Yes it really seems so, but he also seems to be like a one woman loving type. Like he can't let go of somebody even if it looks like it will never happen.

I think he could if he wanted to.
Like for example. After he thought Katherine was in the tomb, he turned off his humanity so he never allowed himself to fall for someone until he saw a look alike in Elena, and he let his guard done.

With Bonnie, their friendship built great because they were trapped together for months where they only could depend on each other so of course your guards will eventually go down.

So I feel Damon's guard is always up so he can never really fall in love with other people.

I can agree with your interpretation, that really makes sense and if the writers would want it then Damon could fall in love with another girl.

Yup. I think the brief storyline with Rose during Season 2 showed what can happen if the writers actually cared.

That is very true. I really liked that relationship with her ... it would be great to see Damon again romantically care about somebody like this.

I guess I am at least grateful the writers have shown him care for Bonnie as much as he does now.
