I think some fans are way to harsh on her. I can understand her concern about Emmett because to her he has changed since he has been dating Bay and not in a good way. Please understand this is nothing against their relationship but just seeing it from her perspective. She's love her son and is concerned about his well being. I do think she would like him to date someone who is deaf too, but I also think the above is true. I don't think it's an excuse.

I think that she's good mother since it shows that she doesn't want her son change for anyone, but just being himself plus I love how she was being there for her friend Regina to show how much she cares about her, but hopefully that we can see some more of her...

I believe Melody is worried about Emmett's exposure to the "hearing world" and wants to control just how much of it is allowed in his life because she really believes he will get hurt. She is distrustful of hearing people who don't know "the deaf world"
