Just in general.

I wasn't crazy about Cinderella. Although I actually like her better than the new Cinderalla. But I liked all the original characters better than the other ones we're seeing this season, such as Alice, etc. They are the real characters to me not the alternate EF versions.

But in general people would get upset with Rumple when they made deals with him and he actually wanted repaid for the deal. It's not like he never warned them that all magic comes with a price.

As far as Mr. Gold in SB, I didn't think he really wanted Ashley's baby. I thought it was just to get a way to get Emma to owe him the favor because he knew that he would need her to get to Bae.

Oh, I completely agree. Cinderella is just a special case for me because she really was just an abused, desperate teenager who clearly had no idea what she was doing until it was too late.. And I guess it also makes me uncomfortable because I have a 20-year-old (ok, she turns 21 on Wednesday ) little sister that I can be pretty protective of (she's still a kid to me ).

Well he definitely manipulated a vulnerable Cinderella to get what he wanted, I agree. I just feel like in general people put all this blame on him when they actually get something they wanted out of the deal.

Aww. I think sometimes our life experiences have things to do with certain actions of the characters, absolutely. I never like manipulative, witchy women (Zelena I'm looking at you, kid) because I've known a few in my life.

ITA

Yeah, I've also known people like Zelena, or Hook, which is a major reason l don't like these characters. On the other hand I see a lot of myself in Rumple (not the DO!Rumple, obviously ), which is why he's my favorite and I keep rooting for him despite everything he's done/does. Because I understand why he acts the way he does, and I can relate to him. That doesn't mean I excuse everything he does. Some things, yes, but not everything.

I understand Rumple. Like you said, I don't excuse him for everything, but I get it. And I always root for the underdog.

I never quite understood why people blamed Rumple so much when he made a deal with him. Sometimes he came to them and sometimes they came to him. But it's not like people didn't know what he was like. He cajoled people into making deals with him sometimes but he didn't force them.
As far as I'm concerned, people only have themselves to blame for entering into deals with Rumple - he warns them, for one, and like you said, they know who he is - he's legendary.

I did read the transcript earlier for Price of Gold and, yeah, Cinderella was guilty of wanting anything to get out of her situation more than she was trying to trade her baby.....BUT......she didn't even care to look at the contract, so that's strike one against her. To be honest, I never liked her - I still remember her complaining in Skin Deep that Thomas couldn't spend time with her because he was working.

Different strokes for different folks, I think....

As I said, she was just a kid and I'm not comfortable with blaming a kid for being manipulated by an adult. I also checked the transcript, and she did ask Rumple about the price, and he only said "something precious" and implied that he was just interested in the "riches" she was going to get. And that his "needs were small". Nothing about the baby. He was purposely manipulating her because he needed that deal.

This is why I ended my last post with “different strokes for different folks”, because clearly we don’t see eye to eye on this.

I don’t know exactly how old Cinderella was, but for ME - and I'm not speaking for anyone else - she was “old enough”. She was probably about 20 years old - at least - and of marrying age. I don’t see her as a child or a teenager, but as a young woman. I have no problem if anyone disagrees with that, but this is how I see it.

I’m re-reading the transcript now, and Rumple did not force the contract on Cinderella; in fact, he advised her to go back to her life - and change it. He told her all magic comes with a price and that she can't handle the wand, it's evil. He may have been manipulating her, but she had free will - she wanted magic to get her out of her circumstances instead of working for it.

I’m dropping this now because we’re just going in circles - it’s not important enough for me to get into an argument about

She was 19 when she had her baby (That's what she told Emma). So she couldn't have been older than 18 when she made the deal with Rumple. Possibly even younger. And she had been abused for years by her adoptive family.

In fact, if you read the whole script, it's made very clear that she was in her late teens when she had Alexandra.

He was pretending to be a friend so she'd trust him (she didn't know who Rumple was). It's all part of his manipulation - And it clearly works And Cinderella might have had a free will, but she didn't have a life to go back to - only abuse. Why would she choose to go back to that when she had a chance to get an actual, better life and freedom right there? And Rumple purposely made it look like he only wanted gold or diamonds in return. Honestly, I would've made the same choice.

I know I feel for Spinner!Rumple so much, and it makes me angry when I see people saying that this episode showed that he was always power-hungry/evil. I mean, his desperation was made perfectly clear (you only need to watch the scene with him and beggar!zoso talking by the fireside to see it ), and he just wanted to save his son (and the other kids). Because Bae was everything to him, literally. Much like Cinderella, Rumple was just a simple, downtrodden peasant who didn't understand what exactly he was getting into and that he was being manipulated until it was too late.

CD, I love discussion...but I was afraid that it was going to a bad place, and I didn’t want that to happen.

Seamstress, fair enough - I’ll look at the transcript again when I get a chance. Cinderella still won’t ever be a favorite, but I want to be fair.

Ouch, poor Rumple. Anyone who says that he’s always been power hungry hasn’t watched the show. He was a kind, gentle, loving man who showed great compassion and, in doing so, was tricked into taking on the most evil of curses. The man we’re seeing in S7 is the real Rumple...
