I'm pretty sure they do need Bennett blood, otherwise Kai would have gotten out with his own magic.

Yeah, the fact that the synopsis for 6x21 mentions Bonnie dreaming of Lily coming after her, makes me think they will need Bennett blood to go back to 1903 or in order to get Kai and the witch/vamps to Mystic Falls. Which we just know is going to happen. So no matter how much the gang tries to prevent, they will somehow escape just in time for the wedding lol
