I do think it's sweet that Toby is now a father and hopefully we'll see him grow up a lot more with Carlton. I do think Lily and Toby will grow closer together because of their son.

I could even deal with the rebound aspect of their relationship (after the Nikki fiasco), if Lily had just once acted as though Toby is someone she loves.

She treated him like a friend at times, but I never had a sense of them being in love.

Right, I was liking Toby and Lily when they first hooked up. But then the writers turned their relationship into a bunch of nagging and whining and disrespect on both sides.

I stopped liking Toby and Lily together the moment they fought at grill night with Toby's parents. And it got worse from there, with Lily falling for some other guy.

Not even a baby was enough to save them as a couple. The writers needed to do something more to show us their sweetness, because I'm not buying it.

I buy that a baby would make him mature, but the writers didn't show us the details of Toby's journey. One minute he was acting like a kid, and the next minute he was taking responsibility. I'd like to have seen more of his internal dialogue and external dialogue about everything that was happening. He told his family that he was scared, and then, the next minute he sucked it up and was Mr. Maturity.

What bothers me the most is that even after Toby began taking responsibility, Lily still treated him poorly. The writers really did not allow fans to romanticize Toby and Lily's relationship, at all.

The writers make it seem as though the only reason those two are together is because of a baby, and that's no fun. Bleh! I want to see two people in love, at least, somewhere on this show.
