I have no problem with Emma getting backstory. It's all the coincidences are just too much.

I think reading about the story instead of watching it makes the coincidences more obvious. There's nothing to destract from them.

But I'm glad that Emma has more backstory. I always wanted to see more of it, although I never expected there to be that many FTL characters in her past.

It was probably not easy to make her past interesting without magic in it.

They should have tried. And it doesn't need to be interesting. Not everyone has an interesting past.

It's important if they want to show a lot of her past it in flashbacks but I agree that it wasn't necessary. We know that her childhood wasn't exactly happy and they could have shown some of that without any magic or ftl characters.

They wouldn't have had this problem with Neal. He had enough backstory for quite a few character centric episodes.
