Will be a shame for this board to close but I think time has come. Posting here has never taken off as with other boards and the long hiatus absolutely does not help. This was the first board I was posting regularly on and the first and only board I've ever modded. Thanks for your hard work, Lindsay!

Well as a regular dedicated poster I'm really sorry to hear this, but as I'm in the minority I don't suppose I have a voice anyway, I'll miss our chats about what the cast are up to Lindsay, thanks for your hard work sweetie. xxx

But on a happy note, the Downton cast were visited by a VIP fan of the show today.......

I recently found this place, have enjoyed conversing about DA and other related movies, etc.
I'd hate for the DA thread to close before the conclusion of series 6.

It's fascinating to see what different commenters take away from DA--this thread gives me the opportunity to see DA from other's viewpoints.

Since I just found this place I am all for keeping it open until the curtain closes on DA. It's a vigil; I'll sit here and light my candle.
Aww bless, I'll miss it too Aggie, and light a candle with you, this might cheer you up though.....

I did hope the forum might stay open until the curtain comes down on the Show, possibly at the end of the year, but sadly not to be.

I just want to remind you all that after the board has been closed the discussion can continue on the Television board. Either there's an old thread for DA which can be reopened by the moderator or if not then a new thread can be started. So the Spoiler board and thread is not the only option.

Actually this was the most depressing thing today. To see that they had the whole cast there (Maggie Smith was officially excused, because she was ill), but no Allen and Fifi, brought it home for me, that Allen is not part of the main cast of Downton any more.

And to know that Allen wanted to stay, but that Julian Fellows wrote him out anyway? It makes me so mad! And to hear Gareth Neame say "the viewers enjoy fresh faces as long as the core cast stays". How can he be so smug about it? Tom was core cast for me. He was the only reason I watched!

So actually I'm happy this board is closed. I'm happy to have one less reminder of the big disappointment this show turned out to be for me.

Sorry, but that's how it is for me right now.

I am so sorry to read this thread.
I would have helped posting on this board but they wouldn't have been genuine posts because I haven't followed the show, just watched bits and pieces.

Thank you for pointing this out. You are all obviously welcome to come on over to the Television board I hope that this will bring a little comfort to you at least after the board is closed. There isn't a old Downton Abbey thread on the board, I will be happy to see someone create one

It's the one thread where I post regularly, too during the hiatus. What else is there to talk about between seasons?
I suppose if you're interested in the actors outside of Downton, and what they're doing in the interim then there's more to talk about, which I have been, I'll miss that as much as talking about the show.

It's a shame more people didn't post in the other threads, but there it is.

I'm sorry I found this board rather late, but hen I also discovered DA very late... I'll be checking into the Television board and hope to see other posters as well.

I'm also happy I found some helpful recs of interesting British shows here. Btw., will this forum be archived for reading? Otherwise, I have to look for some of these hints and save the info...

Thank you Lindsay for your work.

Aw Lindsay I know you've been going back and forth on this and I completely understand your decision. I've enjoyed posting here whenever I can, it sucks other things prevented me from stopping by more. You've done a phenomenal job modding this board and I'm glad that the board will go by choice and not by force. So goodbye to this board

I'm sad to see that this board is going to close but I understand. Thank-you for all of your efforts Lindsay. This board wouldn't have existed for as long as it has without your phenomenal efforts to keep it going. Thanks again!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It was tough for me last year during the hiatus prior to S5 as there were only a few posters and I needed posters the most during the hiatus as traffic wasn't a problem when the show is on-air in the UK. I'm very proud of this board, we were never in the Low Post Count warning list inspite of our dwindling post counts. Granted that was mostly me bumping the threads but there are some posters here who have tried and helped the board afloat over the past years. But I've been busier with RL and with more duties & responsibilities here on FF and I needed a co-mod for this board. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone qualified since Scarlet stepped down and just imagining what this year's hiatus will bring is putting a strain on me so I decided to open this thread.

Thank you Scarlet for the fun times we've had here moderating this board 3 years ago. You were an awesome and patient co-mod.

Carrie, don't feel that your opinion doesn't matter because it does. In fact you are one of the few ones here that try and post every other day and branch out to other threads. It helped the post count a lot and I'm happy that you care about this show very much as I do. Thanks for posting that link with Kate's visit on-set. I was thrilled when I saw that and almost died at all the adorablenss. Definitely made my day.

Ray, I know I say this a lot but your efforts on this board was very much appreciated because it helped with the board's overall post count the past few months. Even if I don't ask you to stop by, you still do and that really helped me get through the weeks where I needed posts for the board. Thank you very much.

Thank you Vicki & Laura for suggesting to open a thread on the Television board. Tbh, I didn't want to open one yesterday but the posts here changed my mind and I am overwhelmed (crying actually) at how much everyone had enjoyed posting here in spite of how the show has been lately. It means a lot to me.

And due to insistent and popular (?) demand, I opened a Downton Abbey thread on the Television board here: http://www.fanforum.com/f40/downton-...iour-63144451/

Feel free to join me there and talk about S6. That thread will be spoiler-free so post your spoilers on the Spoilers board.

^ Aww sweetie, dont cry Yes, be proud that you were never in the low post count list.
This board has done fantastic considering it's a UK show
Think of all the good memories you've had here You can only do so much work on here and I think any more work then you would put immense strain on yourself and nobody wants to see that here because we care about you .
I think you're doing the right thing for yourself and for the board.

It was my pleasure And also as I've said many times, I stopped by in part to help with the count but also because I really loved posting here and it was fun posting with you and the others on the various threads, you definitely made this a very welcoming and fun place to be

Thanks for those lovely words Lindsay, and it's true I do like finding out what the actors are doing outside of Downton, especially since they're branching out into such varied and interesting work.

Kate visiting the set made my day too, glad it did yours as well, and big hug for all your hard work on here sweetie. I'm glad we'll still be able to chat about all things Downton.
