So basically he wanted to run from his grief and responsibilities. Sounds like another terrible father character I know. Only this one decided to blow up part of a city to deal.

I'm not sure if I'd agree that he was a good father but he loved his son. That never changed. Pan obviously never did. I just don't really get how he could love his wife that much and not care about their child at all.

Who blew up part of a city?

Malcolm on Arrow had this huge plan to destroy the bad part of the city and everyone in it. All because his wife was murdered there years before. Also, he loved his wife but didn't seem to care for his son at all. (His son was one of the people who ended up dead when his plan came into play.) He cared more for the daughter he had as a result of a fling. And then died off-screen in the finale this season to save said daughter.

They never really explained it. I think he thought Tommy was weak, worthless, etc.

It would be interesting to know what his childhood was like. Maybe it wasn't even that different from Neals.l
