I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were calling Cumberbatch himself disgusting either, just that we're only talking about an awards campaign. There's a tendency (among everybody) to take these thing way too seriously. Yes, it can have an enormous effect on someone's career and how they're perceived, but it's not the only way to have a long and prosperous life in the entertainment industry. People campaign for many reasons, usually out of a sense of obligation (to the studio, the producers, their director etc...). Would they like to win? I'm sure they would. But few would engage in such aggressive campaigns only for personal glory. If nothing else, it would just look desperate. I've always looked on Oscar campaigns as little more than extended promo for a movie. If there's an award at the end, and I think it's deserved, then lovely. Otherwise, we move on...
