I wanted Emma, Neal and Henry to spend some time as a family. That's why it would have been perfect for Neal to go to NY with Emma and Henry. They could have made some real memories and be truely happy for awhile. If ST had to end and if Neal had to die, then I would have prefered them to have a year together. They deserved that much.

It didn't make sense that he couldn't go to NY. The curse didn't affect him.

Unfortunately things often don't make much sense on this show. The writers didn't want him to go, so he couldn't.
