Toby also happens to be the brother to the girl Emmett wants back badly. So I'd say they are connected and he's been really kind to Emmett since he forgave him.

On that topic, I loved the brief scene at the courthouse where Toby finger-spelled Oklahoma for Emmett. Even though Toby had next to no lines and only a few seconds of camera time, his body language spoke volumes to me.

He knew why Emmett was there. He understood why Emmett wanted to go with John to rescue Bay, and he readily volunteered to stay back with Kathryn. If Emmett had not been there, it might have been Toby making the trip with John to go after Bay.

Toby knows the score. He is smart. He is bound to know that Emmett is not over Bay, and I think he realizes that Bay is not over Emmett. Wasn't it Toby that said something to Bay (right before the breakup) about Emmett & Bay being perfect together? Toby gets it.

But like I said, regardless of Emmett's romantic relationship (or lack thereof now with Bay) I just want to see these two become closer. Bromance.

I like their friendship it feels very real. Toby was able to forgive him and Emmett seemed very gratefu that he was willing to give him a second chance. Toby doesn't have many people besides Bay that he can go to for advice and it seems like Emmett is one those people he can trust. Love that they have music in common since he needs somebody to talk about that with considering i feel like he gets lost in the shuffle with the whole switch thing.

Agreed with all above...Emmett was so relieved...I think when Kathryn was awkward and cold with him (with good reason mind you) he was pretty much hopeless

And it's nice that these two are actual friends instead of friends by association
