How many people would know how to things like that? Unless you have learned how to bind books (for the record, I worked in a library and I knew how to do a lot but I never learned how to bind books), it would make me think that he is someone who has a memory.
I was just coming here to post the exact same thing!

I think he is the writer of the fairy tale book. I mean HOW did MM end up with the book anyway? The only way he could be able to leave Storybrooke is if he's not bound to the curse.

Plus he's a writer. It just makes sense.

My other thought was that he somehow gave the book to MM. Maybe he is descended from the Grimm Brothers, etc.? I also wondered if he was the "narrator" of the book?

He knows too much for him to just be another fairy tale character.

I still don't get why he wet the pages and rebound the book though. Did he change something?

Also I'm new to the board - so glad I found you guys! I'd been looking for a place to speculate about the plot!

Welcome dream!

Seeing that ep 20 is titled "The Stranger" we will find out more about him at that point. Plus, it is the
Spoiler:
ep, so he is somehow involved in that.
But I could also see him engrossed in all sort of fairytales and books stuff right from the time when he had come to the "real world". Maybe he had hoped to find a certain answer in the written down FT stories and then decided to tell the "real" tales - leading to the book, Henry has.
However, the producers have stated some times already that the mystery about the writer of the book is something for season 2. That would leave out August then, I suppose..

From what Jefferson said about the curse, the terms that generally apply to everyone (like not remembering) can be voided if it suits an individual's specific suffering.

So, Jefferson didn't remember because the worse thing for him was knowing he was separated from his daughter and knowing she didn't even know who he was.

So, let's assume the stranger is cursed -

Then, not being able to enter Storybrooke was the worse thing - or part of the worse thing - that could happen to him.

Going with Pinocchio, like Pinocchio, he got to travel the world having adventures and telling incredible stories (although writers aren't technically lying, so no nose issues), but he was never able to return to his father.

In that case, knowing would also be part of his curse.

Interesting thought! I could see that being the case - especially since August
Spoiler:
If he is indeed Pinocchio, it would only be painful for him to face Gepetto - who has no memory of him at all. The writers also said that August added pages of his story to the book - and so far we haven't seen any Pinocchio pages, right?

Not sure, I hope when the curse is broken that everyone stays as they are. I wouldn't want Emma to be a baby and Henry to disappear.

We really need to learn more about August.

I think the hints in that ep - the lying stuff, the leg thing- all support the theory of Pinocchio. And then this promo for 1x19.. ..
Can't wait for that August/Gold scene!

I'm excited for the August/Gold scenes too, I'm very curious.

If he is Pinocchio maybe that's why we haven't seen him near Marco or Archie yet, I wonder how he would react to them.
