Players 8 | but it's your heart, not mine, that's scarred

I had tender feelings that you made hard,
But it's your heart, not mine, that's scarred.
So when I go home, I'll be happy to go -
You're just somebody that I used to know.

You don't need my help anymore,
It's all now to you, there ain't no before.
Now that you're big enough to run your own show -
You're just somebody that I used to know.

"Somebody That I Used To Know" by Elliott Smith

Players 9: Boston
This is the moment that you know
That you told her that you loved her, but you don’t
You touch her skin and then you think
That she is beautiful, but she don’t mean a thing to me

Boston, Massachusetts: cultural Mecca of the United States and the largest city in the New England region. Affectionately dubbed “The Athens of America,” Boston is an intellectual hub, with some of the world’s most prominent collegiate institutions, and a history rich with spilled tea and the revolution. Centuries after the Puritans landed and Paul Revere rode his horse around the then infantile town to warn, “The British are coming!,” Boston is a thriving, urban metropolis, and the seventh largest city in the US. Having survived industrialization, post-modernism, and devastating economic fluxes, Boston emerged as one of the nation’s premier centers for politics, art, culture, and music (and most recently, it is responsible for the emergence of the hardcore punk scene).

The Game
I wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking
As we moved together in the dark
And all the friends that I was telling
All the playful misspellings
And every bite I gave her left a mark

In the words of God AKA: Wikipedia, “Hard work, moral uprightness, and an emphasis on education remain part of Boston's culture.” At Weston High School, students are expected to uphold these values. Some of them do, but not everyone.

While Weston offers a broad spectrum of extra curriculars, there are those who derive their greatest satisfaction not from scoring goals or making touch downs, but from empty promises whispered in the dark of a stranger’s bedroom. For some, it’s a malicious and calculated game that objectifies unwitting victims, reducing them to black pen marks in little black books, and arbitrary notches on belts of experience. For others, it’s a careless and ignorant gesture; a one-night stand written off as nothing more than a casual fling. And then there are those who are just guilty by association. Your friends are an extension of yourself, and if their locker-room talk boasts of latest conquests and present endeavors, you’re no better than the lot of them. In fact, you might be worse, for you stood idly by. Or so the story goes.

As tiny vessels oozed into your neck and formed the bruises
That you said you didn’t want to fade
But they did, and so did I that day

“The game,” to put it bluntly, is no longer about bedding the most innocent girl in school or the taming of the shrew. It’s about the lies we tell ourselves to get us through another day, and the comfort we find in the rhythm of a stranger’s skin. It’s about careless acts of passion, carefully construed plans of moral depravity, and meaningless trysts that perpetuate a vicious cycle of guilt and self-deprecation. It’s about the people we push away to keep from getting too close; to prevent from preying on our weaknesses, or discovering the carefully polished chinks in our seemingly impenetrable armor. It’s about the lengths we will go to make sure we are the ones who leave first come sunrise, because there is nothing worse than waking up to find that someone else already beat you to it.

So one last touch and then you’ll go
And we’ll pretend that it meant something so much more
But it was vile, and it was cheap
And you are beautiful, but you don’t mean a thing to me

Repost. Sadie is open, but pending tagging as far as I know.

Thatcher
"All right?" he inquired as she downed the pill without the aid of water though he neither cared nor made an attempt to. His reasons for not getting back into the car and ignoring her existence were simple; it was a courtesy he owed to the girl departing to ensure that her innocent friend didn't wind up in bigger trouble than she was already getting into by being with her. Now that Leila was no longer there to distract him, he was able to get a closer look at the other girl and was immediately struck by the slightest sense of familiarity, though he found himself unable to place where he had seen her before. Thatcher didn't doubt for a moment that the two of them were classmates as Weston had just one public high school nor was it unlikely they attended the same church given most of the townspeople seemed to flock to Free Will Baptist because of the persuasive powers of a certain blonde named Whitney-Anne Carpenter.

He knew it was neither, though he did recall having passed her once or twice in the hallways and seeing her on the occasional Sunday, but something altogether different. Then it struck him. She was the girl he had locked eyes with the morning after the Homecoming dance when he had fallen asleep in his car and woken up to see her walking across the parking lot in a mess. He had wondered then as he did now what had happened but felt no need to clue her in to the fact he had recognized her and from where. Thatcher instead chose that moment to turn his attention back to the music that was still playing and went about putting in a new album to listen to as there were only so many times that particular song could be listened to before it began to wear on his nerves. Satisfied as something other than Nirvana began to play, he took a seat on the car bumper, and watched her for a moment, curious. "So how did you come to be mixed up with dear Leila Morgan?" he asked in a conversational tone as he had learned previously that she wasn't up to taking any of his shit. However, that didn't mean he wasn't going to still try to dish it out whenever possible, like now. "Trying to do good by befriending some lost soul?"

Audrey

'Goodbye' never made it past her lips. Micah, apparently desiring to keep the conversation short, hung up on her, and Audrey set the phone down, looking at herself in the mirror hanging on her door, cringing at her appearance. Not normally so self-conscious, she felt uneasy that she was doing something so blatant to seek a certain person's attention. This was for Micah, and in the grand scheme of things, it was such a trivial act, so Audrey pushed the doubts from her mind, knowing that she would have to do a lot more than cater to his fantasies to make up for what she had done. I can do this, she thought, inhaling sharply as she opened her bedroom door and sauntered downstairs. She hardly worried about catching the eye of unwanted onlookers within her home. She could walk out of the house stark naked (which she nearly was at the moment, anyway), and her father wouldn't notice. He was too busy cooing over Wife No. 4, on their extended honeymoon of nearly a year now.

She drove to his apartment, parking her car down the street and going into the building, walking the familiar path to his loft and knocking on the door. The idea occured to her that she should have brought some of his things with her, for the sake of appearances. But she wanted to keep them. It was only a pair of boxers and a shirt that had been left in her car, since he'd never been in her house (her choice, not his). And they would remain there, as long as she had hope.

"Hi," she said, with a small smile, slightly pleased by his shocked expression. She brushed past him, grabbing the bag in his hand as she entered the apartment. "I still want my five minutes." So there.

Tristan

Meg had destroyed his entire world and revived it again, in a matter of seconds. Her kiss, which he eagerly reciprocated as he wrapped his arms around her petite waist, renewed the hope that laid in tatters just minutes before. She had that power over him, and he couldn't blame her for using it, considering all that he had done, all that time he made her wait. Whatever it was that was holding Meg back seemed to have disappeared, and Tristan might have questioned her about it, but he understood what it was like, to have everything in front of you yet still not realize what kept you from taking it. That had been him until Homecoming night. But he could never be that person again, now that he knew just what he had been missing for so many years.

What did it even matter now? She was his. She couldn't emphasize that more.

"Could've fooled me," he said with a slight smile. And I'm your best friend. "It's ok. Everything is going to be ok." He pulled her into his lap, holding her close to him. "I know, I know," he whispered. "I love you." He kissed her neck, trailing upwards until he reached her face. "I love you so much." His hand caressed her cheek, kissing her one last time before getting up, pulling her with him, letting her feet slide gently to the floor. "Come on, Margaret," he said with a wink, holding her hand as he opened the door. "We can do this."

Jeremy

Feeling somewhat conflicted, Jeremy wasn't sure whether to be relieved that Lauren had released his hand or displeased by the delayed course of action. He actually felt embarrassed in front of his sister, which he supposed was her intention, but he had indeed succumbed to his sister's childish game that so precisely attacked his insecurities. He marvelled at little Caroline Flynn for the briefest of moments, before he scooped her up as she ran in circles around him, mercilessly tickling her, oddly pleased by the shrill giggles that followed. "That's enough out of you, Miss Caroline," he teased, setting her down reluctantly, eyeing her warily for any warning of an encore. She looked at him apologetically, smiling shyly before traipsing off ahead of them in the direction of the Flynn house.

"Hmm, you may have a point there," Jeremy said, looking ahead of him to spot his sister, who probably clutched her candy bag with an unbreakable grip. "This will have to be a two-person effort. You distract her, and I'll grab the candy," he said with a grin. "And keep it all to myself, of course," he added.

"That would be a shame," he said, lowering his voice slightly. "It might dampen my plans for the evening." What was this? Jeremy being...playful? Oh yes. Moments like these were fleeting, folks.

Kasey

Gladdened by Ridley's quick acceptance of his reasoning, Kasey entered the party in the best of spirits, immediately gravitating towards the keg, resplendent in all its glory and promise of a good time. Kasey looked at his friend somewhat strangely, as if questioning the validity of his request, but his expression softened, and he placed a hand on his shoulder. "Look, Ridley, we all make mistakes," he said, without the slightest hint of resentment or disapproval in his voice. Kasey couldn't judge him, not when he had made so many mistakes himself, but even if he were a little closer to pristine, he still couldn't find Ridley completely responsible for his actions on Homecoming. "Let it go."

His gaze swiveled to locate the girl Ridley referred to, and upon finding her, he gave her a good look, irked by a feeling that he had seen her before. But he would better remember someone like her. She was cute. "Short? Short is my type?" Well, Kasey wasn't particularly tall, so pint-sized girls were appealing, in a way. "I'll be right back. Right back," Kasey said, pointedly looking at Ridley before approaching the girl. And her...boy. "Oh, I don't know about that. You look pretty good to me," he said in response to her comment. "...thirsty?" He asked, holding up his cup. Smooth, Kasey. Real smooth.

Chloe

"Hey! Hey! Where are you going?" Chloe exclaimed when she looked up and was surprised to see Keston LaCoaste sliding out of his seat. He was leaving. Well, he wasn't leaving. He left. He was already out the entrance of O'Connors, and Chloe just sat there dumbfounded for a moment. "So infuriating," Chloe muttered to herself, as she slowly started gathering her things and stuffing them back into her bag. It was hard to say if Chloe was actually going to go after him and explain three very good reasons why Keston needed to come back, the number one being that Chloe still had an hour and a half of tutoring scheduled for the day. But the thing was she didn't know how much good it would do with pod-Keston around. She could usually get Keston to atleast humor her and do his assignments. But then, she realized that he had left his the black binder on the table.

Muttering some choice words under her breath, she immediately grabbed the binder and her book bag, and made a quick break for the door. Once outside, she spotted Keston. "You're being," Chloe didn't even know what Keston was being, but she kept her quick trot towards him trying to think of a good enough word. "You're being a baby. I came all the way down here to help you....you have to get your work done." He hadn't gotten far considering he was having to deal with a book bag and hobbling around on crutches.

"Did you hear me?" Chloe said once she had arrived at his side. She shoved the black binder hard against his chest. "You're forgot this. You know, you're so selfish." She just shook her head. He wasn't even worth all the trouble.

Dominick Rhodes [Repost]

Lurking in the shadows of the Haunted House, a robed figured slowly floated from room to room, it's face cloaked and it's breath raspy. Though previous participants coursing by had only witnessed its sloth-like traipsing, the next three young children to cross his path were not so lucky. "Boo!" Throwing his hood back and turning on his red lightsaber (complete with movie sound effects), Dominick threw himself in the children's path, causing Buzz Lightyear, a clown, and The Little Mermaid to burst out in a fit of shrill screams, all clinging to another and shaking until they realized just who was standing infront of them. Then they glared at him, even ripped spare Halloween decorations off the wall and tossed them at him. "Domnik, you big MEANIE." One of the little ones cried, throwing a few spare tootsie rolls at his head.

"Hey, hey, it's Dom-i-nick." He corrected. Why couldn't they ever get it right? He sighed, deflecting the tootsie rolls with his amazing lightsaber of doom (best investment he had ever made, really), "So, munchkins." He kneeled down to their level, using his lightsaber as a crutch to balance himself. "Where's your sister?" He inquired, though all three little brats instantly fell silent, crossing their arms and looking at him with amazing tenacity for such young children. "I have Pop Rocks." Dominick reasoned, reaching his pocket and pulling out three packets. "C'mon, I know your mom doesn't like you having Pop Rocks because you always make a mess... so you never get to have them. You know you want them." He grinned broadly, especially when the youngest of them began to waver, staring at the packaged candy deliriously before the other two jabbed in him in the side and brought him back to his senses. Damn. So he would have to try the charm approach. He raised his hand infront of them, moving it back to forth infront of their faces, "You will tell me where your sister is. You will tell me where your sister is. You will-"

"She's behind us somewhere." Little Mermaid piped up, only to be hit in the arm by Buzz Lightyear in the process. "You moron! He's not a real Jedi!"

"Aww, come on, it's not like you didn't gain anything from this." Dominick forked over the candy and then stood up to his full height, "Allright. See you, brats." He walked off in the opposite direction in which they had came, slowly feeling his way in the dark. Not being able to see a thing he turned on his lightsaber, though that didn't stop him from at that moment barrelling into somebody tripping on the stairs, falling backwards and bringing the soft form he had run into along with him. Illuminated by the red glow, he grinned in satisfaction. "Isobel! I knew we'd run into each other sooner or later."

OOC: So.. Win and Sailor have no place to be, currently. Consider that a plea.

Arden: (repost)

Pulling the Cabrio into Mason's driveway, Arden beeped once, rather impatiently. Poor Mason was yet again being dragged along on one of Arden's crazy adventures, this time, the Halloween party at the Red Room, in particular. Hey, Arden could be doggedly persistent, to the point of extraordinarily annoying, when she needed to be. After their Homecoming scheme had more or less fell flat, Arden spent about a week mumbling dejectedly, ready to give up, before she decided that no, Operation Lesbian Lovers was in effect until she got some kind of reaction from Austin. She didn't care how long it took - and, funnily, it never occured to her that Mason might now wish to pursue this project on the long-term - but being as stubborn as she was, she wasn't giving up so easily.

Hoping to see Austin there, and even more hopeful for a reaction, or better, an encounter of some sort, Arden had come thisclose to going as Christina Aguilera from the Lady Marmalade music video, just for the sake of scandalousness. Not that her parents would have let her out of the house looking like that, first of all. Thankfully, however, she determined that she was definitely not comfortable with that level of skankitude - although it would have garnered some attention, that's for sure - ultimately coming to the conclusion that something classic, something old-school would be a far better choice. Hence the Britney Spears, circa "Hit Me Baby One More Time," not post-KFed trashy Britney, nuh-uh. [TAG MASON]

Brown:

Keeping in line with his lack of school spirit, and well, spirit for anything, really, Brown also had a healthy level of disdain for commercialized holidays. So, it hardly needs to be pointed out that he was only at the Red Room's Halloween shindig for work, not pleasure. For someone so less-than-enthusiastic about, um, everything.. Brown surprisingly did not hate his stint as a bouncer for a wannabe night club, though. First of all, the gig paid pretty nicely. (Better than Burger King, anyway.) And he didn't really mind the music. In fact, the louder the better, all the easier to block everything else out. And just be for a while. Until the next group of sixteen year-old punks got into a fistfight, which he was responsible for breaking up. Or until the next bimbo got falling-down drunk on cheap, smuggled-in beer. Actually, those incidences often ended up being pretty good ones for Brown, so..

In any case, this whole Halloween business meant that the club was even more packed than usual, filled with peers in various states of costume (for the girls, various states of undress). Speaking of which, it was a good thing, for all parties involved, that Brown had been too busy turning away a pack of ambitious middle schoolers to notice his own sister's choice of costume - or lack thereof. Lucky, lucky Amelia had been able to sneak in and get lost in the crowd, but man, she had better hope she could keep it that way. God help any poor soul who made the mistake of gawking at the younger Coleman within Brown's line of sight. Ouch. [OPEN]

Meg.
Meg would have gladly spent the remainder of the evening holed up in her room with Tristan if it meant she didn't have to face Andrew, but obligation won out over inclination and the only protest given to counter his efforts to take them closer to leaving, and closer to what was presumed to be an end to the entire mess, was a disheartened look. Bound by the words she'd said in mad dash to appease Tristan, she knew that there was no further way to put off telling Andrew what she had let happen. Since she had never been much of a fighter, Meg had never experienced the sting of her boyfriend's anger and it wasn't the most exciting prospect she could think of. Once he found out, Andrew was going to be lost to her forever.

"You sound so confident," she mumbled, though her tone did not carry the same gloominess it had when he'd first arrived. They walked the length of the hall towards the staircase still clasping hands, the mutual grip they shared loosening with every step that took them nearer to it. Islene's voice drifted up, apparently propositioning Reagan to coax everyone into skipping the party so she wouldn't be stuck at home handing out candy by herself. "She's not buying that, Issy!" The lighthearted voice Meg used to yell into the kitchen as she descended the steps was not, as it had been earlier, forced. The brief physical contact, the assurance, and the fact that a resolution had been reached all contributed to the relief coursing through her. Andrew would know by the end of the night, come hail or high water, and so would Reagan. Wouldn't she? Meg turned back to look at Tristan, the question lingering in her eyes long enough for him to understand before his girlfriend had popped up and Meg had slipped back into the part of Best Friend.

Natalie

The effects of the pill hadn’t been instantaneous, and Natalie wondered immediately after she chewed it why she thought it would be. With only the aid of her saliva to wash the pill she chewed down, miniscule particles of the pill lingered behind in various crevices of her mouth, and for a moment she was temporarily distracted in trying to sweep up those particles with her tongue. Natalie hadn’t realized Thatcher had moved until she heard him speak again, and when she glanced back at him, he was sitting on the bumper of his car, watching her expectantly. Blinking, she started to feel a little strange, and wondered briefly if the drug was beginning to work.

How had she become mixed up with dear Leila Morgan? Natalie had a feeling this wouldn’t be the first time such a question would be posed to her. Perhaps now was an opportunity to practice her answer. “I think it might have been the other way around.” Natalie retorted cryptically, predicting something along the lines of “Oh really?” from Thatcher, and her perception had been rewarded with a look that said it about as vividly as his words could have.

The feeling that had slowly crept up on her earlier was now beginning to splash against her in waves. Having felt tense and on edge for most of the night, Natalie could feel her muscles relax a little. Her chest, once heavy with apprehension and uncertainty, gave way to a calmer feeling. For a split second, she flashed back to Homecoming and the football field, remembering strangely enough when she had convinced herself she could literally touch the stars. Oddly enough, that same absurd sense of being able to do the impossible had come over her. She smiled strangely to herself, failing to remember anything good about that night until that very moment. Conveniently, she forgot about the rest.

No, that wasn’t true. She still remembered waking up alone the morning after, and something else that prompted her to scrutinize Thatcher a little more closely. No, she still couldn’t quite put all the pieces of the puzzle together, and while this might have frustrated her, suddenly it all just seemed unimportant. “What did she give me?” She asked almost incredulously, moving carefully towards car as Natalie suddenly felt as if she might need to steady herself at any moment.

Reagan
Her plan had seemed flawless at first; she would leave Tristan upstairs with Meg in hopes that he would be able to cheer her up, find her silver slippers while downstairs informing her friend's younger sibling that nachos were a no-go, and then reconvene in a few moments to head to the Red Room where Andrew was awaiting their arrival. Reagan might have been one to consider every probable outcome in a situation, but even then, she wouldn't have been prepared for what she was getting herself into upon finding thirteen-year-old Islene Anstruther in the kitchen. After being subjected to her pleas that the three of them do anything but go out that evening and leave her alone to hand out candy on her own, she was thankful that her own sibling was both older and male, as she couldn't even begin to fathom how Meg managed to live with someone that talked that much. Her friend must have been a saint, because were it not for the sound of her voice drifting down the stairs and interrupting the younger girl's train of thought, then Reagan might not have suppressed her urge to throttle the middle schooler.

"I'm sorry, Issy, but Meg and I will be back later. Maybe we can watch a movie or something then," she told the girl, hoping that her friend hadn't counted on a different plan of action, and turning to leave the kitchen. Finding her silver ballet flats where she had left them in the front hall, Reagan slid them on her feet before she turned to find Tristan and Meg on the stairs. She paused only long enough to mouth something to her friend - Please don't leave me alone with her ever again! I beg you! - before gesturing toward the front door. "Shall we get this show on the road?" She asked brightly, the cheerful tone not betraying her frustrations with the younger Anstruther at present, and keeping Islene - who'd joined them in the hall - in the dark about what she'd just said. "I bet Andrew's sick of waiting."

Lauren

Lauren gasped. How scandalous! Keep it all for himself? Obviously Jeremy thought very high of himself if he thought he would be able to keep Caroline’s hard-earned spoils away from her. Admittedly, his next comment elicited a high-brow look from Lauren. How unexpectedly bold of him. Especially given his reaction mere seconds earlier to Caroline’s scandalous accusations. Grinning to herself privately, Lauren considered the myriad of meanings that could have been derived from his comment, all of which were decidedly too nefarious for someone of Jeremy’s stature. Jeremy being the honorable, upstanding person that he was and all. Still she couldn’t help but entertain every little wicked device that crossed her mind, and tried her best not to laugh right out loud in conjuncture with picturing Jeremy doing such unspeakable things, lest she have to explain herself.

“I hope your plans don’t involve taking advantage of me.” Lauren chided in a more unabashedly playful tone, channeling a look of innocence that would have made her god fearing mother proud. Now if only it didn’t come four years too late. “Because I’ll have you know I’m not an easy person to be had.” Batted eyes and everything, she played up the act admirably. “Not even where the man of steal is concerned.”

OOC: I do wonder how many more times I can say 'Travis fucking Matsuura' before it gets old.

Breanna

Wandering aimlessly about the abandoned church, Breanna half suspected that she may have been attending the wrong party. As of arriving, she had yet to even catch of a glimpse of the boy she was looking for, and briefly entertained the thought that he may have been at the Red Room. However, such a suspicion went against what she had heard from Ayda who had heard from the guy who regularly supplied her with pot who had heard from Maya (and while gossip wasn't the most reliable source, it was the only discreet tool on her side) that, in fact, this is where Christopher Graham would be. A few moments later such doubts would be quelled and she would realize why she had had them in the first place. The entire time she had been looking for something somewhat traditional; classic, if you will. A marvel superhero, Sherlock Holmes, any American icon, really. What she hadn't been expecting was to find a familiar face underneath a bald-cap with a little black ponytail and monk robes. In the guise of some sort of eastern god, much to Breanna's surprise she discovered that Christopher Graham had a sense of humor - one that wasn't sick, at the very least.

Approaching the robed figure, Breanna prepared herself for the classic accidental-bump gesture; the one where you intentional run into a person with the guise that it was all purely the fault of poor motor skills. Yes, that gesture. Weaving her way towards the crowd, she approached him within a foot before twisting her right foot to the left and purposefully losing all balance and coordination, falling right against his back. "Uh," Breanna stuttered, glancing upwards with faux surprise at the body she collided against. "Oh." Was all she said; for adding an "I'm sorry," would have been overkill for Breanna Hobbes, enough to know that she was in fact, not acting as her normal-self. Instead she settled on a simple, non-hostile "Whoops...".

Peyton

"You should have!" Peyton excitedly exclaimed upon hearing his quarterback idea, "We could have been like so the hottest pair here." She added sarcastically, unable to stifle the glee which found itself expressed on her face in the form of a broad smile. Really, she couldn't have been more lucky to have found a friend in Austin; even if she would have to severely punish him later for taking her to a place like this, at least his prescence alone made it not nearly as bad as it could have been. In the middle of their fit of joined laughter, however, the odd couple found themselves interrupted. It took Peyton a good minute to finally recognize who it was beneath all of the dreadlocks and black eyeliner - and she had to stifle the urge to giggle when she realized who it was, because apparently Kasey Morgan was not nearly as observant when it came to her costume. "Uh..." Peyton smiled awkwardly, eventually realizing that Kasey was probably kidding around. After all, his little line had been too ridiculously cheesy to be taken seriously. She looked up at Austin who was looking back at her questioningly. "I got this," Peyton explained, "He knows who I am. I mean, as a g-, you know." Peyton mumbled quietly, before clearing her throat and turning back to Kasey.

"I am always up for beer." Peyton replied in a forced girl-pretending-to-be-a-guy-pretending-to-be-a-girl voice; good lord, this was getting complicaed.

Travis

Why not? He had gotten a 'why not'? He was Travis fucking Matsuura. However, this nonchalant answer didn't perturb him terribly - the ones who played hard-to-get where the ones who were more worth the effort in the end, so he told himself. He had every intention and motivation to, by the end of the night, take that 'why not' and turn it into 'take me, I'm yours!', and naturally all through the pure efforts of his charm and grace. "You don't sound very enthusiastic." Travis said pointedly, taking her hand in his and leading her towards the dance floor. Placing one hand on the hip and the other on the small of her back, he gently pulled her closer up against him, "Any chance I can change that?" He asked confidently, arching an eyebrow. Just as he was about to go and do the Travis thing and 'wow' the anonymous blonde with his mind-blowing dance moves (hey, he could do Paranoia on Reverse, Heavy, 2X Speed - the boy had mad skills), the furious trance beat that had been previously booming through the speakers softened to a slower-pace electronica song, much to his displeasure. "And here I was going to show off." Travis sighed aloud, holding the girl against him and slowing down his rhythm to match that of the song. "Honestly, you'd think this was some lame school dance or something." He commented off-handedly. Travis was by all means an eloquent speaker, but slow-dancing was a different matter. What to do with himself, what to say, all where things which he wasn't quite sure how to handle. Luckily, there were still pleasantries to be exchanged. "I'm Travis." He said, staring down at her and waiting for a response.

Jeremy

Had Jeremy considered Lauren a mean-spirited sort of person, he may have accused of her of saying things to make him uneasy on purpose, derving some sort of sick pleasure from watching him squirm. However, she merely joked a little at his expense, relying mostly on sexual innuendo that Jeremy had never quite gotten used to hearing. He would describe Lauren Palmer as mischievous, if anything, and since he made himself such an easy target, he couldn't blame her for taking advantge of him. He even prided himself on his relative complacency.

"Now if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to make me feel uncomfortable," he remarked, facing her with a mockingly serious expression. "Not going to woooork," he said with a grin. Well, he didn't have to show his anxiety, anyway, although Jeremy was a horrible failure at disguising his emotions.

"Well, if your weakness isn't Superman, than what is it? Rabid dogs? The ever-encroaching threat of e-mail taking over the world?" He joked.

Tristan

With one last look at Meg's bedroom, an inner sanctum for them both, a place where they bared their souls to one another, the two of them approached the staircase, reluctantly letting of each other. "I am confident." Now that he had Meg, he could do anything, even the dreaded task of informing his girlfriend of what had transpired on Homecoming night. Tristan hadn't allowed the many opportunities to tell Reagan slip by on the selfish need for companionship, knowing that Meg would stay with Andrew unless she specified otherwise. He cared about Reagan, which made this all the more difficult. It wasn't as simple as breaking up with their significant others, not when their feelings and hearts were also at stake. It should have been, in Tristan's eyes, but he even lacked the audacity to simplify matters so much.

He met Meg's gaze briefly, a small smile appearing on his lips that should answer the question he knew she must have been asking of him. He descended the stairs to join his girlfriend, reaching for her hand, kissing her on the cheek. "Yeah, we better go," he said. "I can drive."

Kasey

The insistence of the boy attached to cheerleader to stay with her and drink with them may have dampened Kasey's spirits if he didn't realize something first. The girl, the cute, petite cheerleader he had just attempted to hit on? Was definitely Peyton Hafenbrack, the boy who had helped him carry an unconscious Ridley to his car on Homecoming.

It was almost a good thing that his offer to get drinks could be construed as just that - an offer, without any sort of indication of a hidden agenda on Kasey's part. His realization had quickly put an end to that, and Kasey finally mustered a smile after several moments of gawking. "Beer it is," he said, heading once again to the keg, slightly perplexed not to see Ridley waiting for him. But Ridley was a big boy, and considering his newfound cautionary way of approaching life, Kasey had less to worry about than before. He soon returned to the...odd couple with three, full drinks (he had taken the liberty of refilling his own cup).

"Just so you know, Peyton, I'd be careful walking around any corners tonight," Kasey warned, his tone remarkably serious. "Wouldn't want to disturb any couples."

Thatcher
The silence wore on, as did the song coming from inside of the car, and he hummed along with Johnny Cash as the tune changed to one that he was familiar with. She might have taken her time to come up with an answer, but when Natalie did, she didn't disappoint. Thatcher would have countered her remark with one of equal wit were it not for the fact she seemed too distracted with what was happening to her body to care whether or not he responded to her statement. While he had never experienced it for himself, he knew enough to he recognize both her silence and the queer look on her face as indications that the pill she had swallowed was beginning to take effect. He watched her with open interest as her expression began to change and the troubled, distraught look she wore faded into one of calm peace as her shoulders seemed to relax in the absence of the weight that had been repressing them.

"Oxycontin," he told her simply. It was her question, not just her actions, that seemed to confirm his earlier suspicions that she had no idea just what kind of trouble she was getting herself into. Keeping a close watch as she began to walk toward him, Thatcher hoped the girl was capable of staying upright as he had no desire to explain to Leila how her friend had managed to scrape her knee while under his care, along with making a mental note to tell her that he was not going to make a habit out of being caretaker to her playmates. "Ever been to the dentist and get pain pills afterward? What you just took was like taking twice the normal dosage," he explained, knowing there was no need to be more exact than that, and even knowing she wasn't used to the feeling, he couldn't help but smirk at her as she continued making her way toward the bumper to sit as if she was awaiting the ground to fall out at any moment.

Leah (tagging Brown)

Ambitiously grabbing a shooter of something or other off of the passing trays, Leah wrapped her entire hand around it as she shot it to the back of her mouth, feeling that amazing burn as it slid down her throat. Giggling and putting the cup down, her eyes fell upon Brown Coleman. A devious smile came to her lips, as she teetered across the room on her heels, never stopping short of surprising herself nor those around her.

Moving her hand swiftly behind him, she gave his ass a small pinch. "Hey sexy," she purred, a flicker of angst in her eyes. She wasn't sure what she was doing, but did she care? No. It's not like that ever stopped her.

Running her lips together, she stopped and placed them into a sexy you've-been-a-bad-boy pout, the gloss being caught from the several lights in the room. Smoothing on the wrinkles in her costume that was almost too short for comfort, she gave him a flirty grin.

Ridley

He had seen her coming from a mile away, he had just made the mistake of assuming that she wouldn't have done the same. He was Ridley Bosworth, with the exception of one extenuating circumstance, never before in his life had he stood out in a crowd. People didn't go out of their way to speak to him; as he had nothing to offer - stimulating conversation included. Which was why he couldn't quite comprehend what made him so damned alluring to Leila Morgan; her very interesting present company considered. Wait. Focusing in on the direction from which Leila had left, he noticed a familiar head of slightly frizzy brown hair, and it took him a few seconds to identify the girl as the boisterous and most definitely buzzed prom-date accompanying No-Lan at homecoming; whom he and Anna had approached. Except, she seemed different, a shadow of the vivacious girl he had only encountered for a few seconds. He shrugged it off, given the fact that he barely knew her, however for some reason it tugged at the back of his head, bothering him. The reason it was bothering him was now standing right infront of him, and he flinched slightly at her shameless greeting.

"Leila, don't do this." Ridley sighed, turning away from her and pretending to preoccupy himself with the hose attached to the keg he had been standing next to, filling himself another glass - overfilling it in fact, much to the annoyance of the people waiting in line behind him. Finally dropping the hose and turning back to face Leila, although he willed himself not to look her in the eye, he responded listlessly, "Yeah, you look nice too." His tone absolutely deprived of any emotion whatsoever.

Jericho Torrini

Within the course of a little less than a month, Jericho Torrini had quickly come to the conclusion that being "the new guy" absolutely, inarguably, simply sucked. Being the new guy at work, being the new guy at school, being the new guy in general as it stripped one of any personality or given name at birth, and earned you the honorable position of doing bitchwork. Always fun, always fun. Here, he could have been enjoying his Halloween night with B-rated horror-flick reruns or perhaps even the company of a British vampire, but instead he was working; slaving away for those fortunate enough to actually have a Halloween night. To make matters worse, instead of booking a band the Red Room had gone with a DJ for their party; a disc-jockey! For the love of all things acoustic, a disc-jockey. At the very least, the costume he was bearing (a homage to one of the greats of graphic novels and action cinema alike) came complete with a mask, so even his own employer wasn't aware of what he would rather do with the "Red Room Special".

"Hey, new guy, take this diet coke over to table four." With an inaudible groan Jericho took said drink, wondering when the Red Room became a restaurant and when fifteen year olds found the need to actually drink diet coke. He made his way from the bar through the crowd with drink in hand, never counting on the fact that there were actually people here who were enthused about this whole thing, so enthused that their arms and legs failed sporadically, nearly tripping Jericho in the process, who's instant reaction was to swing the other way, an action which didn't bode so well with the drink in his hand, seeing as to how its contents fled from the glass he was holding and instead found themselves splashing on the skirt of a female mad hatter. He immediately pulled his mask off, looking at the damange. Damn you, peripheral vision! "I am so getting fired." He stated simply, staring at the stain before willing himself to look up at the face whom the costume belonged to. "Nice costume?" He offered, before immediately reprimanding himself, "I mean, I'm really sorry about that. Let me just," He dug inside his cape for some napkins, pulling out a few and awkwardly extending them towards her.
