The problem is that I honestly don't believe the writers put a lot of thought into it. From what they said after Tallahassee aired, I got the feeling that Emma was older then she should have been and that they spent more time together then made sense. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got.
My guess is that they couldn't have been together for more than six months, but I could be wrong about that too.

She was suppose to be 17. She had Henry at 18 in jail.

In S1, Regina mentions that she isn't worried about Emma sticking around because the longest she ever lived anywhere was 7 months, in Tallahassee. So, I am thinking she met Neal when she was 16, turned 17 while with him, and then 18 while in jail.

Emma and Neal never made it to Tallahassee. She went there to look for him when she got out of jail.

Didn't the writers later deny that Emma was underage when she met Neal? I seem to remember them saying something like that. It doesn't make sense because Emma had to be 17 when she was arrested. That's what makes everything so confusing.

Emma wasn't in Tallahassee before Neal/jail. Sh went there after she gave Henry up. And it was 2 years, not 7 months.

I thought they had been together for six months to a year. I thought Emma was 17 when she first met him and then got arrested when she was 18. Its hard for Jmo to pass as 17 but you have to go with that

She had Henry at 18. She had to have been with Neal for a small amount of time after her 18th birthday it order to still be 18 when Henry was born. I think she was 17 when she met Neal.

His age was listed somewhere in Tallahassee, but I don't think it's possible to know how old he was supposed to be. He was born about 300 years ago, but spent most of his time as a boy in Neverland. When he came to our world he would have had to use a wrong date of birth.

It is possible that she was 17, but I really do think she was 16 going on 17. Here is why:

They were most likely together at least a month or two before deciding to go to Tallahassee.

They spent at last 6 months in Tallahassee, at least according to what Regina dug up on her. (And we know she was with Neal while in Tallahassee)

She was sentenced to 11 months in jail. She gave birth to Henry while she was in jail and had just turned 18.

That is 19 months, almost 2 years. So, it is possible she was 17 the whole time she was with Neal, but I think it is unlikely. That is JMO though.


ETA: I think Neal was supposedly 20. Not much older than her but old enough that some people get hateful

Emma and Neal were never in Tallahassee. They were in Portland and were planning to go to Tallahassee before August showed up. And Regina said 2 years, not 7 months.

I think 20 years is a good guess.

Emma and Neal met in Portland. They wanted to go to Tallahassee together, but August showed up and Emma went to jail before they had a chance to go there. When Emma was released from prison she went to Tallahassee in the hope of finding Neal there. That's what Regina was refering to.
