Ok, seeing I suggested it, I'll start. I thought there was a lot of good things with this episode.

Obviously, it was Jess' birthday and she had high hopes that Nick would come through and do the righty. He had burnt all his initiative planning the birthday party to a high level but neglected the day itself. This lead Jess into thinking it was going to be another let down and she sulked off to the movies. In the end, it was like Colonel Hannibal Smith, Nick must have loved it when the plan came together.

What did we get in between:
Cece is spending more time behind the bar. With Schmidts help, she might eventually become reasonable at the job. Schmidt was great in the way that he "quietly" got her over the line making the Old Fashioned. (I am not sure what it is about that drink because Future Nick in season two told Nick to make Jess an Old Fashioned). Schmidt advised Cece to harden up and it looks like they are friends again.

Winston and Coach, in the battle of egos, managed to combine and make Jess double birthday cake. When Jess sulked home it was almost comical that she did not notice the decorations and did not question Coachs' bakery explosion (that was not on the internet). It was good to see them put egos aside and bond again.

The birthday message at the movies was gold. I'll take advice on the mobile phone message just before it started but was coinicdental that it was a flip phone?

Winston did a great job narrating "....and then there was Jess". It was good to see messages from previous guest stars (mum, dad, Foster, Sadie, Dave, Bearclaw and Trans "racist" comments were a LOL moment). There was also another third party reference to Nick when Sadie was reading out Nicks birthday message and she mentioned Old Age Nick. I think that is also a message, in that Nick see as this long term...

We saw Nick produce the coin that he had on him when he and Jess first kissed. After the party, it is probably the only money he has left to his name.

It all came together and Nick scored big Brownie points. A man after my own heart, under promise, over deliver. Some thought that those three words might have come but alas, not yet. They are still "really, really liking" each other

An Old Fashioned holds a special place in my heart. A friend of mine passed away in 2012 and that was his drink. He did not make it how Schmidt told Cece too, Nick made it right I think back when he mentioned it. Fun fact it's also the drink the Jacob makes for Hannah in Crazy Stupid Love.

Winston Vs Coach was hilarious, I love their continuous battles over inconsequential things

I enjoyed this ep a lot more than any of the others, it had a spark about it

Sorry to hear about your friend. Sometimes it's the smaller things (like the association of a drink) that can bring back memories.

Schmidts recipe was different to the one Nick uses - so good pick up there. I went back to find the Nick from the Future reference and it was season 2, ep 2 (memory failed me) and I think I can see Nick make it with Jacks, lemon rind and sugar. That reference might also be ominous because Nick says to Jess, I might do something really bad to you in the future and I hope you'll forgive me. Then he gives her the drink.

This was the first episode in season 3 that I enjoyed as a whole! Especially seeing my schmece interacting and bonding made my heart melt.
