Guilty [1x03] Episode Discussion (March 15, 2012)

Detective Michael Britten’s (Jason Isaacs) two worlds spin out of control when his son Rex (Dylan Minnette) is kidnapped by an escaped convict, Cooper (Clifton Powell), a man Britten arrested 10-years ago. In his other reality, Hannah (Laura Allen) is upset that Britten cannot attend an event honoring their deceased son because he is tracking down a missing teenage boy. Clues from both worlds lead to a confrontation that calls Britten’s sanity into questioned. BD Wong, Cherry Jones, Steve Harris and Wilmer Valderrama also star.

I'm especially interested to see the parallels between the realities this episode.

Just watched the episode. Intense stuff.

I liked the moment where Michael listens to Rex's recording in the end. Made me tear up. Also loved Hannah's speech in the event.

There is something that I didn't understand in this episode. I get why the criminal sent message to Tara's phone. He knew that they would tap Michael's phone. The question is how he knew who Tara was and what's her home number?

Now, I liked how both cases basically lead to putting in jail the real killer. What I didn't buy was the whole story about the money and how the guy just felt it. It's true that I genetically see conspiracies everywhere in such shows , but it makes me wonder if he was alone in this scheme or there was something more. It was clear that the captain send them so that they can kill the prisoner before he tells Michael the truth.

I also wonder if there will be some sparks between Tara and Michael. That would be interesting in a weird way, because in one of the realities he's still married. That would make him feeling guilty of betraying Hannah.

And I really liked the recording of Rex and what he told to his father. I think that they show very realistically how a kid his age would feel. There always will be the question - who should have died and who should have survived. In fact Michael deals with the same; he can't choose who wants to let go - his son or his wife.

What I think that it's not realistic is how teen Rex would help teen girl to not commit suicide. I think that this is really serious and I'm not sure that it's normal to let another kid to deal with it. So far the series tries to portray Rex as very sensitive, mature young adult with some extraordinary abilities. When that guy found time to fix a motor, be part of youth center, study and hang out with friends. And in the new reality he also plays tennis. I think that they should tone out a bit.

It's possible that Tara could possibly be involved in somthing related to them, just not explored in this particular episode. She could possibly be an accomplice or something (we'll never know).

I think it's realistic if the girl gets support both from peers and adults. An adult can help understand the situation, and the peer can help by communicating on an equal level.

Great episode! I can definitely see something happening between Tara & Michael -- it would be interesting to see how that would play out in both "realities."

Awake has been quite consistent so far. Maybe the rewrites were indeed worth it.

Maybe he asked Rex? I suppose Rex would know, I'm not sure.

I do agree that he's doing quite a lot and it's somewhat unrealistic but it's not that out there that he was able to help the girl, lots of teens volunteer at crisis hotlines, and the people who call them are obviously looking for help so it's not so unrealistic really

I watched the episode (finally ) and the recording definitely made me tear up though I felt that as a whole it wasn't as great as episode 1 & 2
