| | summer in a small town | A MYO Roleplay | Summer 2005, Ridgeland, South Carolina | "You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment." - Thoreau, Walden In "the heart of the Lowcountry" is nestled the agrarian town of Ridgeland, a prime example of American regionalism at it's best, an Edward Hopper landscape brought to life and flourishes with the friendliest folks, living in their Masonic homes with their white porches and lemonade pitchers which sparkle under the heat of the burning sun. A summertime in Ridgeland, living at the edge of lush wilderness and humanity, is a subtle experience which may not provide the same thrills as a roadtrip to South Padre Island, partying with your girlfriends and getting so drunk that you don't even remember your own name, but it leaves a mark which doesn't fade as an exciting memory, but rather becomes a part of the visitor, instilling a sense of being and belonging which will sty with you forever. At least, that's how the teenagers residing in Ridgeland felt that blistering summer. The heat wave, the daily trips to the lake, the fourth of July festival and lounging in the fresh-cut grass; each event was as important as the next. Every experience felt like it had happened for the first time; skinny dipping in the lake or attending the Sunday service. It was a small town, hardly a blip on the map and yet Ridgeland was the axis and the gravitation for the mixing of several lives both native of the mystical town and those from all across America who by happenstance, landed in the surburban wasteland. This is the story of the summer of 2005 and the teenagers who spent it in the heart of the Lowcountry, in the town of Ridgeland. | In A Nutshell | Essentially, there isn't a plot to this roleplay. Rather, there is a setting. A small American town which defines American existentialism, a simple town surrounded by nature. Lacking raves or shopping malls and instead providing simply joys like lakes and mountains, and just so people don't lose their mind - a very small movie theatre. Basically, you just make up some characters and explain why they are here. Perhaps they live here, it's their hometown. Perhaps for some reason or another they're staying there, they have relatives, their parents got a divorce, perhaps they are attending Hawthorne Academy's summer session, a prestigous private school located a mile outside of town on its own private territory where the students reside on dormitories. That's about it. Because there's no pre-planned problems, it's up to you to integrate your own drama using your characters. I'm leaving the plot up for loose interpretation hoping that it will thrive better because of that. Well, I am looking forward to summer, thus this RP was made! It's sort of based/inspired by Young Americans, but that's a bit... duh. | Rules | [+] boy/girl [+] take no more than six [+] four line posting minimum [+] get profiles in ASAP Girls Alexandra "Alex" Jennings | Alison Lohman | Dimaranwen Catarina "Cat" Monaco | Susan Ward | BraveGirl4Life Danielle Sherman | Mandy Moore | damnUNPRETTY Donna Rush | Michelle Williams | pianogrl1 Evelyn Nation | Virginie Leyoden | California_here_I_come Kathleen Pearce | Shannyn Sossamon | *Sarahrooie* Kennedy Michelle McCarthy | Nikki Reed | touteXseule Leah Mortensen | Cassie Steele | x*Brooke*x Loralynn McKellar | Jessica Alba | Broadway's Buffy Olivia "Livie" Westberg | Elisha Cuthbert | FAIT_Accompli Rebecca Ward | Shannon Lucio | In Fair Verona Shayne Musgrave | Katherine Isabelle | Excalibur Veruca Maloney | Evan Rachel Wood | DreamOn777 Virginia Haas | Emily Browning | In Fair Verona Boys Adam O'Reilly | Jesse McCartney | damnUNPRETTY Anderson "Andy" LeBrun | Emile Hirsch | In Fair Verona Dalton Haddon | Matt Czuchry | DreamOn777 Damien Phelps | Hayden Christensen | California_here_I_come Daniel Conway | Conor Oberst | *Sarahrooie* Fynn Thatcher | Quinn Allman | In Fair Verona Jess Kendrick | Trent Ford | Excalibur Landon Forbes | Riley Smith | FAIT_Accompli Rusty Floyd | Kevin Zegers | Broadway's Buffy Sebastian Ward | Hugh Dancy | Dimaranwen Travis Avery | Kyle Brandt | BraveGirl4Life Tommy Rawlings | Elijah Wood | pianogrl1 | Profile | Name: Age: Fifteen - Nineteen Hometown: Ridgeland or _______? Personality: Five adjectives. Background: As long/short as you want. Tell about family life, important events leading up to their present personality, milestones. Just don't make it a long and tedious snooze-fest. How's the Weather?: Their opinion of the town of Ridgeland, whether they've lived there all their lives or are just staying the summer. Hate it? Love it? Impartial? Summer Love: Their crushes. Not relationships. This will be TBA. TB: You PB: For once I'm not going to say "don't use people from OTH or the OC" because people like that sort of fit well in such an environment. My only request is that you don't recreate their show characters, meaning don't make Rachel Bilson a spoiled princess bitch thing, and same for Sophia Bush. Don't make Adam Brody a lovable nerd. What I will restrict is on AGE! Katherine Heigl, SMG, and Jason Behr won't make the cut. BOYS Name: Adam O'Reilly Age: Seventeen Hometown: Ridgeland Personality: Sweet, Nice, Musical, Fair, and Loveable. Background: Adam grew up in Ridgeland and has alot of friends. He befriends almost anyone he meets, even the new people to Ridgeland. His parents are rich and he gets almost anything he wants. He lives in the huge mansion on the hill. It just goes to show that even if you're rich, doesn't mean you're going to be snooty. How's the Weather?: He loves it in Ridgeland. He's got much love for his hometown. Summer Love: TBA TB: damnUNPRETTY PB: Jesse McCartney Name: Anderson "Andy" LeBrun Age: 17 Hometown: Athens, PA Personality: Prodigious, Tentative, Analytic, Demure, and Pensive. Background: Anderson LeBrun is the second son (of three) to Robert LeBrun and Valerie Evans LeBrun, an English professor and a homemaker, respectively. The LeBrun family has always valued their education, striving to make it a priority in the lives of the three boys. As the middle kid, Andy was always lacking in attention growing up and he had vowed to himself to do whatever it took to please his parents. It seemed as though the Lord had been listening to Andy when his elder brother by three years, Jimmy LeBrun, decided to go to the University of Texas on a basketball scholarship, abandoning his grades and academia to fulfill his dream of being a sports star. Needless to say, their father wasn't pleased at all and ever since Jimmy left for Texas they've hardly spoken a word to each other. Which left Andy in the limelight at the prime age of fourteen. He received excellent grades, won several academic awards, held the number two ranking, and was an ideal role model for his younger brother who had been tempted by middle school soccer. After three years of basking the glow of his parent's pride and glory, an interesting invitation presented itself. Andy was invited to attend the summer semester at Hawthorne Academy, a prestigous prepartory school. Though Andy didn't really want to spend summer in no-man's-land, his parents insistence and his desire to please them pulled through and the next thing Andy realized was that his suitcases were packed and he was travelling down the east-coast in a bus. How's the Weather?: Andy hasn't quite determined what he thinks of it. It's different from the suburb he grew up in, like a breathe of fresh air. Though he may not be in Tijuana with his so-called friends, Ridgeland isn't the worst place. There's always Aunt Marge's house in Baton Rouge, so Andy's not that upset. He realizes that it will just take some getting used to. Summer Love: At the present moment, the people he indentifies most with are his schoolmates Daniel Conway and Dalton Haddon, foreigners to this strange town much like himself. Andy's too tentative to get to know any of the actual locals. The guy at the gas station seriously scares him and the girls all seem to have a screw or two loose, they're all so free and spirited. His assumption of their behavior is most unfortunate, given that ever since he drove into town and laid eyes on Leah Mortensen, he's had it pretty bad for her. He doesn't even know her name, but he keeps hoping to run into her here and there, even if he'll never have the guts to talk to her much less look her in the eye. Because, she too, scares him in her own way. TB: In Fair Verona PB: Emile Hirsch Name: Dalton Haddon Age: Eighteen Hometown: New York City Personality: Mordant, Clever, Vexing, Fraudulent, Persuasive Background:Non one person comes to be a certain way without a great deal of events having shaped the present nature. It's classic therapist speak. No one becomes the person they are without outside forces greatly affecting them. And without facing the past events that have shaped them, one can not hope to achieve success and happiness in their life as hard as they might try. Dalton has surpassed many of his teenage peers along with a countless number of adults in this practice. He can pick out the exact events that led to him developing the personality traits he has. He can pick out the exact people who shaped him as a child. Denial and Dalton share four letters, but nothing more. Unfortunately, being able to pick out these events and characters has not helped Dalton in becoming the type of gentlemen society urges him to become. Dalton has been to enough therapists to know that much of his deemed 'inappropriate' behavior has come from the wonderful Haddons, a couple who share nothing but a rather larger apartment in New York, a summer house in the Hamptons, and various residences throughout Western Europe. Dalton's mother, Felicia Haddon runs a children's charity, but her motives and opinions are not those that would make her the next Mother Theresa. She is a rather cold woman with a shapely figured, once considered attractive when she was an upcoming supermodel, walking the runways in Milan. She still blames her widening hips on Dalton. Dalton's father, Gregory Haddon, is the heir of a multi-million dollar pharmaceutical company run by Dalton's grandfather, Mitchum Haddon. While Dalton can name several dozen complaints about his mother right off the top of his head, he can barely name a characteristic about his father none the less a complaint. His father is a figure head of the Haddon family, but holds absolutely no relation to Dalton besides being the sperm that created him. The man has barely been in the same room as Dalton for more than an hour, unless the room is host to a social gathering, which is fairly likely that it is. Dalton lacks loving parents, a comfortable living place where he can actually walk across the living room carpet with shoes on, and last but not least, an actual personal relationship. That's right. No close family ties. No blood brother friends. No first loves or second or third loves. And those trained therapists would also suggest that he lacks any direction in his life. It might be a reason the Haddons have sent him off to a boarding school for the summer instead of letting him just spend three months in Manhattan. But unknownest to all, Dalton does actually have direction in his life..a goal, a dream if you can call it that. His goal, to put it simply, is to be free of everything he's had to endure in the first eighteen years of his life. Let's hope the next eighteen years are considerably better. How's the Weather?: The town of Ridgeland is somewhat like his most recent 'girlfriend', Deirdre. Useless, boring, uneducated, unentertaining, but good for kicks. Summer Love: TBA TB: DreamOn777 PB: Matt Czuchry Name: Damien Phelps Age: Eighteen Hometown: New York, New York Personality: Artistic, Witty, Reserved, Optimistic, Loyal, and Trusting Background: Damien has had a pretty screwed up life. His dad and mom both were druggies and they were busted and sent to jail before Damien’s eight birthday. Damien was immediately sent to foster care, but after a year of no adoptions offers, they transferred him to a boy’s orphanage. Damien didn’t mind not being wanted, and he pretty much kept to himself as the years flew by. He never once resented his folks and he actually believes that seeing their mistakes helped him from making a lot of his own. However, when Damien does get a bit emotional over his situation, he paints, and everything bad goes away. Turing into nothing more than a swirl of colors on his canvass. Damien’s art is so good that after he was released from the orphanage on his eighteenth birthday he decided to follow the advice of one of his teachers there and use his talents in a small town. His teacher told him it would inspire him and Damien believes the exact same thing. How's the Weather?: Damien only just arrived in Ridgeland about a week ago. He finds it beautiful, but has no idea how long he’ll be staying. He’s a restless person and he figures summers end will be a good time to pick up his work and move it elsewhere. Summer Love: Damien doesn’t exactly have a long compelling list of friends, seeing as he just got here and all. However, he has formed a bond with a guy named Fynn Thatcher and is grateful he has someone to show him how this town works. As for the ladies, Damien has noticed Rebecca Ward. She’s breathtaking, but totally out of his league. The other girl he’s had an eye for, Veruca Maloney, is more his speed. She’s also humble from what Damien has gathered about her. Definitely someone he could enjoy spending time with. TB: California_here_I_come PB: Hayden Christensen Name: Daniel Conway Age: Seventeen Hometown: Milwaukee, WI Personality: Introverted, observant, secretive, apathetic, blunt. Background: Daniel Conway infuriates his father. Of course no one hates Daniel, but during the summer he tends to just be there, under the feet of everyone. Daniel Conway is an only child, the son of two very busy people. His mother hates leaving him at home with only his records for company, while his father simply despises the fact that his son even listens to records. He had always wanted a son who would play for a team, any team. A son who would bring home pretty girls and who would hide a copy of Playboy under his mattress, and not a battered copy of a Dickens's novel. That said Daniel does excel in one area that manages to bring pride to his parents. Daniel is considered somewhat of the boy genius, mainly because he spends a large amount of his time doing things that appear to be vaguely related to school. And so for the long summer, instead of letting his son rot away to nothing in his bedroom, his father suggested a summer semester at Hawthorne Academy. Daniel was neither overjoyed nor dismayed by this idea, but mutely agrees to it, knowing that his father was unlikely to allow Daniel to disagree with the idea. How's the Weather?: For Daniel Ridgeland is just a place, no different from any other. He's attempted to try and whip up feelings but nothing seems to come. Which does mean that he doesn't have any hatred for Ridgeland. It also means that there's nothing about it that excites him. It's just a dull, neutral place, unable to make Daniel feel anything about it. Summer Love: --- TB: *Sarahrooie* PB: Conor Oberst Name: Fynn Thatcher Age: Nineteen Hometown: Ridgeland, NC Personality: Alienated, Uncouth, Mundane, Desolate, and Taciturn. Background: Marilyn Eubanks and Trevor Thatcher were far from a match made in Heaven, and rather a match made in Kentwood, Lousiana at a southern wedding, in which Marilyn was a bridesmaid and Trevor was the banjo-player in a bluegrass band. A few bottles of Jack Daniels later found them in the top deck of a steamboat, where the entity that is now Fynn Thatcher began. After the discovery of her pregnancy, Marilyn, who was twenty-nine at the time, and Trevor, twenty-two, hitched a ride and eloped. Their travles ended in Ridgeland where they attempted to settle down, however without alcohol Marilyn and Trevor realized their incompatibility. When they tried it with alcohol, things went from bad to worse as Trevor's alcohol dependency kicked in and he became nothing more than a sitting toad in their tiny trailer. Marilyn, who now had a reputation for being quite the estranged wife, eventually enacted suicide. Fynn was two at the time though he hardly rememebers, his mother's reputation lives on, allowing the townspeople of Ridgeland to make assumptions and accusations about him as well due to his quiet nature. After seventeen years, Trevor Thatcher hasn't moved an inch from his sofa, nor shed a tear for Marilyn. The only liquid going near his body is a bottle of liquor. As for Fynn, he works at the local gas station, making him often subject to the rumors of the townspeople while he tries to barely make a living for himself and his father. How's the Weather?: Ridgeland is his home. Despite the alienation and the rumors and rude stares, Fynn holds no ill will towards the place. It's probably just because a few miles away from the busy intersection where the gas station is located is a secluded area with fresh grass, babbling brooks, and the sort of solititude you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else in the world. Summer Love: Fynn has never done human relations. The person he is most attached to is his father and that is simply because they happen to share the same blood and thus Fynn views his responsibility for his father as a moral action if anything. He's just doing what's right by him, because honestly he has no sentiment for the man. Nor anybody in a town where most people regard him as some sort of a freak or monster. There was a time when Fynn tried to be polite and friendly, however after having it thrown in his face long enough he's learned to keep quiet - which is another thing the townspeople love to use against him as they refer to him as a mute behind his back. As far as the new arrivals in town go, the only positive thing Fynn has noticed is that ever since Alexandra Jennings arrived the townspeople have had somebody new to talk about instead of him. TB: In Fair Verona PB: Quinn Allman Name: Jess Kendrick Age: Seventeen Hometown: Ridgeland. Personality: Distant, Skeptical, Disillusioned, Stubborn, Second-guessing. Background: Jess’ father Frank was a pilot who, before he met Sarah, led a playboy’s life complete with one-night stands and torrid flirtations. After his marriage and the birth of his son, Frank slowly started to slip back into that role. Sarah would often come home to find Jess doing puzzles or cleaning their modest apartment, her son repeating Frank’s message that he “had to work late again.” The only real time that he got his father’s undivided attention was when they were out, and some pretty young military girl was remarking how adorable Jess was. In these instances, the little boy would simply grow quiet while the conversation rattled on around him, since it was the closest thing to paternal attention that he seemed to get. A few months before Jess turned ten, a car accident left Frank in intensive care for several months and Sarah began working double shifts. Frank’s demeanor changed as he had to rely upon his son and wife during his recovery, his temper flaring at his inability to have the same amount of control over his life as before. Jess weathered most of these outbursts in stride, but finally erupted one late morning after Frank’s particularly selfish tirade about how no one cared about him after the accident. Jess shot back with a screaming declaration that he was doing his best, but that it sure was hard to pretend to want to take care of someone who never seemed to want to take care of him, because fathers were supposed to take care of their little boys, and not the other way around. After shouting himself hoarse, the ten year old’s figure abruptly faded into nothingness. Since that day he didn't make any effort to get close to his father, who soon returned to his old ways. How's the Weather?: Sometimes is rainy, sometimes is midly hot. It's a matter of habit more than anything else. He has lived all his life in Ridgeland but this doesn't means that he hadn't visualized his life out of the there. Some roots stay strongly attached to the ground though, so in the end it will become a matter of choice. Summer Love: TBA. TB: Excalibur PB: Trent Ford Name: Landon Forbes Age: Eighteen Hometown: Ridgeland, South Carolina Personality: Attentive, Candid, Dour, Respectful, and Temperamental. Background: It’s nearly impossible to get anywhere in town without having first heard the name Forbes, and even less likely that your presence will go unknown before you find yourself with a visit from the local, well revered, Sheriff. Sheriff Rodney Forbes is just one of many in a long line of Forbes Sheriffs. His legacy is by far the most controversial one however; littered with illicit indiscretions the townspeople have always been too fearful of calling out. Rodney considers himself a fair enough man, regardless. His methods are certainly questionable. Want to hold after hours poker games in the back room of your blues club? You’re free to do so, so long as Rodney gets in on a cut with whatever the house wins. Get in trouble with your mortgage payment? Rodney will gladly help you out, assuming you’ll jump when he tells you how high and precisely when. Selling cigarettes to minors? Again, there’s really nothing that can’t be resolved so long as the right price is issued. In return, Sheriff Forbes keeps order on the streets and keeps up appearances by showing up to banquets and ribbon cutting services. His corrupt nature has never been approved by his only son, Landon, who’s reservations with his father don’t match up well with the citizens of Ridgeland who simply adore him, most likely out of fear. But it’s one thing to fear the moment he’d walk through the door and another to live with the man. It’s safe to say that Landon wants nothing more than to be antithetical to his father’s image. How's the Weather?: Fairly hot, actually, but that’s nothing a dip in the reservoir nearby can’t fix. As for the town itself, Landon would probably like it more if every townsperson didn’t always greet him with ‘Say hi to Rodney for me, Landon,” every time he entered their establishment. It’d probably baffle most people to discover that Landon has absolutely no intention of following after his father in office, and plans to make his escape from Ridgeland as soon as both time and money permit. Summer Love: Landon never really thought much about her when she left town. His intrigue for Leah Mortenson was so well hidden, it managed to evade even him. Perhaps it was because he figured that since nothing changed in Ridgeland, she wouldn’t either. He didn’t have to see her, so long as her presence was there. “Distance makes the heart grow fonder,” isn’t that the expression? Its application would probably be appropriate in the situation that followed her departure. Suddenly, Ridgeland seemed more bleak, empty, and it took him a while to figure out that it was her Ridgeland was lacking. Her reappearance in the town was just as much of a surprise as was her departure, and the small town gossip that has accompanied it hasn’t gone completely unnoticed either. TB: FAIT_Accompli PB: Riley Smith Name: Rusty Floyd Age: Seventeen Hometown: Moved to Ridgeland this year, was born and grew up in Little River, SC Personality: Reserved, Romantic, Intelligent, Athletic, Well-behaved, Sheltered Background: Rusty was born to Arlene and Ricks Floyd. His mother, Arlene, died from complications after childbirth. All he knows of his mother is what he has seen in pictures. Growing up in Little River, he's your typical Southern boy. He enjoys to hunt, fish, ride his 4-wheeler, and he also plays sports. Rusty's family never had much money. In Little River, they lived with his grandparents, and now, living in Ridgeland, all they could really afford was one of the better-quality double wides that are available. Even so, Rusty is happy with what he has, and has never really wanted the finer things in life. Being new in town, he still doesn't know a lot of people, and hasn't really settled in yet. How's the Weather?: Rusty likes Ridgeland, he's just having trouble making new friends, and getting used to living in a new environment. Summer Love: TBA TB: Broadways Buffy PB: Kevin Zegers Name: Sebastian Ward Age: Eighteen Hometown: Ridgeland, South Carolina Personality: Ambitious, reserved, cruel, calculating, perceptive Background: The Wards are one of the more famous families within Ridgeland, since their ownership of the local, and pretty much only, diner makes them celebrities of sorts. Sebastian great-grandfather owned the diner; his grandfather owned it, and Sebastian is expected to own it someday. The chain, however, will end with Sebastian. He deviates from his family's 'destiny.' Sebastian worked hard throughout high school, determined to avoid his 'fate,' to put it in the most dramatic of terms. Most people consider Sebastian as separate from the pleasant family that runs the diner, since Sebastian is anything but pleasant and nice. He avoided any kind of attachment during high school, even friendships, in order to focus without distraction. He's built up quite a front. He's known for being, to put it bluntly, a bastard. Yet Sebastian doesn't really care what people think about him, since he'll leave this town and all the insignificant people behind him. How's the Weather?: Sebastian, although a native of Ridgeland, is hardly reluctant to leave it behind. He's had enough of small town life. Summer Love: Oh, didn't you know? Sebastian has the hots for every girl in this godforsaken town. Not. Sebastian has little interest in girls, and he has no problem telling them of his disinterest. First, he was 'too busy' for girls; now, he'll be leaving soon, so what's the point? He has avoided romantic entanglements for this long; it would be a shame to taint his record now. However, he has observed a few fine 'specimens' of the female race. But he would never name anyone specifically. He only hints at their existence. TB: Dimaranwen PB: Hugh Dancy Name: Travis Avery Age: 18 Hometown: Ridgeland,SC Personality: Athletic, Strong, Intelligent, Confident, Carefree Background: Travis is the oldest boy of Carolyn Mason-Avery and Carl Avery. He lives with his two younger brothers, Caleb and Eric, and his cousin, Jeff. His aunt and uncle died in a car accident six years ago and Jeff came to live with them ever since. Carl was the best wide receiver the high school had seen in years broke so many records that people called him the Miracle Man. Now Travis is trying to break all the records his father made and is currently training for a small Ironman competition being held at the end of summer in a town two towns over. How's the Weather?: He really appreciates Ridgeland and all the things he's been exposed to here but he wants to get out and explore a big city Summer Love: Travis is a very determined and focused young man. He knows what he wants and sometimes goes after it once he thinks it over one or two times. He has a good personality and loves life so that's why he has a lot of friends. His main friends happen to be Tommy Rawlings who keeps him grounded and is always there for him and Adam O'Reilly because he's sort of carefree like himself. As for the ladies, well...Travis is in training right now so he doesn't really have time for the ladies so he's choosing to keep his options open right now. If he finds a girl that will put up with his training then things might change but until then, they'll have to wait until after the Ironman competition. TB: BraveGirl4Life PB: Kyle Brandt Name: Tommy Rawlings Age: 18 Personality: Sweet, innocent, naive, friendly, loyal. Background: Tommy was born and raised in Ridgeland, and hasn't seen too much else in his life. The only child of the owners of a local diner, he's had a fairly idyllic life thus far. Instead of heading off to college, he's going to stick around town, attend a local community college, and work at his family's diner, where he'll probably be for the rest of his life unless something changes... How's the weather?: Tommy loves Ridgeland, but he's beginning to get a bit bored with it...he wonders if there's something more out there for him beyond the only world he's ever known. Summer Love: Travis Avery and Adam O'Reilly have been Tommy's friends since he can remember - the three of them have practically been the Three Musketeers, although he and Travis have a tighter bond than he does with Adam. He doesn't have a girlfriend or even a crush object at the moment, although if he met the right girl he'd definitely be open to the idea... | Name: Donna Rush Age: Nineteen Hometown: Los Angeles Personality: Sarcastic, sullen, abrasive, negative, rebellious. Background: Donna might appear to be a beautiful blonde girl, but she's had a difficult life. She's been abused by her alcoholic father since she can remember, and since her mother died before she was old enough to remember her, she's pretty much run wild for her entire life...and had enough adventures for a woman twice her age. She drifted from city to city after graduation, and somehow wound up in this small town for the time being, waiting tables at a local dive until she can decide what her next move should be. How's the Weather?: Donna actually likes the slower pace of Ridgeland more than the fast lane of L.A. She's not sure, though, how long she'll stick around...maybe just for the summer, or maybe she might settle here for a while longer. Only time will tell. | GIRLS Name: Alexandra "Alex" Jennings Age: Seventeen Hometown: New York City, New York Personality: Eccentric, dramatic, sensitive, temperamental, cynical Background: Alex can best be described as the antithesis of the typical resident of Ridgeland, South Carolina. Her hair is black; her mood is melancholy. She sticks out like a sore thumb amidst a sea of bleach blonde hair and optimism. Alex can attribute her inability to fit in on her parents, adding to the list of things she blames them for. Her parents sent her to Ridgeland to stay with her uncle and aunt for the summer. Their reasons are debatable; according to Alex, they were either too scared or too annoyed with their daughter to keep her around for another summer. The truth, although it can't be heard from Alex herself, is of a little consequence, at least to her. Her recent behavior prompted her relocation, a series of 'misdemeanors' that Alex never chooses to elaborate on. Why explain her presence if it's merely temporary? Alex doesn't plan on staying in Ridgeland very long. Even if her parents decide not to send for her until after the summer, Alex has plans to leave way before then. How's the Weather?: She can't even begin to describe how much she hates the town. She doesn't fit in; she wants to go back to New York where her appearance was actually more of a breath of fresh air then probable cause for a heart attack. Summer Love: Alexandra hates this town, and pretty much everyone in it. So chances are, even if she had a crush, she would dye her hair blonde and take up cheerleading before telling anyone. But there are a few different individuals in Ridgeland that have caught her eye, notably Fynn Thatcher and Olivia Westberg. They seem different, and Alexandra is begging for a little deviation in the picture perfect town. TB: Dimaranwen PB: Alison Lohman Name: Catarina *Cat* Monaco Age: 18 Hometown: Providence, Rhode Island Personality: Intelligent, Introspective, Optimistic, Softspoken, Amicable Background: Catarina is the middle child of Lucia Jonesfield-Monaco and Roberto Monaco. She's grown up in a middle-class two parent home all her life with her older sister, Mariana, and her little brother, Ellis. Everything was going pretty well up until five years ago when her grandmother, Constance, delivered some shocking news that would change her life forever. At a routine Sunday dinner, in which the entire family gathered once a month. Constance pulled Lucia aside into another room. She told Lucia that she was not her mother. She had adopted her when she was six months old. She was not a Jonesfield, she was a Mansfield from Ridgeland, SC. The Mansfields were one of the richest families in Ridgeland and their daughter, Amelia, had gotten pregnant as a teenager. This was a disgrace on the family name so her father insisted that she give the baby up. After finding all this out, Lucia was devestated. The only family she had known her entire life was in fact not her family at all. She told her husband and children that night and they all grieved with her. The next day, Lucia started working on a way to contact Amelia in hopes of meeting her. It took about a year for her to get to Amelia and she was grateful to hear from her long lost daugther. She quickly invited Lucia's family to the Mansfield estate in Ridgeland but Lucia declined thinking she was not prepared to come face to face with the woman that gave her up so long ago. Finally this year, after Amelia had invited them for the fifth time for the summer, Lucia gave in and said they would come to Ridgeland for summer vacation. Cat's entire family has come with her mother to meet their new family. How's the Weather?: So far, so good is Cat's opinion of Ridgeland. She thinks that the Mansfield's estate is way too huge for the few people that live in it but she likes it all the same. She hasn't been to the town on her own so she hasn't had time to explore on her own yet but what she's seen as of yet, she likes. Summer Love: Although new to town, Cat has had quite a few people beating down her grandmother's door to come and meet one of the new granddaughters of the Mighty Mansfield blood line. She politely said hello to everyone as her Grandmother Amelia introduced them all to her and tried desperately to remember the names of all the people she did meet. She did remember a few though because they particularly stood out to her. Evelyn Nation was one of them. She immediately had taken a liking to Cat and Cat returned the favor glad to have found a solid friend that she could talk to now that she was spending her entire summer in Ridgeland. Another name she remembers is Danielle Sherman mainly because of her sweet nature and peepy personality. She shared a lot of laughs with Danielle the night she met her and it made her feel at home instantly. Unfortunately, Cat hasn't been to town much because her grandmother has servants and the like to get whatever they need so they don't have to do anything but sit on their butts and twiddle their thumbs. However, Cat does have a window and she's not blind nevermind that she has an awesome view of the town from her window. And thanks to her grandmother she knows a little about every person she has inquired about in town. She was more curious about Jess Kendrick which her grandmother has said had a very difficult life and not the best manners which equalled not good enough for one of her granddaughters. Cat also asked about Tommy Rawlings which her grandmother told her was a nice boy but hardly someone to get her knickers in a twist about. Cat will just have to see about all that. TB: BraveGirl4Life PB: Michelle Williams Name: Evelyn Nation Age: Seventeen Hometown: Ridgeland, SC Personality: Irritable, Tantalizing, Calculating, Adventurous, Confident, & Stubborn Background: Evelyn’s life can be defined as normal. Nothing more, nothing less. She was born an only child and has grown up with two wonderful parents coaching her through life’s struggles. Evelyn was a fairly friendly girl up until age fourteen. Fourteen being the age she began high school. As soon as she walked into her first period class she was deemed popular by the upperclassmen. Why? Well, because of her confidence and more importantly, looks. Evelyn got so wrapped up in the praise she was receiving that she thought she might as well go all the way to the top and become Head Cheerleader. She accomplished this her Junior year. So, it’s safe to say that Evelyn pretty much dominates the school. She’s intimidating and to many she comes off as a bitch. Yet, everyone still worships her. She’s kind of just one of those people you love to hate. Truthfully, people wouldn’t have a reason to hate Evelyn if they ever sat down and talked to her. She’s merely playing a part. On the inside, she’s just about the most spectacular human being to ever exist. However, it’s going to take a lot to break down the walls she’s built to get to the real her. Maybe someone will be able to do that at Hawthorne Academy, which she's attending this summer. Yes, Evelyn is very school oriented. She's proud of it too. Not everyone gets to say they have gone through high school with a 4.0. How's the Weather?: People all around think Evelyn loves Ridgeland. Everyone there treats her like royalty so they think she has no reason to want to leave…they’re wrong. Evelyn wants more than anything to break free of this lame old place she refers to has home. She wants to explore the world! Summer Love: Evelyn has a great number of people seeking her attention. Everyone strives to be her friend, but she knows it’s not because they are interested in her. All they’re interested in is popularity, and they know they’ll get it if Evelyn accepts them into her clique. However, very few people are allowed that honor. Right now, only two other girls reside in the top spots with Evelyn. They are Kathleen Pearce, the opinionated rebel like girl that Evelyn has grown to respect and admire over the years….and Catarina Monaco, the beautiful new girl who won Evelyn over with her eye for fashion the first night she arrived in town. It's safe to say Catrina has filled the void left when Evelyn's ex-best friend, Rebecca Ward, left their group. Her excuse being that life was too important to waste on popularity. Evelyn, of course, knows she's right. But Unlike Rebecca, Evelyn is way too scared of breaking out of her comfort zone. Now, time to discuss the guys. Evelyn could get any male she wants (she’s pretty much had everyone in the town), but right now she has her sights set on Daniel Conway. He’s smart, shy, and drop dead gorgeous. Evelyn has also been noticing Sebastian Ward more lately. He’s a mystery to Evelyn and to her, that’s what sexy is all about. TB: California_here_I_come PB: Virginie Ledoyen Name: Kathleen Pearce Age: Nineteen Hometown: Ridgeland, SC Personality: Unrealistic, elusive, opinionated, eccentric, hostile. Background: The Pearce family proudly claim that there's in the fourth generation to live in Ridgeland. And for some reason this is a reason for great pride amount the entire family (because yes most of the Pearce family live in Ridgeland). They have their perfect small town lifestyle, and Kathleen's parents have their perfect children. At least they had their perfect children. Somewhere alone the way the latest generation got a little confused. Which is why Kathleen's older cousin Samuel ran away to join the circus. And her younger sister shocked the town by announcing that she was actually a little bit gay. These are things that the Pearce family could do without, because they're just your perfect small town family. They don't want their family to be the fodder for the town's rumours. That said, they also don't want to disown said family members, which is why Samuel was dragged kicking and screaming back from Atlanta (which was as far as he'd got) and also why Kathleen herself remains in Ridgeland, even during the summer. There was talk of shipping her off to her great aunt, one of the few family members who lives outside Ridgeland. Kathleen that realised that her great-aunt lived in a town not that different from Ridgeland. Which is why that plan was dropped. Kathleen wants to see Paris, heck, she'd be happy to see Florida. But no, the Pearces don't travel well, and Kathleen certainly can't be let loose on the country by herself. So she says here, slowly dying inside. How's the Weather?: Kathleen is the sort of girl who pins maps of cities in the world to her bedroom wall, a girl who dreams of bigger things than pretty little towns in South Carolina, which according to Kathleen do nothing but suck the soul right out of a person. Kathleen wants to be in an environment where she can slowly disappear, when she can cut off all her hair without people raising an eyebrow and commenting on what a strange little girl the 'Pearce girl' is. Yes, some people might wish to live in a town where everyone knows your name, for Kathleen it is enough to drive her slowly insane. Which is why she'll happily tell anyone she meets how much she despises her home town, and why there's a little tin under her bed marked 'get out of Ridgeland fund.' Summer Love: --- TB: *Sarahrooie* PB: Shannyn Sossamon Name: Kennedy Michelle McCarthy Age: Seventeen Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky Personality: Sarcastic, fun, rebellious, rocker, independent Background: Kennedy was raised in Louisville Kentucky with her mom. She never really got along with her father so she didn't really go see him much. However, this summer she's in Ridgeland, visiting her dad. She has ulterior motives for that though. Her mother is in rehab for alcoholism. Kennedy hasn't let anyone know that. She just showed up randomly in the beginning of the summer and started staying with her affluent father. She's used to living in a small two bedroom apartment in the Portland area of Louisville, which is pretty much the crappy area. She's not used to money or even a back yard. She's a pretty private person and an only child. How's the Weather?: Kennedy doesn't really know whether or not she likes Ridgeland. She hasn't had time to make that decision. Summer Love: Being the new girl, Kennedy hasn't managed to find any friends or relationships yet. But she has noticed someone while exploring the town. She saw Jess Kendrick and he struck her interest. She's yet to talk to him but can't help but be intrigued with him. Another one whose caught her eye is Flynn Thatcher. She thinks that he's cute in a way that is rare in small towns. As for friends, she hasn't really met anyone yet. TB: touteXseule PB: Nikki Reed Name: Leah Mortenson Age: Seventeen Hometown: Ridgeland Personality: Matriarchal, Independent, Opinionated, Introverted, Polite Background: Tommy Morentson was a uptight pretty boy that showed off his money by the clothes he wore. Though he soon fell pity on Anne Natlick, who was a partying cutter. He fell into her trap as trying to save her, and bring her into the light. He's done everything for her, and people find it amazing that a guy can fall so deeply in love that he'd waste his entire life on her. Waste. That was exactly what he did, and he's still doing it. After getting married, becoming a father, and paying so much specialists to try and fix her on-going depression. Leah grew up having her life revolve around her mother, like her own fathers was. But the stress was too much for her caring and always-loving father as he had a heart attack at only 45. The duty of care-taker was passed on to her, but after a year her grandparents forced her mother into going to rehab, or at least live with her own parents. Leah was taken to her grandparents as quickly as she could utter the word "Mom!". But in the new town since her mother stole most of the attention Leah started upraising havoc just to get herself noticed. Her grandmother noticed Leah's actions and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. She got Leah a plane ticket back to Ridgeland, and got her a proper single aparment for the summer. How's the Weather?: She's never been happier to be back, but with a whole new perspective. Though she hears wispers about her from the adults, ones that involve her and her mother being compared. She loves the peaceful feeling of Ridgetown in the morning, where you can sip coffee and watch the birds chirp. But its like first love, pretty soon reality kicks in and all you've got is the same scenery. Summer Love: You could call Leah a bit boycrazy, not to the point where she actually dated alot of boys but to the point that she had a new crush every week. Though two stand out, Sebastian Ward is the jackass who's reputation makes him stand out. He keeps things interesting, and you know you'd never get bored. The other would go by the name Landon Forbes, whose so drop dead gorgeous that every normal girl would have a crush on him, Which makes him above her in so many ways... Other than that, theres a cutie Andy LeBrun, but even she's not sure how long that little observation will last. According to her, Landon Forbes should be extremely proud if he found out he was her longest crush. TB: x*Brooke*x PB: Cassie Steele Name: Loralynn McKellar Age: Nineteen Hometown: Ridgeland Personality: Reckless, Spontaneous, Alluring, Seductive, Personable, Passionate Background: Loralynn grew up with a Mother who was an ex-Southern Beauty Queen and a Father that drank too much. She grew up wealthy, with every luxury a girl could dream of. When her parents got divorced, her father moved to Charleston, and she would have done anything to go with him. Now, living with her single Mother, she is being pressured into staying at home. Her mother does not want her to leave, in fear that she will be left all alone. Loralynn wishes she could get the support from her mother to go out there and do something more with her life. How's the Weather?: Loralynn has lived here her entire life, and she can't wait to get out. Her dream home is an apartment in New York City. She was never cut out for the country life. She loves her friends here, and to her, the town does have its charms, but she has dreams that are bigger and better than Ridgeland. Summer Love: TBA TB: Broadways Buffy PB: Jessica Alba Name: Olivia “Livie” Westberg Age: Eighteen Hometown: Baton Rouge, Louisiana Personality: Analytical, Empathetic, Honest, Melancholy, and Perceptive. Background: Livie saw her parents’ divorce coming long before they chose to confront it themselves. The formula was there. Commonplace fights over finances and budgeting escalated over the most trivial of things such as silverware and detergent. Livie’s father was spending nights later at the office and Livie’s mother compensated for her lonliness with a bottle of SKYY and a carton of Ben and Jerry’s. Soon, her mother didn’t even care that her father wasn't coming home some nights. Even the passionate fighting dulled to a static hum. The marriage was dead by the time Livie was fifteen. When her parents announced they were splitting up, there was nothing left to do but blink. “Well, it’s about time” was what she thought. Still ignorant of Livie’s long acceptance of their broken unit, Livie has been sent off to spend the summer with her aunt before her freshmen year of college. The idea is that it’ll make the transition easier. Easier for who, Livie has yet to figure out. She’s not the one parting with half her belongings. How's the Weather?: Livie would have preferred to be completely removed from the south, but she’s hardly complaining about the situation. There’s fresh air and home cooking to look forward to. She’s really getting the better deal in the end. Summer Love: Olivia Westberg has a problem. She falls in love too easily. But her attention span is a lot like her mother, short, temperamental, and flighty. Olivia latches onto a piece of every person she meets. She admires Kathleen Pearce’s anger; if she could capture just a pint of the fuel that ignites all her hostility, Olivia imagines she could make something of her own anger instead of avoiding and oppressing it. And then there’s Virginia Haas, who’s mysterious and elusive. Olivia wants nothing more than to be able to crack her open and revel in all the secrets she can only imagine Virginia has. Or Alexandra Jennings … she’s like the abandoned, abused puppy dog, lost, and Olivia wants to find her. And still, there’s more. Olivia doesn’t specify her sexuality, and one could argue she doesn’t love any one person, but life itself. She’s even intrigued by a few members of the opposite sex, namely, Dalton Haddon, Sebastian Ward, Fynn Thatcher. Each “bad” in their own ways, each undeniably attractive, and each worthy of further inspection if only she could make up her mind long enough to choose one long enough to actually do it. TB: FAIT_Accompli PB: Elisha Cuthbert Name: Rebecca Ward Age: 17 Hometown: Ridgeland, NC Personality: Manipulative, Fake, Persuasive, Meticulous, and Desperate. Background: The Wards preceed their reputation, known even by tourists as the sunny family running the local diner. For the most part, they are. Ever since Rebecca was fourteen she's been working as a waitress there, and her sunny personality had won her presitigous high school awards like Homecoming queen and Miss Ridgeland. However, a few years ago, upon observing her brother, Rebecca realized his escape plans. After seeing his desperation to leave, she began to realize that Ridgeland wasn't such a great place and that there was so much more out there. Rebecca blames her brother for disrupting her blissful ignorance, but more importantly, for actually trying to abandon and leave her here. If he left, it was obvious that the diner would be shoved into Rebecca's hands and now she no longer wanted it. Her brother had indirectly corrupted her and filled her with an underlying malice. However, she plans to get the better of him. Rebecca plans on getting out of Ridgeland too but she's not going to work her ass off in school to go it. Her plans involve finding one susceptible visitor during the summer, somebody whom would easily be able to take her away from this place forever at the end of the summer. How's the Weather?: At first Rebecca adored the town which named her their princess, who seemed to adore her. Then she realized that this was a rather possessive nature and her feelings towards a town and family which were trying to supress her behind the guise of love have engendered bitter feelings in regard for Ridgeland. Summer Love: Rebecca has been keeping a list of all of the boys which have attracted her interest since she was in the eighth grade. It used to be an awfully short list, limited only to those few teenage boys attending Ridgeland High, and only those good enough to pass her standards. Those lists have been scrapped, either because she's been through them or, more importantly, she's not looking for the same thing anymore. Rebecca knows exactly what she has in mind, and that would be an new visitor from an exciting place, and not to bad on the eyes either. With those requirements in mind, her latest prospect has been found first and foremost in a Mister Dalton Haddon, and if all fails Daniel Conway shoud be an easy back-up boy. TB: In Fair Verona PB: Shannon Lucio Name: Shayne Musgrave Age: Seventeen Hometown: L. A. Personality: Introspective, Curious, Frank, Open-minded, Moody. Background: One snowy December afternoon, the Musgrave boys learned that they had a little sister. Austin was unimpressed, Cody feigned lack of interest, and Zeke nearly exploded with joy at the news. After a few days of hospital visits, the boys got to see their baby sister come home with their mom, and life was pretty good. Despite her brothers’ overprotective nature, Shayne managed to have a pretty normal social life. She made friends, she joined the pom pom squad, she joined the French club, and she joined the softball team. Four weeks after her thirteen birthday, Shayne sat sobbing into Zeke’s shoulder in the hospital. She’d been home, studying for a history exam when the phone rang, the voice on the other end asking for her father. Shayne remembered watching her dad’s face go ashen as he heard the news, Cody insisting that he drive them, and then nothing until that cold room in Zeke’s lap where she sat crying. She didn’t remember the doctor who explained the crash, the EMT who caught her dad when he fainted, or the nurse who gave her a box of tissues. She remembered the wake and funeral clearly, and she remembered standing on shaky legs to give the eulogy. Shayne delivered the eulogy in letter form, starting out with “Dear Mom,” and ending with, “Miss you.” Far from dry-eyed, she did manage to keep smiling until she got home and found a blue Wal-Mart bag lying in the back of the pantry. Shayne did her fair share of mourning, and was sent to spend the summer with her aunt in Ridgeland. This would be Shayne's third visit to town. How's the Weather?: She has not been here in two years but she still appreciates the memories of Ridgeland. It's a calm place to spend a few months with people leading slower lives. The only baddy of all this is the fact that her aunt makes Shayne wake up everyday at midnight (actually it's at four a.m.) to start aiding with the house shores, but aside from that, she still has enough free time to spend outdoors during the rest of the day so she doesn't complain. Summer Love: TBA. TB: Moi. Me. Yo. Excalibur. PB: Katharine Isabelle Name: Veruca Maloney Age: Sixteen Hometown: Ridgeland Personality:Inquisitive, Well-read, Unpretentious, Ardent, Tolerant, Objective Background: Besides her name, everything about Veruca Maloney seems typical and small town-y. She has the girl next door looks with her long blonde curly hair and blue eyes. She has the boyish slim figure and lanky arms. She wears little makeup and lives in American Eagle Outfitters and Delia's clothes. At first glance, Veruca seems to be just like every other teenage girl. But there's a reason her name is Veruca. There's a reason her parents named her Veruca. They knew she was destined to be an unusual girl with great things in her future. Normally this isn't an uncommon thought for new parents with a beautiful baby. But in Veruca's case, her mother knew that Veruca's future was not just a new parent's daydream. Why? Well Leslie Maloney is psychic…or at least she believes she's psychic. It's an odd story, not one Veruca shares at parties most of time. Veruca's father, Adam Maloney was a native born son of Ridgeland and was known around town. His dad ran a local diner, his mom was an English teacher, and Adam was fairly good kid who although he barely got any A's, was a member of virtually every Ridgeland High sports team. On spring break during his senior year at Ridgeland High, he went with a friend to Boston where he met an eccentric wild child college junior, Leslie Cross. She saw him at a college party and according to the story she tells, she knew she'd have a connection to him. It's either a wacky example of her psychic powers or a romantic point. She came up to him and they started talking and before long they were jumping into bed. The next morning, she got this odd feeling and told him he would injure his leg and never play sports again. He went off thinking she was crazy, but before the year was finished, he was injured, off the sports team, and in danger of not going off to college. That's how he ended up in Ridgeland for the rest of his life. He ran into Leslie a few years later when she was passing through Ridgeland and they fell in love, got married, and had Veruca. But anyway, back to the story of Veruca herself, Leslie saw held her for the first time and got this so called 'psychic' vision that told her Veruca would go on to be intelligent and do great things and that she had to have a name that was so unusual that it embodied everything the baby girl was. That's how Veruca became Veruca. She's slowly eased her way into the name. She dreams of bigger and better things, but makes sure never to talk about her dreams too much. She loves Ridgeland and for some reason, has this idea that she'll end up in Ridgeland for the rest of her life instead of following her dreams. Call it paranoia or maybe the psychic dream gets passed down from mother to daughter. Who knows. How's the Weather?:Veruca is aware that most of her fellow Ridgeland peers are not fond of the town and want more, but Veruca really does love the town. It's her home and she likes that she knows how everything is.It never changes which is always comforting. She's one of those people who openly voices her love for the town. But beneath that happy go lucky love for the town, lies her inner desire to get out of Ridgeland because even if Veruca loves the town and thinks of it it as home,we never wants to end up there.Never. Summer Love: TBA TB: DreamOn777 PB: Evan Rachel Wood Name: Virginia Haas Age: Sixteen Hometown: Detroit, MI Personality: Loyal, Melancholy, Passive, Benevolent, and Disillusioned. Background: Virginia Haas was the second daughter born to Alexander and Ellen Haas; high school sweethearts who dislike sharing the inner details of their relationship and past, thus it shall not be mentioned. Essentially, they're boring and haven't thought up a decent lie to tell as of yet. Virginia had always grown up in the shadow of her elder sister, Haylie, a tall and striking brunette with a mature figure and exceeding talent in all trades. Her triple threat Homecoming queen sister was always turning heads and taking attention, leaving Virginia in the shadow. Not that Virginia ever minded, she had long accepted her place and was quite allright with hiding the shadow rather than being blinded by the light. However, Virginia Haas' perception of herself was altered when she met Nathan Terrell, a new student transfer from New York. He was the first person to pay attention to her, and it struck something in Virginia. Though, we won't dramatize, by no means was it love at first sight. If anything it was just slow progression into an even slower and typical teenage relationship. They began as friends, sharing their interests upon books, movies, and upon the world. It wasn't just their tastes that allowed them to bond, at times Virginia had the thought that pershaps she and Nathan were the same person, just trapped in different bodies. The intimacy of their relationship grew due to such pondering, and Virginia's theory either drove them to unite or it was tossed out the window for more appealing theories. Regardless, in the end at the ripe age of Fifteen, Virginia sealed her relationship with Nathan by allowing him to be her first. Highly inexperienced, Virginia didn't think about the repurcussions. After discovering that she was pregnant, and from a boy with which she wanted nothing more but fireside discussions, Virginia had an abortion, expecting to hide it from her parents, who seemed too preoccupied with her sister, until the time was right. However, four months after the abortion her father had put together the missing puzzle pieces and had figured her out. Virginia is by no means a bad kid, however a large mistake appears to have altered her life forever. To keep Virginia away from the troublesome Nathan (whom she wasn't planning to see anymore anyway, it wasn't as if they were soulmates), her father sent her to spend the summer with her grandparents in Ridgeland. How's the Weather?: It's not that Virginia dislikes Ridgeland, it's just that she dislikes the situation she's in. Virginia is anything but hateful but there are definitely bitter feelings beginning to surface. The fact that she's stuck in Ridgeland, miles away from her friends, when she wasn't planning to be with Nathan again is a little unnecessary. If this experience somehow benefitted her, she might be able to understand but her parents have definitely gone overboard this time, especially when her sister is at home wreaking havoc right under their noses. Sigh. Summer Love: Virginia Haas? Like a boy in this forsaken town? After having "boys" be the reason she's here in the first place, Virginia is in no hurry for another. In fact, she's sworn them off for a good time, the entire summer in fact. Plus, Virginia has no interest in any boy from around Ridgeland, they all have to be mental, given the way they were raised here. Even if they are as good looking as your Landon Forbes and Sebastian Wards, they're all quite likely to be insane. At least, that's how Virginia sees it. A stranger to the town like her would be much easier for her to identify with, but all she's looking for in such is an understanding friend and somebody to endure this suffering with her. Every summer since then, her and her brother and sister have went to Ridgeland to visit their mother. How's the Weather?: She finds that for the most part, the people in the town are fairly welcoming. But she would never be able to give up big city life to move to a small town as Ridgeland.
