Yeah Neal death spoilers came around mid january of the hiatus when s3 was airing. They were keeping it secret but a assistant hinted someone will die and ae came out and said a regular will die and by the lack of mrj filming signs pointed to Neal

True but that's at least partly because it wasn't a good decision storywise. The characters mourned him, got him back and then had to mourn him again.
