Ya know, I've always liked MRJ's approach to contrasting two different versions of Neal in the past and present. From playing a 20 something Neal in Tallahassee, then later playing a more hardened adult version of Neal in the present.

He had this way in the first episode of making him come off so carefree and innocent. And a bit of that sexy rebel thing to him, which Emma seemed to be attracted to. But then who could blame her? Whereas now Neal seems a lot more reserved.

That's some good acting right there.

He's a very good actor. I think the reason why he's more reserved now is because he has this difficult past with Emma. He left her, because he believed it was the right thing to do, but it hurt her and she's still not over it.
