You are so right that Mrs. Hughes doesn't swoon over the Crawleys like Carson and she says it like it is. :) |

I wonder if Mrs. Hughes makes friends with the housekeepers of other Great Houses in the neighbourhood, like Sir Anthony's housekeeper?
|
LOVE this scene between Mrs. Hughes & Bates. Especially how she was hell bent on finding out what's wrong with him.

Welcome to the thread, Margaret!
Re-watching 1x04 yesterday, I really did enjoy that episode for Mrs. Hughes. She & Joe! What could've been for her if she wasn't at Downton. :sigh: The possibilities... |
Thanks girls
Aww that episode was precious :sigh: I felt bad for her though... |
Why do you feel bad for her, because she didn't join Joe? She had a choice of staying or going and she chose to stay. She loves working at Downton and not even Joe can change her mind. That really speaks highly about how loyal she is to her job and to the Crawleys.
|
Very true! I just felt bad that she couldn't have both :P
|
Oh of course me too. She did feel conflicted. I think at one point she wanted to join him but she said so herself, she's not that farm girl anymore. :sigh:
|
Nope :sigh: Her heart lies with Downton.
|
True. Whatever she experienced or is experiencing in Downton is enough to make her stay. I certainly can't imagine Downton without Mrs. Hughes.
