"I don't know about this...what kind of story could you possibly come up with that would put them at ease?"
She asked him. Looking at him and then letting a small sigh out.
"I just don't see anything that would fit the bill."
Elisa put her face in her hand, her elbows balanced on her knees.
"Go ahead and try to come up with something that isn't completely crazy."
She said glancing through her hands at him. She didn't know how her parents would react to the truth but she could kind of see his reluctance. Elisa looked over at Tate for a long time. This was hard. He didn't want to tell their parents the truth but if he lied and they saw through it, it would make things much worse.

Charlotte
"No one's forcing you. But your a loser if you don't drink with me."
She said with a smirk. Then she saw the beer bottle.
"Ahhh, I see you got the party started already. I need to catch up."
She got the blender out and started putting ice in it and put some pina colada mix complete with rum into it. She started to blend and then pour herself a drink.
"Want one? I'm starting out slow and fruity and then starting to kick it into high gear."
She took a sip from her glass and looked at Kiki.
"So, basically I only have a few week's left in my apartment. My lease is apparently up at the end of this month and I didn't remember, and my landlord didn't bother to remind me until today. I have two weeks to find somewhere..."
She huffed and her whole body heaved as she leaned against the counter.

"Say..." he started, then stopped with a sigh, trying to think of something. He knew what it would mean getting themselves into, but he was willing to try, knowing what the alternative was. "Say I washed up somewhere after the accident, didn't remember who I was, and... the memories didn't come back until now, and I came back."

He knew it wasn't necessarily the soundest plan, but it was the best thing they had, and all they could hope for would be that their parents would be so glad to see him alive that they wouldn't give it too much thought.

"I know what it sounds like, but if there's two of us saying the same thing, they have to believe it, they... They have to," he frowned to himself. "Rosie won't like having to lie, but I know she'll do it. And they'll get a granddaughter out of the deal."

KIKI
"Ha," she fake laughed. "Ha," she picked up her bottle. "Ha," she took another chug before putting it down, swiping a chip, and moving into the kitchen to join Charlotte. Stopping at the counter, she watched her friend work, mixing up the drinks. At the offer of the resulting concoction, Kiki gave her friend a look that came to 'what do you think?' accompanied by hand gestures that said 'gimme.'

The request was forgotten when she heard what it was that had Charlotte worked up. "Hold on, he can't do that," she planted her hands on the counter. "No, I mean you have rights, there's... procedure, he has to let you know when your lease is ending, it's baiting if he doesn't, and..." She stopped, sensing they wouldn't be getting anywhere. "Well, you know what? Two, no... three things. One, get me that fruity drink. Two, you are better off without that idiot, and three..." she threw her arm around her friend's shoulders. "Search no more, you can just move in here," she spoke confidently; she wouldn't take no for an answer.

"I don't like it."
She said with a shake of her head.
"But...I'll go along with it, I guess."
Elisa wasn't happy about the plan but she was afraid if she protested Tate would feel he had to leave again. She couldn't bare that again. Especially when she might be able to stop it. She nodded.
"Okay. We'll tell them that. Now let's focus on getting you well so you can see Rosie and Lisa tomorrow and mom and dad after that. How's that sound? Are you about ready for another eye wash?"
She asked him.

Charlotte
Charlotte began to pour Kiki a drink and then turned to hand it to her.
"Seriously? Are you sure? I know you like having freedom and privacy. I...well...who am I kidding? I need to accept because I have no real choice."
She took a sip from her drink.
"But I'll find another place as soon as possible. I don't want to be a trouble to you."
She said with a weak smile.
"Thank you."
Charlotte said with a genuine smile now as she looked at her.
"You wanna put on some retro- high school music and paint each others toenails or something?"
She suggested. Charlotte was definitely what you would call a 'lipstick lesbian', she was girly and always had designer clothes, purses, shoes, and make up. She was a star in her law firm and she was hoping for partner in a few years. Not only did she like dressing well but she also knew that if you dressed the part it got attention, and the partner had been looking at her more than most.

"I don't like it any more than you do, but you know what'll happen if Mom hears about this guy and what he did and almost did. She won't care that he's dead, she'll be frightened to even leave the house anymore like someone will come at her. We need to remove the threat, then she'll be able to see what's left and be happy."

Washing out his eyes was at once the most awkward and most wonderful thing to him right about then. He wasn't expecting some miracle cure, but as long as he could sense some kind of progress, then he could be patient.

"Think we better get to bed, get some rest, and that's both of us," he reached blindly to give her head a playful shake. "Nurses need sleep, too, baby sister."

KIKI
Yes, it was true, she was noted as a lover of living alone ever since she'd left home, and college, and gotten her apartment. Any girlfriend she'd had she had not had long enough to even consider living together, and all her friends, including Charlotte, would tease how, if that ever came to pass, it would be a deal breaker. But this was Charlotte, not a girlfriend. This was her best friend, and she needed help, so what kind of friend would she be if she left her hanging?

"Yes, I'm sure, shut up," she laughed, taking a sip of the fruity drink, frowning at the combo it made with the lingering taste of chips and beer, but then that was them wasn't it? She was chips and beer, and Charlotte was a fancy drink in fancy clothes.

"Sims, you are no trouble, come on. It's not like we haven't lived together before," she pointed out, thinking of their college days. Kiki had pulled so many strings to make sure they were dorm roomies that it was a wonder she hadn't gotten herself tangled in them like a spider's prey.

She wasn't as much into nail painting as Charlotte was, and any time she could remember having had painted nails since high school had without fail involved Charlotte holding her hand or foot in place while she did her thing. But her friend had had a bad day, so she relented, pointing to the bathroom where the bottles would be - a gift from Charlotte, of course.

"I can't believe you didn't go all Law & Order on that landlord of yours, it's just... No, actually, forget him," she chugged her drink until she had cleansed out the beer taste, "It's the start of a new era, Kiki and Charlotte, the universe, etc etc... We get to play house," she teased as Charlotte returned, polish in hand.

"Do you wanna share or are you worse of a bed hog then you use to be when we were little?"
She teased.
"I can easily take the couch. I have a pretty comfy couch. I'll set the alarm to get up early so we can do another eye wash and put some fresh ice on your face for a bit."
She told him with a small nod. She was worried about him, still but she wanted to be fresh for meeting Rosie and Lisa. She looked at her hands, what if they didn't like her? She looked back at Tate. She decided not to voice her worries, deciding they were probably silly.

Charlotte
"Oh yes, play house just like we use to as kids."
She teased with a laugh. She set the polishes down and looked at Kiki.
"Which color are you feeling?"
She asked her as she took a sip of her drink again.
"To be truthful I probably could have gotten things put on hold but he was being a real jerk and claimed he had sent me a letter informing me of the lease ending - which of course, magically was lost, so yeah."
She shrugged her shoulders.
"We're set now. I'll just have to get some of the guys to help move some of the heavier things. Some of my stuff will have to go into storage. I have a bigger tv then you so we can put in the living room if you want?"
She suggested. Then shrugged again.
"We'll worry about that later."
She looked at Kiki. Then went to take a sip of her drink and realized it was already empty.
"I'm ganging you, Kik."
She said with a grin.

Was that a threat? Of course it wasn’t a threat. It was a history lesson! Jack craved knowledge and like any good and true benevolent soul, he only wished to share his acquired knowledge with all those around him. The good doctor believed otherwise, or perhaps the guard outside the door just needed something to do with his stick. The baton, that is.

As soon as the guard barged in, Jack conjured up his most innocent smile as he folded his hands politely in his lap like the good little, non-misbehaving inmate they all knew he wasn’t. All the good doctor had to do was snap her proverbial fingers and the guard was on the other side of the door once more, evidentially alert should Harleen have need of his masculinity at some point. “This institution seems rather quick to the idea of using force. Should I be concerned? Maybe have my lawyer at the ready?” All at once the congenial smile he wore was gone as he glanced back at Dr. Quinzel.

That was a threat, if ever there was one.

He held her gaze for several long moments before the muscles on his face relaxed and he was the psychotically friendly Jack Napier once more. When Harleen inquired after his knowledge of their present subject at hand, his lips continued to widen into a smile that could only be best described as greatly exaggerated and disturbingly comical. Wouldn’t you like to know, Jack’s eyes gleamed darkly. “I have an unhealthy obsession with the History channel,” served as his only explanation.

"I'm sure that won't be needed."
She said of his threat of a lawyer. She looked at him when he talked about being obsessed with the History channel she didn't believe it for a second.
"When you flayed the man, and he finally died....how did you feel? Good, bad? Something else entirely?"
She questioned him. Harleen wanted to know, in truth what it was like to watch someone die. What had it been like when Guy had died? When the light had went out of his eyes? What had happened to him? What did it look like? It was a morbid curiosity but one just the same.

“What did you call me?” he asked, feigning hurt. “A bed… hog? I’m hurt, Lis… No, really, I am in pain, and you wound me even more?” he went on, in the same sort of fake dramatic tone he would employ when they were little, to make her laugh. “I promise to be a reasonable sleeping mate, stay on my side and everything, come on,” he tapped the empty space next to him. He could sense something was going through her head, and what blurry shape he saw of her seemed to confirm that. “One question though, did you get that snoring under control, because that was a nightmare when your room was next to mine,” he told her, hoping to distract her and make her laugh again.

KIKI
“Yeah, why not?” Kiki laughed. “This time with an actual house,” she gestured, before her attention was brought back to the bottles presented to her. She frowned. “I don’t know, you pick,” she declared, planting her chin on her knees to watch her friend make the choice.

It was harder not to get fidgety, even though Charlotte hadn’t started her nails yet, thinking of her landlord and how he’d treated her, but she knew this night was about having fun, so she chose to remain on the side of saying ‘good riddance’ and moving forward.

“I’m sorry, I heard ‘bigger tv’ and went to another place in my head. It was beautiful,” she joked. Her television was fine, too, but Charlotte’s was indeed better, and the prospect of having it in here was making this project even better. “We’ll get you sorted, Sims, even if it has to be messy for a while. You know I thrive with problem solving,” she grinned, reclaiming her bag of chips and fishing out a few before offering the bag to her friend, then thinking better of it since she was still mid fruity thing, though now she saw her glass was empty. “Fill up, please,” she passed her own empty glass, watching Charlotte get up for the refills and tilting her head back so she now saw her upside down.

“You know, the whole playing house thing, the only bit I remember is being stuck hanging out with this kid Cody that lived across the street from us, because his mother would babysit me when my father was working in the summer, and he would want to pretend to be married, the whole thing, and he’d go ‘I’m the husband, and you have to be my wife, ha ha ha,’” she intoned in a deep voice. “He… didn’t actually talk like that, obviously, he was like nine or ten, but anyway. I would get so mad, telling him ‘no, you be the wife, too,’” she said this in a high-pitched voice, then with a sigh. “In hindsight, I should have known my deal way back then,” she threw a smirk to Charlotte. “I mean, why can’t we play house and both be the wife? Not like either one of us is looking to snatch herself a hubby.”

"I snore softly...like a little purring kitty-cat."
She said with a small laugh and grabbed some PJ's from her dresser and looked at him.
"I'll be right back. Gonna change."
She walked into the bathroom and closed the door and changed into her pink PJ's which had two pugs on the front and said 'Pugs and Kisses' over the chest. She brushed her teeth and came out of the bathroom. She turned the stereo down lower and got into bed.
"Now, I will settle in to purr."
She said with a chuckle.

Charlotte
Charlotte picked out a turquoises color for Kiki's nails and shook the bottle against her hand lightly. Then she took the glass from Kiki and went and filled them both up. She came back over and relaxed. After handing Kiki her glass, Charlotte uncapped the nailpolish, steadied Kiki's hand, and began to carefully paint her nails.
"I always played house with my friend Jenna. She would make me be the husband. Which I wasn't keen on. What part of me looks like a boy or for that matter...acts like a boy? You've seen me in relationships..I'm not even the masculine one in a relationship. I'm pretty much as girly as it gets - most of the time."
She shook her head. When she was done with one hand, she paused and took a drink from her glass.
"If she wanted to be the wife and I wanted to be the wife....didn't make sense that we both got what we both wanted - and both got to be wives. But no."
She shook her head.
"Not everyone will listen to logic."

OOC: I’m still waiting to see if Em will jump in before posting Jeyne again for our little space jail scene. If she doesn’t do it by later this evening, I’ll post him again myself.

Jack
Of course it would not be needed. Arkham Asylum had acquired enough scrutiny over the years for rumored abuses towards its rehabilitating inmates. Jack read the newspapers. He watched the news. Some of the atrocities committed inside the walls of the asylum seemed to be just as bad, if not worse, than some of the violence that occurred on the streets of Gotham. Had he been concerned when he learned he would be transferred to Arkham rather than a run of the mill penitentiary? Of course not, elsewise why plead insanity during the trial? Jack felt at home here. Everyone was just as queer and strange as he was.

“Are you not getting exhausted by the circles we keep running around each other?” Jack saw promise in Harleen Quinzel but he was beginning to grow bored with her. Surely she was intelligent enough to figure out that this line of questioning would get her nowhere with him. “What is the definition of insanity again?” Trying the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

Jack waited for the good doctor to come to that conclusion all on her own. By now it should have been obvious that he was not going to give her any freebees. She wanted answers to her questions. It was her job to try and figure out the man behind a seemingly senseless string of murders. But Jack did not like doing things the easy way, the normal way. Normal was boring. Normal would not reveal anything about either of them. Nothing about this situation was normal. Slowly, the queer caricature of a smile fell away from his lips. “How old are you, Dr. Harleen Quinzel?” Quid pro quo. She wanted things from him but he also wanted some things from her.

The ball was in the good doctor’s court now.

“More like a purring wildebeest,” he muttered under his breath with a chuckle, sitting up to take off his jacket, under which he had a t-shirt. He briefly considered taking off his tattered jeans, and although he had boxers underneath and besides had been known to wear much less in his earlier years, he decided to keep them on, only fishing out whatever he had in his pockets and feeling for the night stand before dumping everything there. While he’d been doing this, Elisa had been gathering her things, and when she announced she was going to change in the bathroom, he was in no way surprised. “Like I haven’t seen everything there is to see, and with unburned eyes at that,” he called after her. To be honest, he wasn’t surprised. Elisa wasn’t exactly the kind to be at ease with anyone looking at her, family or otherwise.

By the time she came back, he had already found his way under the covers, staring up at the ceiling without seeing it. He felt the mattress sink when she joined him, and he waited until she’d settled in before giving her a playful kick under the covers. “I see your feet are still as cold as they used to be,” he teased, turning his head to smile honestly. “Hey… thank you.” He couldn’t say what exactly he was thanking her for, if it was for letting him stay, for tending to him, for the simple act of being his baby sister, or everything about her in general, but he wanted her to hear his gratitude.

KIKI
Charlotte, in her infinite wisdom, had chosen the color she was about to submit her nails to. “How’s that booze kicking in, because I think I’d prefer if you painted just my nails and not my whole hand, too?” she joked… or was she joking? Her query was briefly forgotten as she was presented with new ‘refreshment,’ and her hand was submitted to Charlotte’s for the nail painting. Kiki snorted, which made her hand shake, which made Charlotte squeeze said hand so it would stay in place, at the image that was conjured in her mind, of a small Charlotte dressed as a boy and hating every minute of it.

“Logic, right. We are that, you and me,” she saluted her with her glass before taking to sipping it slowly. She didn’t have much of a choice now, with her hand like some strange claw, trying very much not to accidentally scratch the drying polish on her nails. At least she kept them short, or she might have been in more trouble than she already was. “Okay, but now… are we doing the real thing, or the kid way, with the as-of-yet-unrevealed-as-unnecessary-and-unwanted husband, because I have a feeling that will be me… she says, as she sits getting her nails done,” Kiki gave Charlotte a smirk.

"I'm twenty-six but I've seen enough patients in this hospital and enough cruelties in Gotham City to be twice my age."
She looked at him and then went to the door.
"Randy...Why don't you go to the break room and make some coffee for when I'm done? We'll have a cup together."
The guard looked in the small peek window and nodded.
"Yes, Dr. Quinzel. I'll even try and get us some pastries. You'll need to relax after this one, I'm sure. You'll be alright?"
He said and she nodded.
Before he was even gone she reached into her pocket and turned off the recording device. She turned to Jack Napier and looked at him sternly.
"Don't be fooled by my petite appearance. I have taken down a man three times my size with a pen. If you attack me you will regret it. If you talk to me while he's gone and answer my questions then you just might gain an ally here, on the inside."
She smiled, pleasantly.
"I have a feeling you have an intimate knowledge about what a person looks like and feels like when the lights goes out of their eyes. When they die. I want to know. Off the record. I have my reasons."
Randy was a nice man but he was a bit unintelligent by Harleen's standards. He might be nice, and genuinely be trying to be kind to Harleen given the situation she was healing from, but thats didn't make her like him. She had tried to like him but she didn't even find his appearance very pleasant. She also found him judgmental. She wasn't a fan of Jack Napier's round and round tactics but she knew there was something fascinating there. And she would find it even if she had to resort to his way of things and flay him to get to the truth underneath. Although, she highly doubted he had resorted to flaying someone to get to their inner truth.

Elisa
Elisa had been with one semi-serious boyfriend since she had last seen her brother. When it had came to sex with James, her boyfriend, she had made him leave the bedroom, then she had undressed in the dark, and gotten under the covers and then called him to come back in. She had never been too comfortable with her appearance unless she was fully clothed, Tate remembered that much clearly about her. Some of that came from the fact that she was a bit tubby as a child and even when she grew into her body, never became more secure with herself. She reached over and tickled Tate in the side, then she pressed her cold feet higher up on his warm legs.
"I hate wearing socks to bed. It just seems unamerican."
She said with a chuckle. When he said thank you she was taken aback. She looked at the ceiling and then glanced over at him in the dark, quietly.

Charlotte
"Well...Maybe you can be kind of a butch wife?"
She said with a smirk. Charlotte took a tissue and tried to clean up a little stray mark of nail polish from when Kiki's hand wiggled.
"Do you want your feet done too?"
She asked when she was done with the second hand. She picked up her glass and took a sip.
"These are almost two good to be allowed."
She said looking at the drink.
"I'm gonna drink you up."
She said softly to it, sometimes Charlotte busted out with something quirky and odd that would have been hard for the people at her office to imagine Charlotte Sims, attorney at law, saying.

OOC: This post was brought to you by Mass Effect.

Jayne
Yeah, think hard, you lunk.

Well, she certainly had a mouth on her. An attractive, heart-shaped human mouth to be sure, but whatever beauty may have existed died the moment it opened and words came out. The woman reminded her of someone else with an equally acerbic albeit more formidable tongue and Jayne could not help but wonder if this sour sport and The Pirate Queen of Omega might somehow be related. To her credit, Aria T’Loak possessed a small deal more of basic general courtesy, not that that was saying much.

Why Jayne should suddenly be reminded of the merc bitch of Omega was beyond him until something vaguely resembling a memory came to him from the previous night.

Bright pink, seizure inducing flickering lights. Electronica music. Half naked Asari gyrating on a suspended ring above the dance floor. And Jayne … dancing? Jayne rubbed his head. What the fuck happened last night? The only way Jayne would ever consent to dancing would be if he got black-out drunk which … certainly seemed to fall into accord with his present state of mind. Jayne glanced over at Soren, wondering if he had somehow convinced Jayne to buy a drink from the Batarian at the bar when more bits and pieces from the previous night started coming back to him.

He remembered now that they had been tracking a mercenary group rumored to have stolen a shipment of Red Sand and Creeper. It may have even been the Pirate Queen’s shipment that had originally been stolen, which might have explained why Jayne couldn’t get her ugly blue visage out of his head. “Was she the one with the drugs?” Jayne asked Soren, still evidentially fuzzy on the details. “Or is she the one that got me drunk?” Not that it would have been difficult. Jayne often drank while on the job. He often drank while off the job. Perpetually drunk was his general status at all times for the most part. “Or was that you?” He asked Soren skeptically, before laying back down the bench to keep his head from spinning. “And where in God's name are we? Prison? Hell? Didn’t Sarte say hell was other people? That would certainly explain why she is here.”

Soren
Vomit was the least offensive of things Jayne could’ve spilled forth from his many orifices. Soren weathered his expulsions with disinterest, raising his boots from the floor to avoid the pooling of his emesis, leaned back just in time to avoid the splatter that threatened to soil the persistent residual cleanliness of his last remaining shirt. Not that it really mattered in the end, his lingering grasp of the sanitary, after a few days they’d all reek of sweat and dirt and miscellaneous jail scum but he wasn’t in any hurry to sacrifice anything ahead of the game. Jayne was already a lost cause, stinking with his own stomach contents and expelling the remainder of alcohol in his system through his pores, calling to mind a delightful mix of batarian ale, partially-digested olives, and unidentified vermin meat even his omni-tool couldn’t discern the species of. Fortunately for him, he could breathe through his mouth for an extended period without difficulty.

While Jayne conducted his own internal battle for semi-consciousness and awareness, Kai decided to have a look around and evidently felt like thrusting her tiny ass in his face was a necessary step in that process. He took a cursory look, nothing he hadn’t seen before and nothing utterly worthy of note but meriting a brief peek all the same, before fucking about with his deadened omni-tool in hopes of sparking it back to life. Though embarrassingly lax, DC-302 marginally possessed a guard or two who recognized modern technology and thought to strip the battery packs from the internal computer microframe, rendering the device on his wrist little better than a high-tech paper weight. Fully powered it wouldn’t do much against the steel bars and reinforced doors, but he probably could’ve checked his e-mail. Perused his dwindling stock portfolio. Pulled up a cat vid or two to pass the time. Even pinged a comm buoy or two for word of that missing Red Sand shipment they’d been tasked with tracking down. Unfortunately for his limited attention span, all he managed to induce in his omni-tool was a pitiful shower of sparks and a flicker of orange light before… absolutely nothing.

He huffed out a breath of frustration. Jayne decided then it was finally time to come to grips with his sobriety and spoke up, asking a bevy of questions. “Beats me,” he replied to the first. “Beats me again,” he replied to the second. “There were asari strippers and my attention was preoccupied. But the next time you want me to question something you shove in your own maw, let me know. I’ve already learned from repetition not to blink at any mysterious liquids you consume to do battle with your handful of remaining neurons. No, it wasn’t me.” Soren aimed a haughty look Jayne’s way, the latest of a growing pile of ‘are you fucking kidding me’ expressions he tended to make and all for Jayne. “Because that makes total sense. All I remember is you drinking, drinking more, then deciding you wanted to join up with some Krogans and then there was a lot of head butting, cursing, and insinuations about what the best uses for head tentacles might be.”

Jack
Twenty six and wise beyond her years. Or rather, cynical beyond her years. Harleen Quinzel had apparently seen some shit. Whether he was supposed to empathize with her, regard her with a new level of respect or simply trust in the fact that age and experience were not always exclusive of one another, he cared not. Jack had asked her one question and the good doctor had given him two answers. She had slipped. He considered the first round of this arbitrary game he played to pass the time, his.

So he waited with all the patience of a man who only had time on his hands as Dr. Quinzel moved toward the door and sent her guard on a goose chase of an errand. Alone at last.

When Harleen returned, she was all feathers fluffed and quills standing on end, a creature trying to make itself look larger than it was in an attempt to scare off any would be predators. Jack did not doubt her threat and imagined a pen in Harleen Quinzel’s hand would have been dangerous on several different levels. He kept the fact that he was familiar enough with human anatomy to know how to kill someone with a paper clip to himself, and simply looked back at Harleen in silence. It did not take her long to get to her point. She wanted to know what it was like to watch a man die. Something in the quiver of her upper left lip suggested it was not a man but rather a specific man that she wondered after.

Jack’s expression matched the dull, humdrum walls around him as he contemplated her request.

When he felt a sufficient enough amount of time had passed to suggest the full weight of consideration had been given to her query, he spoke at last. “You are interested in the things that make a person tick. They’re motivations. The things that move them, inspire them, speak to them. You are not so much concerned with the actions themselves, but the why behind them.” It made sense. She was in a field that attempted to study the mind and behavior. Which motor neurons in the brain elicit muscular spasms? Which sensory receptors respond to which stimuli? Chemoreceptors and photoreceptors -- Thermo receptors and Nociceptors. All the things that made a man move his foot forward, feel pain or feel euphoria. She sought to understand all of that, not just the what and the how but the why.

“I am the same,” he explained at last. His decision made, he unfolded his legs and let them swing freely over the bed. “I am very interested in the why, Dr. Quinzel. Why are you so interested in a man’s last moments before death. Why ask me?” Jack’s smile did not make it all the way up to his eyes. “If you want my cooperation, I would know your reasons."

"Come, come, come, Dr. Q. Don’t hold anything back.”
