and France, where the premieres were. the film will make back it's budget, but no one knows how much they spent to promote and market it, so i have no idea there.

i found out why it's not doing well overseas, which is a rarity, especially for arthouse films such as mother! i thought that since i didn't know the house sounds were Jen's distorted voice, i would try one of those livestream cam copies on the net, find out where the distorted voice sounds are in the film since i can't recall them from my two viewings, and pinpoint them so i can listen for them when i go to see it the third time.

well, i was in for a surprise, considering pretty much every new film is on the net lickety-split after it's released. there is only ONE version available, a BEYOND HORRIBLE russian cam-copy IN RUSSIAN [no english subtitles] and it is thoroughly unwatchable, dark, grainy, and the russian dub voiceovers are so loud you can't
possibly hear any sounds of the house, the background, nothing....SOUNDS ARE EVERYTHING IN THIS MOVIE, since there is no soundtrack and you are always in the pov of Grace and seeing/hearing what she is. no wonder it's not doing well, as Graces's voice is soft and timid for a good portion of the film, the others more harsher and ultimately annoying/hostile/violent as the film goes on. so unless you have excellent voiceovers, you miss the nuances of Grace's timid persona as Mother Earth, and the others as more harsher voices and inflections, than slowly but surely drown out the tranquility and peace of the house. you need Grace's tones and softness, as voiced by Jen, in a film like this.

oh well, it was worth a try but that tells you how badly the film is perceived or doing boxofficewise, when even the cam-rippers won't touch it for livestream sites. yikes. i usually don't go anywhere near these varmits since i much prefer the sight and sounds of the dolby-digital theater experience, but i tried it for a little research on the Jen's voice-sounds, and nope, soundly rejected lolz.

i'm going back to the cineplex for a third serving of mother!'s wrath.
