You need to buy multiple copies to make up for that.

so i've seen several posts and comments on two other sites and on twitter, where it is said that director Francis Lawrence ranges from a perv to an exploitative director who takes advantage of his star, Jen Lawrence, in the Red Sparrow film. i disagree with all those posters for quite good reasons. let's review, shall we?
first off, there is quite a bit of graphic nudity, sexual situations, demeaning manipulative psychosexual situations, torture in the nude, rape, sexual violence, and bondage of sorts, in the book source material. Francis did not write the screenplay, people, but he did say in the 50 minute podcast, that he and Jen discussed the nudity and graphic sexual violence at length, and both came up with solutions that both the director and star were amenable to, in getting across the context of where Dominika was, her motivations, her strength, and what it took for her to persevere against the odds of the sadistic school and mission. Francis and his DP were very careful in what was seen onscreen, that it was not overly graphic, not titillating to the normally minded viewer, and was contextually appropriate to the narrative. i did not see anything in the film, that seemed exploitative of Jen/Dominika, as i understood where the character was coming from, and what the actress was conveying. i thought the scenes were as tasteful as could be, given the subject matter, and well acted. secondly, i thought director Francis kept the story very much on Dominka, as the books tend to be all over the place at times, with a lot of exposition that has very little to do with the struggles and journey of the primary protagonist, Dominoka Egorova. Francis puts Dominika front and center, for pretty much the entire film, empowers her, and gives her choices not readily clear in the first book. also, he says in the podcast, that the writers allowed him and Jen to change certain aspects of her angry backstory from the book, to make Dominika seem just enough more sympathetic, as to sway viewers away from her initial violence on the ballet couple who caused her injury, and not judge her too harshly from that outburst of violent behavior. Francis was quite instrumental in making Katniss a much more sympathetic character in the Hunger Games films, as she is much more damaged, distant, and at times, not very likeable, in the three books. i don't understand how some of these fans/viewers can say these comments about Francis Lawrence, when he definitely put Jen front and center, in both THG and RS, brought those characters to the silver screen, larger than life in both sets of source material, and given Jen plenty of space to grow into these characters. i sure hope they work together again sometime, third times's the charm, they say. just my two cents worth. go Jen and Francis! __________________
