I'm going to vote out Episode 24, The Intruder. I do like it. I love the scene where Daphne and Emmett watch the Dawn of the Deaf dvd at the Kennish study. It was just starting to sink in for Emmett what he lost. That whole scene is SO painful, as is the one that follows when Toby pushes Emmett down. Emmett's "I deserved it," breaks my heart and stays with me always. I believe it did Bay, too. Part of me wonders if that is why Emmett didn't fight back as strongly as I know he could have when he and Matthew started going at it. Did Emmett feel, deep down, that he deserved that humiliation? Had he give up? I really hope we see a lot more of Emmett in Season 3B. I have missed him beyond belief. The Intruder was one of the first episodes where I felt the writers really began to wean us all off of a storyline featuring Emmett. It was a long dry spell, with little comfort. I don't ever want to go through a period like that again.

i was debating between 1x24 or 1x27. but i think i'll go with 1x24 as well.

Those were the two I was deciding between, as well.

The Declaration of Independence has that wonderful scene between Emmett and Kathryn, where he knows that she knows. I am not sure if I have ever seen a scene performed to such perfection without words. It is unfathomable to me how Sean Berdy is able to pull that scene off. It may be my favorite moment in the entire series, because I feel a million different emotions conveyed through his eyes. The angst is just...well, to be honest, I don't have words to describe it.

That episode will probably be the one that captures my next vote, but that scene will be a standout to me until the day I die. I will never forget it. I wasn't aware actors could do that much with so little. It was a paradigm shift in my understanding of what it means to perform.

In that moment, it felt as though Sean Berdy was no longer acting, but instead, he was revealing some deep truth about what it means to be human. I get goose bumps. My eyes tear up, even now, just thinking about the depth of what I felt, when watching him in that moment.

That scene between them. They say so much without saying it. It's like Kathryn knows that Emmett's a good kid who made a mistake, but it has to be so so so hard as a mother looking at the kid who broke both of your children's hearts in a way. He definitely broke Bay's, but we saw how upset Toby was, too.

And it comes almost as knife to the heart because Kathryn trusted Emmett, too. She praised him for coming along in Bay's life and now it's as though she was wrong.

And then there's Emmett who feels like crap for knowing that everything Kathryn is feeling, she is justified in feeling.

It's painful.

Yeah, Emmett realizes that not only did he hurt Bay and Toby, but he hurt Kathryn, too. He's sick about it. He really cares for Kathryn. I could tell that when she made him the rosemary garlic chicken. She's special to Emmett. Sometimes, I think he wishes his mom could be more like Kathryn.

Emmett never meant to betray Kathryn like that. I love that scene in Street Noises Invade the House, too, when Emmett's eyes PLEAD with Kathryn to convince John to let him go with him to Mexico.

Sean Berdy's eyes are AMAZING. Those things are like a window into more than the soul. His eyes are like a window into God's world.
