I'm gonna repost what I put on the last thread in case anyone wants to respond.

Well, as we know from Bay’s own mouth she has always loved Emmett, never stopped, and I think at the beginning of the season we see how emotionally dependent Bay is on Emmett. He’s her person, the person she feels the most comfortable with and sometimes it’s amazing that she’s still able to be so vulnerable with him and trust him despite everything that has happened. But a lot of that is because Emmett is trustworthy. He doesn’t judge Bay like a lot of people do and doesn’t try to make her into someone she’s not.

So, at the beginning of 3A, Bay is happy to have Emmett in her life and it seems they are in a good place. Friends. Bay certainly has her flaws, but I think what people gloss over a lot is Bay is probably one of the quickest at rectifying her behavior that might be hurtful. Case in point telling Emmett she can’t keep running to him about guys. Now, she does that again towards the end of the season when the Ty lie is revealed, but I think she feels more comfortable knowing (or thinking) Emmett’s in a relationship with Mandy at this point and that’s why she does it.

Where was I? Ah, yes, Bay is happy to have Emmett in her life. Then the Mandy situation happens and we see Bay is jealous and upset, but is still holding onto the pain and hurt of his cheating, but does make an effort to not bring it up around him anymore. I think episode 4 is a very crucial episode when it comes to these two because it’s out there that Bay wants another chance with Emmett. She hasn’t closed the door on them completely.

Then her accident happens and her hand is compromised and she is struggling with her identity, which is nothing new for Bay. The switch really threw her for a loop (and continues to do so) and as such, she relies heavily on her identity as an artist. But she’s frustrated that she can’t be an artist. So, who is she? This is another important moment because we see Emmett knows instinctively how to cheer Bay up, but not just cheer her up. Inspire her. And he brings her to the Vegas replica and she daydreams of them having a dance.

I think it’s pretty clear Bay’s heart is still with Emmett even before she verbalizes the I love you. She’s dating Tank at this point and yet, doesn’t let him in on her difficult time. She isn’t fantasizing about Tank. Only Emmett.

Then the Ty lie is revealed and Bay goes where, straight to Emmett. Emmett is her true north. They both put up these facades that crumble so easily around each other. It’s beautiful, but it hurts. When Emmett is speaking of not wanting to be the guy who comes after Ty, he’s also speaking of himself. Not just Tank or random guy A, B, C. It’s also incredibly telling that Bay goes back to Tank essentially because of what Emmett said and that she says this in front of Tank. “Emmett said…”

Emmett is such an influence on Bay and their friendship – or even just his presence in her life – grounds her. He’s kind of her anchor. But I think even this late in the season, Bay is not so much in denial about it; it’s more she won’t let herself go there again with Emmett. She is aware of her feelings for him. She loves him. She gets all smiley when he comes up to her and basically says he knows she was the one who messed up Buckner’s statue.

I think it’s important to state that both Bay and Emmett are fiercely protective of each other. She wants to protect him from fake internet girlfriends. She wants to make sure he’s okay with Matthew being back at school. She wants to do nice things for him, like have Mandy’s photograph framed.

When she finds out there’s something fishy about Mandy (pun intended? Haha) her first instinct is to protect him. Even when Emmett basically tells her to stay out of his life and his business, she won’t, because Emmett being upset with her is worth it if she can protect him. In the finale she really goes above and beyond, even having her boyfriend help her. Bay has a lot of chutzpah. That’s for sure.

She finds Emmett at his worst, and this is devastating for Bay. Despite everything they have gone through, the worst imaginable thing for Bay is Emmett being in pain. And maybe she even feels guilty, like Emmett did. Perhaps she thinks if she had forgiven Emmett sooner and gotten back together, Matthew never would have been able to do this. Of course it’s not true. Matthew is responsible for this. Not Bay and not Emmett. But nevertheless, she stumbles upon her Emmett, bruised, broken, humiliated, and is there for him. She’s still scared to give herself to him, but for her, in that moment, it’s about Emmett. It’s what he needs and he needs Bay. He needs her to tell him she still loves him. It doesn’t matter that “Everybody loves” him. It matters only if Bay does. And she does. And she tells him and Bay is able to let go everything that has happened in these past two years and be one with Emmett.

I should also state in between her interactions with Emmett, she is with Tank, but doubting her feelings for him and their relationship. After they almost have sex, Bay confides in Regina that Tank may never be the guy she wants him to be. My own personal feelings (and of course I could be wrong) are that while Emmett may ironically think Bay compares every guy to Ty, she really is comparing every guy to him. Tank will never be who she wants him to be because he won’t be Emmett. Simple enough.

Now, onto Emmett. I think Emmett has resigned himself at the beginning of the season to only being Bay’s friend. He was there to comfort her when Ty “cheated,” and has accepted that Bay has seemingly moved on. We know from the finale – as well as 3x04 – that Emmett is not truly okay with that, but having Bay as a friend is better than no Bay at all.

And in a way, he relishes this role. Maybe he feels it’s atoning for what happened, but he likes being there for Bay. He wants to be her rock.

There are two really important Emmett episodes, 3x04 and 3x11. 3x04 is obviously when Bay and Emmett go to the star party and kiss and 3x11 is the finale. When Bay kisses Emmett, he wants it and her so badly. But he knows Bay is still coming off the heels of her breakup with Ty, and doesn’t want to be reminded of what he did. Nor does he want to be a cheater again with Mandy. But it’s painful. He still wants Bay.

Amy, you and I have talked about how Bay haunts Emmett in a way, and I think that’s true. We see it when he closes his locker and Bay is there. When Bay apologizes and says she won’t bring up what happened with Simone, there’s almost this moment of relief. But I think there’s also sadness. Despite being with someone else, Emmett still holds out hope for him and Bay.

Of course there are other moments in the season, like when he helps re-inspire her. Again, Emmett wants to be that person for Bay. But I think in a way he also is reinforcing how much of a romantic he is. Two people can always find their way back to each other if they really want to. Even if there’s memory loss or whatever, if the love is strong, there will always be that pull.

Then the finale. Emmett is really at his lowest. We haven’t seen him this vulnerable in a while, this raw. The last time I remember seeing him like this was in 1x21 during the scene with Melody where he acknowledges he ruined everything with Bay. He probably isn’t expecting anyone to come for him, least of all Bay who he specifically told to stay out of it. Luckily for him, that isn’t Bay. I won’t lie; Emmett is a romantic, but he also puts up enormous walls and prides himself on being independent and self-sufficient. He loves easily, but he doesn’t always let people all the way in. But here he has nothing left to lose. He puts it all on the table – or the ground rather – that nobody else will make him feel what Bay did. He’ll never have what he had with Bay. Anything else will just be a replica or a poor excuse for one.

I don’t even know what Emmett expects from Bay, but she gives him her heart, her body, her soul. And he’s not asking questions. He has what he has wanted for so long. Emmett’s going to go for it and really bask in the glory of Bay’s embrace. There’s still going to be tomorrow, and it may be a crappy tomorrow, but that doesn’t matter. Nothing else matters.

Okay that was long and I don’t even know if it answered your question, Amy, but I just have a lot of Bay and Emmett feels, okay? Too many feels.

I am a bit sad, for several reasons!

First, I missed all of the discussion last night. And it was a good discussion!

Second, I missed being a part of naming the new thread, and I really wanted to be a part of that. (Although, I would have named it the same thing you all did. I just would have added in the bit at the beginning, too. But we can always use that part for the next thread. In fact, let's blow through this one quickly so we can! I actually want to see us hit "Kindred Spirits #20" soon! Bay and Emmett are that kind of awesome!

But third, and most importantly, the reason that I missed everything was because I was writing the MOST AWESOME reply to Alyssa's post, and I lost it. I started on it the minute Alyssa posted her thoughts. Then, I fell asleep with the laptop on my lap and woke up to add more to it around 11 p.m. Then, I fell asleep again and woke up to add more around 4 a.m. Then, I feel asleep again, and woke up to add more around 7 a.m., and that is when I lost it. My finger hit the wrong button on my laptop and in a split second, poof, it was gone. It was such a long reply and it was so good, too. Boo!

Well, anyway, your post inspired me, Alyssa! Here's a bit of what I was trying to write last night:

Aw, that's beautiful! And now, I have the feels, too! Wow! I agree with everything you wrote, Alyssa.

I think Emmett was reinforcing how much of a romantic he is, too, when he inspires Bay with the 1950s Vegas scene. I wish we could have been privy to some of their time together making the zoetrope. I would love to have seen how they interacted with each other, while they were making art together. And I would have loved to have seen how they told each other goodbye that night. I imagine their eyes said a lot. They always do.

Oh, absolutely! I agree. Right down to the fact that Emmett did the right thing and turned Matthew over to the authorities, but Tank did not do the right thing by pulling the plug on the dogfight, at least not until Bay forced his hand.

None of that stuff escapes Bay. She knows how amazing Emmett is. Bay DOES compare every guy to Emmett, even if Emmett doesn't know that.

I found this conversation between Bay and Tank to be very telling:

Tank: Wait, how can you be upset by an email that you haven't even read?

Bay: What if it says something that I don't want to hear? I'm not gonna lie: Part of me is hoping that he will just say he feels bad for what he did to me.

Tank: Uh-huh.

Bay: And then another part of me is hoping that he'll ask to get back together. But if he says neither of those things, then I'm just gonna feel mad - and sad all over again.

Tank: Uh-huh.

Bay: And then what if he's totally unclear about what he's saying? Then I'm just gonna reread the email over and over again a thousand times until I go crazy.

Tank: Sounds like a lose-lose.

Bay: Exactly! You know, you're the only person that I've told. I tried to tell Emmett, but then got totally sucker-punched when he told me about his new girlfriend Mandy. (This moment marks the first time Emmett isn't there for Bay, at least, from her perception. He would have been there for her, if she had chosen to tell him about Ty's email. But something got in the way of Bay doing that. Mandy's existence immediately became more important to Bay than Ty's email. Bay holds off on sharing the news about Ty's email with Emmett, because Bay becomes more concerned about Mandy's texts.)

Tank: Why should that matter?

Bay: It doesn't. I mean, we've been broken up for a year, so obviously I have no right to feel jealous or possessive.

Tank: Unless you like him.

Bay: Which I don't. (I guess the only way Bay could move on with Noah, and then with Ty, is to convince herself that she doesn't like Emmett in that way, to convince herself that his cheating killed those feelings. But Bay was wrong. She did still like Emmett in that way. I wonder exactly when she admitted that to herself, admitted that she DID still have those kind of feelings for Emmett.)

Tank: Uh-huh.

Bay: I'm just curious.

Tank: Is she hot?

Bay: I don't know. She lives in Seattle. They met online.

Tank: Ha! Wait a minute, online? - No no no, that's not dating.

Bay: No, it's serious. Trust me, I know Emmett.

Tank: Have they met?

Bay: I don't think so.

Tank: She probably has buckteeth and bad breath. Or maybe she's a dude, like what happened to Manti Te'o.

Bay: I don't know who that is, but I doubt it. Emmett's not stupid.

Tank: Look, you don't need to sweat an online girlfriend, okay? Just trust me, she's just pixels on a screen.

Bay: You're right.

What starts out as a discussion about Ty's e-mail, quickly becomes a discussion about Emmett's new girlfriend. Bay seems to need Tank's help to process this new information about Emmett, far more than she needs Tank's help to process the new information about Ty.

She pushes away the Ty dilemma rather quickly, and really doesn't confront it again until the end of the episode, when she deletes his email. Oddly enough, Emmett had advised Bay to move on, without ever knowing that Ty had emailed her. And Bay listens to Emmett's advice, knowing Emmett doesn't have all of the information.

Bay moves on from Ty, but even though she starts dating Tank, does she really move on from Emmett?

I don't think so. Bay is still seeking out Emmett. She is still turning to him for support and for guidance, for instance when she is depressed about her inability to make art and when she is confused by Ty's lie.

Later, when Emmett asks Bay, "Is the only reason you are with Tank because you thought Ty cheated?" Bay answers, "No." But I believe that actually may have been one of the only reasons Bay was with Tank. She wanted someone safe, when she thought both Emmett and Ty had cheated on her. She wanted "a sweet, uncomplicated guy," as Daphne suggests. But once Bay learns that Ty never cheated on her, then having a sweet, uncomplicated guy isn't as important anymore. Bay didn't feel she needed the safety net of Tank, once she knew Ty had not cheated.

When Bay first receives that e-mail from Ty, she DOES say to Tank that part of her hopes Ty is asking to get back together. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean Bay would have been willing to get back together with Ty, but she did want him to ask.

I wonder how Bay processes the fact that Emmett immediately wanted to get back together, after he cheated. In fact, unlike Ty, Emmett never wanted to shake Bay loose in the first place. And yet, for over a year and a half, Bay was never willing to get back together with Emmett.

Bay deleted Ty's email and hasn't been tempted to contact him, even after learning that he never cheated. Bay let Ty go in a way that she has never been able to let Emmett go. Emmett sometimes feels threatened by Bay's feelings for Ty, but to me, that says a lot. I don't think Emmett needs to feel as insecure as he sometimes does.

Bay loves Emmett more than he knows.

Bay moves on from Ty, but even though she starts dating Tank, does she really move on from Emmett?

I don't think so. Bay is still seeking out Emmett. She is still turning to him for support and for guidance, for instance when she is depressed about her inability to make art and when she is confused by Ty's lie.

Later, when Emmett asks Bay, "Is the only reason you are with Tank because you thought Ty cheated?" Bay answers, "No." But I believe that actually may have been one of the only reasons Bay was with Tank. She wanted someone safe, when she thought both Emmett and Ty had cheated on her. She wanted "a sweet, uncomplicated guy," as Daphne suggests. But once Bay learns that Ty never cheated on her, then having a sweet, uncomplicated guy isn't as important anymore. Bay didn't feel she needed the safety net of Tank, once she knew Ty had not cheated.

When Bay first receives that e-mail from Ty, she DOES say to Tank that part of her hopes Ty is asking to get back together. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean Bay would have been willing to get back together with Ty, but she did want him to ask.

I wonder how Bay processes the fact that Emmett immediately wanted to get back together, after he cheated. In fact, unlike Ty, Emmett never wanted to shake Bay loose in the first place. And yet, for over a year and a half, Bay was never willing to get back together with Emmett.

Personally, I think Bay wanted Ty to care, not necessarily want to get back together. With Emmett, he wanted to get back together and cared enough to reach out to her in the aftermath. All Bay got from Ty was he cheated and didn’t care enough to see how she was doing. And that hurts.

Now, one could argue Ty is overseas, but he managed to get in touch with Mary Beth. Once again, that reinforces to Bay that Ty did this hurtful act and didn’t want to find out how she was. Or even try to make amends.

Bay was definitely with Tank because he was the safe choice. The guy who she believed wouldn’t cheat, and she was right. He didn’t. But still he wasn’t right for her. In a way, Ty’s lie sets Bay free. You’re right. She doesn’t need Tank as a safety net and she doesn’t fall apart like many expected her to. She really isn’t tempted to contact Ty.

It’s understandable for Emmett to feel threatened by Ty, but Bay’s love for Emmett runs deep. She really truly loves him with all of her heart.

Yes, I remember my mind immediately went to Emmett when Bay was crying to Tank about if Ty even cared or felt bad about hurting her. Because we know how much Emmett wanted to make it up to her.

After she didn't even reach out to him after she found out he didn't cheat, even just to talk, it's pretty clear that her feelings for Ty were not that deep and never will be.

I'm going with waffles, because Kathryn mentioned that to Bay in her talk about good sex in Season 1A. But breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so I am good with Bay and Emmett sharing any of the above!

Me, too. I really do think it did change her perception of Tank. It was as if every encounter with Tank provided Bay with a new piece of information as to why he was not the right person for her. But that encounter provided a VERY telling piece of information. In my opinion, that's really what sank Tank. Bay still left a door slightly ajar for him, but she tuned out after that.

Lying was such a dumb thing for Ty to do, too. I know he was a mess with going overseas, and that is understandable. But I wish he could have seen that what he was doing actually hurt Bay more than if he had perished in war. If Ty had died, Bay would still have his love. But the way he chose to break up with her, Ty took that love away and replaced it with indifference. That's painful. At least when Emmett cheated, Bay knew he was not indifferent to her.

Yes! I am almost surprised Bay didn't figure out that Ty hadn't cheated. Because if Ty had cheated, he would have tried to make amends or at least find out how Bay was doing. The very fact that he did neither of those things meant something was up. Ty isn't that cold of a human being. I cannot imagine what Bay was thinking. Knowing that Ty was not even trying to apologize or check on her after it happened must have felt like such a slap in the face.

Yep. Once Bay found out it was a lie, she no longer needed the safety net provided by Tank. Bay must have finally realized that she is not some person with a flaw that causes guys to cheat. Instead, Emmett cheated because he was going through a difficult situation without the maturity or coping skills necessary to handle it. Noah (sort of) cheated because he was confused about his feelings for Daphne and his thoughts were clouded by his hearing loss. And Ty didn't cheat at all. He felt a need to keep things simple, so he could cope with what was on the path before him.

So true. It's why it was hard for me to imagine Bay in Germany with Ty. What if something happened and she needed Emmett? Or what if something bad happened to Emmett, and Bay was half a world away from him? She would be beside herself with grief and worry. It was bad when Ty's helicopter crashed. I cannot imagine what Bay would have done in Germany, if Emmett was missing and/or critically injured back at home. Bay would have been beside herself with grief and worry.

Yes. I would say that she did do that.

I wonder how Bay would have felt if Mandy had been real and if she had told Emmett that she did not feel comfortable with him being friends with Bay. That would have been really hard on Bay, at least, I think it would.

So true. I think back to the first episode of Season 3, and Emmett just wants to know that Bay is okay. It's obvious that he has been thinking about her ever since she left his home. He immediately tells Bay that he didn't mind her stopping by to talk to him. I am sure what Emmett learned hurt him, but all that matters is Bay.

2x10 pisses me off, too, but I get it. He was so frustrated. I love that in the third episode of Season 2B, he was already staring after Bay when she left his garage. I could hear the conversation he must have been having with himself. Emmett was telling himself, "Yep. I am still not over her. Hell, I am NOT over Bay by a long-shot. I am no where close to being over her. I will NEVER be over Bay."

It was a perfect scene. But in my mind, it was Emmett wanting to show Bay he is still a romantic, more than the writers showing us. Maybe it is because I know, like the back of my hand, I know Emmett is a romantic. To me, that scene was all about Emmett wanting to set himself apart from all of those other guys Bay has been dating.

I agree. Bay cares about Ty, but she is not connected to him. Odd considering the level of intimacy that Bay and Ty shared. But it wasn't really all that intimate, at least, not in an emotional sense.

That's Emmett's flaw, he has NO idea how much Bay loves him. Granted, she's done a damn good job at suppressing those feelings for him (Mainly because she's been scared to open her heart to him again) but she's never loved anyone the way she loves him. This wasn't the first time she was concerned about his safety, last time she stuck her nose in, Simone happened, this time she wouldn't stop until she knew he was OKAY. When you're that concerned about someone, the level of love is telling. Yes Emmett hurt her deeply but as she pointed out.. She never stopped loving him. And the thing, I'm not even they're aware of how much they love each other, Emmett has never loved anyone harder and he beats himself up daily for hurting his true love. I knew he wouldn't turn down the golden opportunity to be with Bay. Your dream girl offers herself to you, he's not going to turn it down.

Not only does it encapsulate how Emmett feels about Bay, but it also captures how I feel about Bay & Emmett. They are perfect together. And I don't think I'm ever going to find that feeling with anyone else. Bay & Emmett are love.
