I’ve never seen Firefly, but I’ve seen Serenity three times already. Yes, I know that I’m a loser so you don’t have to remind me. In my world, Tess never killed Alex. In fact, Alex is alive and well but he isn’t in this RP. The Royal Four went to Antar like they were supposed to at the end of season two, leaving their human friends and loves behind. Inara decided to stay with her friends aboard Serenity.

Tess Harding, Michael Guerin, and Max and Isabel Evans are the reincarnated rulers of a planet called Antar. They spent a good amount of time on Earth, making connections with the families who adopted them and with friends whose lives were changed forever simply by knowing the four aliens.

Tess became pregnant with Max’s child, a little boy, and found that the child couldn’t survive on Earth because of the atmosphere. Max decided that they should all go home and, even though they were very sad about leaving their human counterparts and families, everyone else agreed that it was for the best.

Antar wasn’t what the four of them expected it to be. Max was no longer recognized as king. In his place was a cold and evil ruler named Kivar. Kivar planned the executions of the royal four and the baby boy Tess carried. Luckily, they were rescued by a group of misfits and their ship called Serenity.

The royal four are no longer royal. They are expected to earn their keep aboard Serenity like ordinary people.

I reluctantly cut Wash from the cast and took Kaylee. Now Zoe and Simon are all that's left. Once we get those spots filled we can START!!

Since the girl I PMed to play Zoe hasn't yet responded, I will say that Zoe, despite her loyalty to Serenity and those on board, has left for some away time. We'll start veeery soon.

Just when he thought that things would be calming down, four mysterious individuals had boarded Serenity. Simon imagined that his feelings were similar to those of the crew when he and River boarded.

They were aliens, or hybrids with human form but alien cellular activity. Being fascinated with all things related to anatomy and medicine, it was no surprise that Simon loved this chance to learn more about someone totally different like the four hybrids. One of them, Tess, was pregnant. He couldn’t help but wonder how the birth would go. It was amazing to be witnessing something completely new from all that he’d studied while becoming a physician.

River

River kept to herself in her quarters. She’d come upon some sort of gadget that was common to humans who’d lived on Earth roughly five hundred years before the present time. Simon had called it a ‘Rubik’s Cube’. It was supposed to be a puzzle that only the smartest of the smart (or lucky) could solve. She’d twisted it and mixed up the colors several times but each time she did that she was able to solve it.

It bothered River that there was nothing constructive to do right then. She wanted to help especially since Serenity had lost two of its crew - two people that, even though it didn’t seem like it, River cared for.

The one was Zoe. Zoe’s personality puzzled River a bit. It wasn’t that she couldn’t understand why Zoe acted hard, professional, and untouchable. It was that being around Wash, their now deceased friend and pilot, seemed to make her soft and even a little vulnerable. The human mind was so complex and fascinating to River. Personalities and thoughts were just chemicals and electric pulses sent from one nerve to the other… That was all understood. What River had yet to understand was the concept of a soul. She believed that most living beings possessed one, although she didn’t entirely understand what it was.

River crept with the steps of a prima ballerina out into the hallway, searching for something constructive and useful to do.

Tess

She’d been waiting her entire life on Earth to go back to Antar. Nasedo had told her so much about it and her role as the planet’s beloved queen. She often wondered about the details, though. Did kings and queens wear crowns? Did they wear anything at all? Tess wondered about the simplest things and wondered if she would ever get the chance to go back to their home planet.

It seemed that with Max, Michael, and Isabel so closely attached to human beings in Roswell she would never be able to convince the others that they needed to go home. Then something happened. After their midnight tryst under the stars, Tess became pregnant with Max’s child. She thought it was romantic, but he seemed preoccupied worrying about the consequences. It made Tess bitter that, even when she was with his child, Max only cared about how Liz would react. She still hadn’t gotten over that.

So much had happened since then… Now she was on board a ship with criminals and a crazy young girl. She never could have predicted that happening.

Tess wandered around the ship aimlessly, every so often putting her hand to her belly with a smile. She loved her son so much already and he hadn’t even been born yet. Tess just assumed that was normal for a mother.

I wiped the oil off of my hands, trying to make my appearance halfway decent as I approached Simon. He seemed deep in thought, and slightly startled when I tapped him on the shoulder. "Sorry.." I said with a sheepish smile. "Didn't mean to startle you..something on your mind?" I asked him. I knew that it must be our new visitors aboard Serenity. They seemed to be on everyone's minds at the moment. I didn't really think about it too much, they all seemed perfectly nice. Then again, I wasn't one to look at the bad in people.

He smiled at Kaylee, glad that she was around. “Just thinking about the newcomers…” Simon shrugged a little bit. “I mean, we’ve been all over the universe and we’ve never met anybody who wasn’t entirely human up until now. It’s really pretty interesting.”

He stopped talking after that, a little afraid that he sounded like a medical nerd.
