Passengers finally reached the $100 Million mark for domestic gross, actually now at a half mil over $100 Million, and just over $200 Million world-wide, making a grand total in the early $300 Million range. yippee. now where's my Extended Director's Cut?

Good for Passengers! So how many of Jen's films have gone past 100 million domestic?
All the Hunger Games, all X-men, SLP, AH, and Joy? |

Oh that's great, they just have to keep every film open for almost 4 months.

Four months is not that extraordinary.
But regardless of that, it's a movie that received none (zero) critical support (quite the opposite in fact), and it just crossed the $100 million mark domestically. It wouldn't have gotten close to that either, had it been in theatres for SIX months, without the star power of its lead actors. Particularly its leading lady. What Jennifer needs now, is a movie that critics really get behind. She's got nothing to prove in box office terms anymore, but a certifiable hit is needed to seal the deal. __________________

It is pretty special that Jen's star power impacted the box office so much.

People can crap all over the time they want. But if she were not in it. I don't think it would have made half of hat it did.
Movie critics just need to go away. Pushing their opinions and agendas on others as facts. __________________

Alright. Most contracts for film rental start at seven days and can go up to four weeks. After the contractual number of weeks plays out, then it plays until something comes along to replace it. Strictly speaking. Typically movies will only hold onto their initial screens for a couple of weeks, maybe the first month. After that it starts shedding them rapidly. With the proliferation of multi-plexes though, 'play-somethin'-until-you-have-reason-not-to' is not an uncommon policy. So movies can end up running for a few months past their initial release in some theaters. Studios however, operate on an examination of box office data. So if they think a particular film is going to keep earning for them, they'll do what it can to keep the run going. For Passengers, that meant expanding the number of screens to try and boost the earning late in the run. Which worked a treat. Bottom Line: A dud will run for two weeks tops, anything else can run up to 12 weeks, depending on how much interest the studio has in keeping it going. __________________
