For Letty...

Name/Age: Christian Jenkins, twenty-eight
Role/Connection: Accountant, Did Not Get The Girl
Played By: Casey Affleck

TEAM SHORT POST AFTER THESE OBNOXIOUS INTRODUCTORY POSTS OR ELSE.

Christian Jenkins
Expense reports from their last tour were behind, though it was no fault of his own, the information had to be complete and in check by Monday morning. Even though it hadn't been his task to complete, Christian had taken the hit, as it was not like his spare time amounted to anything of important. But for his dog, he lived alone, and there was nothing new or unusual about his weekend habits, drinking in bars and taking girls home, that rated as anything remotely important. If anything, the Christian of late lived to work rather than the reverse, and tried to spend most of his time immersed in his job. Perhaps it was to avoid thinking of anything else, of someone else, but then the point would have been moot, having been told that the only other person in the building was of all people in the world, of all those who worked alongside him, of all the dancers in the entire company, Sydney Jordan.

At this point, the two had not spoken to each other in months. It seemed their relationship teetered back and forth for the last two years between casual conversation, the two talking from time to time about the days of old before they had left Richmond behind, and then months of nothing. The last time they had spoken (this time), Christian had made a vow to himself that almost eight years on, it was time to let go of her and move on. So he had stopped talking -- or maybe she had and he had just stopped looking for opportunities to talk to her -- and the two had fallen back into silence. He heard her name in passing from time to time, as their worlds did not necessarily need to connect even if they worked in the same building, so he knew every time she had gotten a new role, even when she had started dating the dreadfully boring brother of one of the other dancers, a lawyer. Or had he been a stock broker?

Christian tried to remember as little as he could so he could focus on everything anew without letting his mind wander to when he was nineteen and she came brand new from California with no prior knowledge of her maternal family. Just three weeks prior, Sydney sat but one seat away from him at a dinner party, separated only by her insufferable cousin Michelle, celebrating her grandmother Elizabeth's birthday back home in Virginia and said nothing to him the entire time. It did not go unmissed by the elder woman, who had stolen him away at first chance and questioned it, and Christian found himself unsure whether or not the emotion that crossed Elizabeth Donahue's face was relief or disappointment with even years of friendship between them. If anything, it was that look that had simultaneously bolstered his resolve in avoiding her at all costs, and led him to wonder if perhaps he had made the wrong decision and had not tried hard enough. Keys in one hand and briefcase in the other, he hit the light in his office, and then took off for the stairs at the end of the hall, going down two flights to the studios. Christian hoped she had already gone on her own accord but the music coming down the hall told him otherwise as he headed in the direction of the sound.

He had not meant to watch her for as long as he did, but once Christian laid eyes on her moving figure, he found himself relaxing into the doorway as the music and her body both continued on. Her eyes caught his in the mirror; instead of stopping immediately, of saying something to him, she danced on for a but a moment more before the spell was broken as she retreated to the far end of the studio. "Ten minutes to eight," he said, finding his voice, when she asked him what time it was, surprised the bigger question at hand was now how he had come to be the bearer of bad news. "James tried to wait for you to finish to lock up but tonight is his wife's birthday and he wanted to surprise her. I offered to hold the keys until then but the alarm automatically sets in ten minutes," his voice trailed off, glancing off to the side, down the hall to a darkening window. For a moment, his sole focus transferred from Sydney, still staring at him, to his dog, lying in wait at his apartment during his over-extended work day. "It seems we have come to an impasse. I can't leave until you leave but now we both have to leave. Your move," he said in a familiar tone, all at once daring and indifferent, as if he could not care what she chose to do with her time.

Lila
She supposed it was a fair question.

So why did I have to punch that guy?

It would have been her, asking Serena the same question, if her friend had been the one to ask her to punch someone. And yet, the reality was Lila did not have a very good answer to give her friend that did not seem as if the whole event was an over-reaction on her part. She was calmer now, driving a little slower and less erratically, and trying to find her center before she answered. "Well, he was being weird," she said in her defense, which was not at all untrue. Cro-Magnon Cretin™ had a reputation that preceded him; he was some loser who had wasted all of his money on the strip and couldn't be bothered to leave Las Vegas. He had come around before as his previous dealings with Eduardo had gotten him banned from the establishment altogether. Lila could recall with a small, smug smile to herself the sight of him being thrown out on the pavement and told not to come back. That satisfaction had been sorely absent when the creep cornered her at her car. "He tried to take my feathers," she hissed in disbelief, as if it was the strangest request she'd heard, but not even. "And then he asked to take me out, and of course, I told him that wasn't going to happen, and then, and then..."

"I didn't think you were going to hit him that hard!" Lila exclaimed, taking a side street to their favorite diner. She looked sheepishly at Serena, forever the bolder and more confident of the two, who would have handled the situation with a little less ... force ... if she'd been on the receiving end. "I'm not good with that stuff, unlike you."

Sydney Jordan
Ten minutes to eight. Never much one for being able to hold a poker face, the surprise showed plain as day in her wide blue eyes and she immediately moved to retrieve her phone, almost as if she did not believe he told it true. 7:50 indeed. And now 7:51. She glanced up apologetically, guilt mounting as he explained the reason for his still being here. It did not immediately strike her odd that they should be talking now after having gone on as long as they had without so much as speaking a simple ‘hello’ to the other, even when they had both traveled back to Richmond to celebrate her grandmother’s birthday. Then suddenly Sydney felt it most emphatically, as tended to be the case whenever she found herself alone with him. How odd it was to exist together in the same space, him often only two floors away, yet to feel as though they were complete and total strangers at times.

Only he would never truly be a stranger to her. She had once believed herself to be close to him, if only for a brief moment in time, some several years ago.

“It seems my move has already been decided,” she said at last, feeling the minutes tick away slowly. “Turn around,” she instructed at the next beat. He stalled in his confusion until a bemused smile cracked at the corner of her lips as she gestured to the dance attire she desired to change out of. Upon realizing her intent, he obliged her request and she in turn changed out of her dance clothes and into a maroon sun dress right then and there, not having the time to retreat for one of the changing rooms down the hall. She was still slipping a shoe over her foot mid-movement as she moved past him in the doorway and out into the dark hall. “I haven’t kept you from anything too important, I hope?” She asked breathlessly. It was her attempt at an apology, Sydney never being able to abide the idea that she might inconvenience another person in any way, shape or form. Even when that person was Christian Jenkins.

OOC: Will post Serena later

KAI BLUE
Admittedly, even her plans could take some unexpected turns. This was par for the course. What set the pros apart from the amateurs was how they dealt with those turns. For instance, yes, she was presently in a cell, locked away. Yes, the place was dark, and dank, and many of the surfaces looked as though they could leave you with pox if you even looked at them the wrong way. Of all the jail cells she had seen - generally on the other side of the door, frankly - this one was the rankest. Then, of course, there was the matter of present company. On one side, a young man she had never seen before he was brought in, a few hours earlier. All she had been able to discern, other than a strange sense of déjà vu, was that this one had seen the inside of a cell before, and more than one time... or five. And as to her other cellmate, well... He was sleeping off the night before, snoring loud enough she had expected for the bench to vibrate, giving no mind to her, or the world. He had been the reason for their shared incarceration, and for the poorly bandaged slice in her arm, along with a handful of other scrapes and bruises. She didn't sweat it. Cuts healed, bruises, too, and Jayne... Oh, she would see to it his end was a painful one.

None of this changed the fact that she was in a cell, and that her being there only felt like a setback. She was a pro, after all. She could get herself out. Before she could do anything though, she needed to become better acquainted with the third member of their group, to appraise whether or not he would need to be incapacitated - if not killed.

"When's breakfast?" she gave him half a look, unbothered.

Christian
She seemed genuinely surprised, and perhaps even mistrustful of what he told her, but when she retrieved her cell phone to look at the time, he could already see Sydney Jordan of the past coming to life before him. An apologetic smile, and then ... Christian rose an eyebrow quizzically when she told him to turn around, wondering what she was playing at, until she gestured in the direction of her clothing. He turned his back then and averted his eyes elsewhere but could not resist a quick glance in the mirror as she changed. The sight was enough to will his eyes elsewhere, remembering his vow, that it was time to hang up his hat and let it go. But somehow he was struggling now after being so firm in his resolve before; it was difficult when they slid into their old roles just like that, like nothing had ever changed between them.

But everything had, Christian knew, and nothing would ever be the same again.

"No," he acknowledged as she moved out in front of him, pausing only long enough to slide a shoe on her foot, and shook his head as the two began the walk down the hall. "I hope you haven't kept anyone waiting," the tone was all Christian, no business, and he waited for her to look him dead in the eyes before he continued. "Maybe Jason? Or is his name Justin? Emily's brother, the bore from the last dinner party. Elizabeth told me she was most pleased to hear you were dating now," his eyes glittered, daring her to say something, to call him on his bluff, but he doubted she was capable, no matter how much she had changed over the years. He pressed a button for the elevator, which came quickly, and he held the door open for her with a sweep of his briefcase.
