I just re-watched the pilot and I was reminded how brilliant Ginny was in that first episode. There were two scenes that stood out. One is the Mary Margaret and Emma scene in the above gif. Which is a scene about a mother not knowing she is mother, but still connecting with her daughter.
The other is the scene in the mine where Snow and Charming go see the Dark One. Even though Charming is in that scene, it's more about Snow as a mother protecting her daughter.

The scene where Snow gives up baby Emma to give Emma her best chance always gets me. It's acted so well, and it just breaks my heart every time.

It's the way she just wails with grief. It brings a tear to my eye everytime.

Plus the way she holds it together while Charming is taking Emma away. You can see how hard it is for Snow to stay calm, the overwhelming grief beneath her calm.

Ginny was simply brilliant in the scene where Snow was giving birth and where she had to give Emma up to give he daughter her best chance. It's the reverse of the scene where Snow doesn't want to go into the wardrobe right before she goes into labor.

The pilot really has a lot of great acting moments for Ginny. Probably why she liked it so much when she read the script.
