I didn't mention this before, but Zelena breaking into song when she wasn't anywhere near the EF felt slightly strange, and having her create a magical music box was a little bit of a deus ex machina, but Rebecca and Lana made things work just by the strength of their performances.

I don't think I've ever seen a villain get under Emma's skin like Fiona did.
Doesn't surprise me though. She's probably spent years psychologically torturing orphans, like the ones she's kept prisoner. Beating them down. So she knows all the right buttons to push. But Emma found the strength to fight back. The final battle won't be so easily won. As the song goes. Goodness will triumph and evil's undone. __________________

I'd vote for it! Certainly better than most Eurovision songs.

I had very low expectations when I first heard that Once was going to do a musical episode. Musical episodes are not easy to pull off. They're hit or miss. But I actually enjoyed this one, and the songs are good. I like how the songs were woven into the mythology of the show, and the theme of the episode was all about Emma. And the CS wedding, which was very beautiful.

I was worried about it too. I wasn't sure how it could work, and thought that the producers had been bullied into doing it. I ended up pleasantly surprised, and increasingly enjoying it more as it went along. It ended up making a lot more sense than I expected, and that was nice and surprising. Now I find I love most of the songs, especially the final one at the wedding.

They weren't bullied. The composers came to them and offered to write the songs for a musical episode.

In retrospect, I'm glad that Adam and Eddy waited until the right time and story to do the musical episode. If it had been a one-off thing, totally separate from the mythology of the show, I don't think it would have worked as well.

Certain things work better as a one-off, really. Musical wasn't in line with OUAT's usual tone, so I don't think it could have worked as a long-term thing without a serious shift in the show's tone.
