What happened to Teo? Will we ever meet Jackson? And other idiosyncrasies of Switched at Birth.
Hey everyone.
I figured this could be a thread to talk about characters that were mentioned, but have to this day never been seen, or ones that just left, or any other oddities you want to discuss. Enjoy! |

I'm still curious about Noah, too. I mean, I know that he went back to Canada and Daphne said she barely even texted him over the summer, but STILL. Has anyone been in touch with him this school year? I guess people do disappear from your life sometimes, never to be heard from again. But it would be nice if we got a mention of Noah in a future season. Jackson is my ABSOLUTE favorite. I want to hear lots more about him on the show. He is such a man of mystery! I also wonder what is happening with Sharee's mom. I feel certain the writers will shed light on that during Season 3B. I wouldn't mind seeing Olivia again at some point. It would be interesting if she ran into Bay and Emmett, if they are a couple again when Season 3B returns. And I wish someone would let us know how Jace if fairing. What happened to Chip Coto's senate seat? Did he lose it? Jorge's sister mentioned him, and I do not remember what she said. It would be nice to discover if Chef Jeff married Carrie Raisler (or if she dumped him--my theory). And I wonder if the Sarah Lazar mystery will ever truly be solved, or if it will just continue without resolution. What are some other Switched at Birth mysteries? Which mysteries do we most want to see solved? |

I don't know if this is considered mystery, but sometimes I want a clearer timeline of the show. I would love to know their birthdays so I can figure out character traits a bit more.
It's my own personal headcanon that the prom episode occurred (in the show's timeline) towards May/June even though the episode aired in March. I I know, it's a dumb nitpick, but it helps to figure out when Emmett's birthday is in relation that. Maybe I think about these things too much But sometimes the unclear passage of time annoys me. And we never seem to get actual confirmation since LW has stated a few times they like to have a mushy timeline. It's clearly to drive me crazy! |

Emmett's timeline made things clearer for me, though. At least there are a few dates that we can somewhat "hang our hat" on. It was June 2011, when Emmett and Bay first meet in the pilot episode. Emmett pulls up on his motorcycle, as the Vasquez family is moving into the Kennish guest house, and Daphne tells Emmett that Bay is "Me, in another life." At that point, the two girls are still 15, because they have not yet celebrated their 16th birthday, still 4 months away. Emmett is obviously 16 already, by the point that June "first meet" date rolls around, because Regina tells Kathryn in the next episode that you "just have to be 16" to drive a motorcycle. Later in that same episode, Regina also tells Kathryn that when Emmett first started driving his motorcycle, she was nervous about Daphne riding it, too. Regina: I wanted to tell you something. I resisted letting her get on that thing for months too, but she begged me. And, well, finally, they're just such good kids. And I still secretly followed them for a week. He's a really good driver, I swear. The funny thing is for years I wished that there was someone around to bounce this stuff off of. And now there is.To me, Regina's speech to Kathryn means that Emmett must have been riding his motorcycle for a few months before he pulled up to the Kennish driveway in June to whisk Daphne away. So a March 13th birthday makes sense for Emmett, as it is the date when the Dawn of the Deaf birthday party episode aired. Also, some of my Facebook friends posted pictures of their teenagers going to prom this year, and in central Virginia, prom is still held the first weekend or two in April. That's when it was back when I was a teen, too. So maybe it is the same (early April) in KC, too? A March 13th birthday would make Emmett a Pisces. That's how I see him. Here's a description from my favorite expert on astrology, Linda Goodman. She wrote her book Sun Signs in the 1960s, and her writing is about as far from politically correct as it can be. But I grew up with her book by my bedside table, and her description of the Aries woman fits me so completely, that I always believed her other descriptions must be accurate, too. Here's how Linda Goodman described the Pisces Man: Quote:

I think the problem for me is based on what I'm used to. Emmett's timeline says they met in June, but there was six weeks between the blood test and after, and yet they are still in school. So, was there no summer break? Unless KC has a short summer break. I just know I am used to longer than six weeks.
And proms here are later. I guess there could have been a big time jump between 1x21 and 1x22. Ugh. It bugs. Even if their prom was April, that's too early to let out for summer vacation, isn't it? I'm not buying that with how small Buckner was Simone and Bay never crossed paths (considering they seemed to cross paths a few times in 1B and 1C even when Bay was trying to avoid Simone) if there were weeks left of school and since Bay didn't tell John and Kathryn about what happened, it wasn't like she stayed home the rest of the school year. But 1x23 makes it seem like it was the first time they had seen each other since Bay found out what happened. Maybe I'll just rewrite it in my head that there were at least a few weeks between 1x21 and 1x22. I'm going to do that. There, nobody tell me I'm wrong. That's my new headcanon. This way Emmett's birthday can be in March and I'm satisfied with them having a prom later in the year that coincides with the ending of school. |

my high school proms were always late april/early may and i'd rather go with a few weeks of school left after 1x22. that way emmett isn't lying to her as long. |

So within that first pilot episode, the first few scenes are occurring in March or April 2011, and then, by the end of that pilot episode, the Vasquez family is moving into the Kennish guest house and it is June 2011. The teens are probably about to get out of school for summer vacation. (The time jump within the episode makes total sense, because the words "six weeks later" appear on the screen.) Then, it is probably still June in episode 2, because the teens are still in school and it appears to be soon after the Vasquez family has moved into the guest house (possibly the day after, given the dialogue). But somewhere along the way, ten weeks of summer vacation must pass without us seeing them pass, because Emmett kisses Bay in episode 7, and it is September. I'm going to go with LW's mushy timeline and just imagine the 10-week jump occurred somewhere in between two episodes. Bay joined an educational program in the Galapagos. We have an educational student exchange program at our schools, and some of our students spend the last nine weeks of the school year in Europe and stay for the summer. Perhaps that is what Bay did? Could she have started the program sooner than we realized? I like that, because then she never had to run into Simone. If the prom really was right after Emmett's birthday, maybe Bay spent the last nine weeks of the school year in the Galapagos, and then, she stayed for the summer. |

I don't know.
I'm getting cranky thinking about it. Ignore me, please. I don't know why it's not fitting in my mind and I'm getting annoyed with it. So I'm not going to think about it anymore. I mean, others can, but it's just not working out for me. Anyway.... |

Since I seem to be the Queen of the Quotes in my posts today, I will add what might be my favorite quote of all-time here. It is definitely in my Top 5, for the truth it speaks to my heart: "When I was alive, I believed — as you do — that time was at least as real and solid as myself, and probably more so. I said 'one o'clock' as though I could see it, and 'Monday' as though I could find it on the map; and I let myself be hurried along from minute to minute, day to day, year to year, as though I were actually moving from one place to another. Like everyone else, I lived in a house bricked up with seconds and minutes, weekends and New Year's Days, and I never went outside until I died, because there was no other door. Now I know that I could have walked through the walls. (...) You can strike your own time, and start the count anywhere. When you understand that — then any time at all will be the right time for you.” |

it doesn't work for me and never has. the show doesn't play out like there is a significant jump between any two episodes of 1a.
mushy timeline indeed. almost as bad as the timeline in rosewood. |

The crazy timeline has always driven me nuts. It was hard to pinpoint when things happened when I was writing my fanfic. Eventually I said screw it and just wrote based off of my own timeline.
I always wonder why they went with Noah over Teo. I'm curious if things would have progressed in the same manner with Teo like they did with Noah. Sarah Lazar will be the one loose thread that I'll always want resolved. There's something unfinished there imo. __________________

Both actors have their charm, but I actually find the actor who played Teo to be cuter than the actor who played Noah. And even more important than that, Vanessa Marano has better chemistry with Stephen Lunsford (Teo) than she does with Max Lloyd Jones (Noah), at least she does in my opinion. That one scene between Bay and Teo, where they are walking outside to the volleyball court, and Bay is signing is super cute. Teo: "Can we just talk?" Bay: "But signing IS talking." Teo: "You know what I mean." Bay: "Okay, fine." Teo: "It is so weird being the outsider. I mean, especially for me, being a white boy. I mean, I have absolutely no outsider status." Bay: "Well, it's good for you." Teo: "Oh, absolutely." Bay: "But have you noticed how we're sort of persona non grata? Or personae non grata? Or whatever. It means they don't really dig us being here." Teo: "I guess they just don't want us around. But whatever, you know? We'll just stay out of their way. Passive resistance." Bay: "Mm, that's very zen of you." Then, later, during the volleyball game: Bay: "Passive resistance, huh?" Teo: "Might wanna try the active kind." They were cute together! I wish Bay had a guy friend like that. |
