My first ever message board was on iVillage back in 2003, so I have been familiar with the term moderator for a while. Also, I have visited other boards, like the DISboard, and know there are moderators there and everywhere.
But how do people become moderators? Is it a volunteer position or paid? Is it a big time commitment? Thanks for any background info! |

Moderators are appointed by the management team. When a position on any board opens up on the forum, the board will be notified with an 'open moderator' thread stuck on the board and all interested posters may apply before the deadline given. It's completely voluntary and a committment because moderators are expected to post at least every other day. They're expected to be regular posters and to lead the board, in discussions and providing a welcoming environment etc.  When a position opens up, the thread will usually provide a link that you can click on to go and read about the whole moderating process, mod responsibilities, and what the management considers when choosing a candidate etc. __________________
