Phenomenon
Loosely based on the movie

Seven ordinary kids see a bright light coming from the sky on their shared birthday and then discover they have super-intelligence and other powers.

It started off with 12 couples from different parts of the world having children all on the same day 16 years ago. Each of the couples were from different social classes, had different lives, there wasn’t anything inherently special about them. They were pretty ordinary people living pretty ordinary lives. Somehow, 12 years after these births the children all ended up in the same city. New York city that is. These kids are not necessarily friends, some of them even don’t like each other. They’re ordinary kids, some smart, some not so smart. Some of them are popular, some not so popular. Some live in nice apartments and go to the Hamptons every weekend, some are just lucky to find a couch to sleep on for the night. Some are friends, some are enemies. Not many of them know about the shared birthday, so there’s no reason to think anything weird of it.

They were going about their lives normally, their shared birthday was just around the corner and some were planning parties while others dreaded the day. On that night at exactly 10pm, the exact time they were all born, somehow they all ended up in the football field of their school. None of them knew why they were there, some had partied to hard and passed out, others had gone to bed early because they had spent all their energy. None remembered how they got there. And then at exactly 12’o’clock they all saw it, a bright light descending from the sky, they thought at first it might be a spaceship, some where terrified, others were intrigued. And then like that it was gone. And they all woke up in the places they had last fallen asleep, thinking it was all a weird dream.

Until….weird things started to happen. The following days after the incident they start to develop weird powers that even they can’t explain. They all start to band together, some reluctantly, to find out exactly what was happening to them.

Okay so basically these kids have no idea what is happening to them. They were normal kids before, but now they have all these special abilities. Not only does it freak them out, but it freaks out the rest of the city, the kids will be harassed, ridiculed, and feared by their fellow students, the public, and even some of their families. And maybe this fear might turn into violence, and also the government considers them high risk.

Also I was thinking of having a few (at most 6, even number of boys and girls) turn evil, but, I will pm you to let you know. Also, there are an equal number of boys and girls for a reason.

Info: Ace's mom had him in college and dropped out to take care of him. He's very thankful for that, for her taking care of him. His philosophy, along with hers, is to just have freedom and do whatever you want. They've lived in a small house by the beach since he was a baby and he loves it. His mother is very laid-back so she doesn't get on his case for doing anything he wants. He's not a bad kid, he listens when he needs to listen. He just basically does whatever he wants to do, skateboarding and surfing are two of his most favorite things, he's kind of a daredevil, he'll try ANYTHING once. He loves it, he loves the rush he gets from it. His mother is a nurse and he thinks that is totally great, he loves that she helps people, they have a great relationship and they take care of each other.
Power: Teleportation- They are able to move from one place to another by just thinking about it. They cannot control this power and occasionally just disappear from where they are and end up, confused, in another place. If they do it unconsciously, they can travel long distances. But if they try to do it on purpose, they can only travel small distances. In the future they will be able to travel far distances in a split second and will also be able to take people with them.

Info: Where some people may become angry at the world and be 'bad' as a response, Anton isn't - it's far from that. He's had a pretty good life. He has two good parents, a little sister, and he's always had what he needed. So what went wrong? Quite simply, it started from his neighbor's influence. He was just a few years older than Anton, and as a kid Anton would idolize him. He would constantly see into his house from his bedroom. He always looked like he really enjoyed his life. That life was all about, from Anton's view, women, rudeness, and partying. So as he grew, that's what he became about. His parents didn't know what to do with him and it only got worse with time. Anton didn't care what they thought at that point. He's very happy with his lifestyle and has no intention of changing any of it. He goes out every night, parties, wakes up next to some girl whose name he'll hardly ever find out. He still manages to show up in school during the day, but mostly as a waiting area until the next party starts and as an opportunity to find himself a girl for the night. There have been some who've come through more than once, but he'd never know that. No one would dare risking pissing him off. He will beat you down if you piss him off. He doesn't hit girls, but usually manages to scare them off. The fact he's still passing in school is kind of a miracle. Or at least, it's thanks to the fact he's sort of genius smart. Even if he's only sort of half-listening, he'll recall information down to obscure trivia. It really frustrates his parents and his teachers, but Anton of course doesn't care. Now, as far as redeeming qualities, he's surprisingly loyal to certain people. If they come through for him in certain situations, he'll remember. After that you're good for one or two favors. Anton doesn't want to change, and it'd take a pretty remarkable person to bring out even a drop of a good guy out of him.
Power: Pyrokinesis- They have the ability to create and control fire. They really cannot control this fire and at times fires will start up at anywhere if they feel intense emotions such as anger or hatred. The fires are usually very weak and easy to put out, but if the emotion is very intense and angry the fires can be very large and dangerous. At the moment, the only thing they can control is if they want a small flame, like lighting a candle or something. In the future they will be able to shape the fire any way they want, make it dance, make it move any way they want and make it as large as they want.

Info: Born in western Pennsylvania.USA to parents named Derek and Amanda. Brice's birth was unexpected because both Derek and Amanda were still in high school. Both parents had to drop out. Derek left Brice and Amanda when Brice was around 5. Amanda struggled to provide a good home. When they moved to New York, they had to move into a small, old apartment. Brice hides this fact at school by dressing well and not inviting anyone to his apartment. Everyone at school believes that he comes from a happy, successful household. He goes through relationships fast, not believing he will ever find the person for him because of what happened to his parents.
Power: Remote Influence- They are able to influence people to do what they want, but they do not know when they’re doing it sometimes. Basically its just sort of a suggestion thing, they think it or say something and the person ends up doing it. This happens at random times, and they can’t control it yet. In the future they will be able to actually control a larger number of people at any given time and make them do whatever they please. The person they’re controlling also sometimes feels nauseous and out of control.

Info: Caleb is the fourth youngest of a web of eight children. His parents had divorced when he was seven due to his father’s problem with adultery, and for a short while he grew up under the parenting of his two older brothers as his mother began to adjust to her life as a single mother.
To his remembrance, his adolescent years were relatively comfortable. Between his grandparents and his mother, they made sure that they had clean clothes and an adequate amount of food on the table. Luxuries were rare, but they got by on what they could and that was good enough for him. When Caleb was nine, his father cleaned up and remarried to a woman named Sarah Stevens, a single mother of one five-year-old Lily Stevens. Caleb and his brothers visit them once every month, and are civil for the most part, but each of the three boys hold a secret bitterness for their father and his new family that they do not yet realize, let alone acknowledge.
When Caleb was eleven, his mother remarried to a Drue Carrington, who in turn brought with him two children from his previous marriage, Sophia and David, both of who were already on their way to college. Shortly after, Drue was transferred to another sect of his company, and at age twelve, Caleb found himself in New York. It wasn’t long afterwards when his father and stepmother had another child, William, and his mother and stepfather soon following with little Bethany.
Caleb was always the quietest in the family. In a growing family of twelve, he is constantly struggling to find his place. His older brothers, both charming and entertaining in their own different ways, contrasted deeply with Caleb’s standoffish disposition. While his brothers found their high school niche in sports and club activities, Caleb, although reluctantly, discovered he found his in art. His ever so reckless spontaneity worries his mother, as he leaves the house should the fancy strike and doesn’t think to call. He has been known more than once to be sitting alone at the park at dusk, sketching his nearest inspiration. Currently he is in between homes from his older brother’s comfortable apartment and the posh Carrington household, whichever be the preference for his mood.
Caleb regards his extended family with a kind of polite insouciance, but holds his mother and older brothers very close to his heart. He is growing a fondness for his little sister Bethany, though he won’t admit it. And for his father, he has nothing but a slight bitterness and a curious disdain. They never really got along.
Power: Astral projection- They can move in and out of their body. When they are out of their body they can see all that is around them, no one can see them, they cannot touch anything either. They can be anywhere in a split second. They cannot control this power and in a fit of fear could possibly leave their body. They are also able to enter other’s bodies’ but cannot control this. In the future they will be able to move in out and out of any body they want and they will be able to be seen and touch things in their astral form.

Info: Eli might have been a really nice guy - if his parents hadn't been so rich. But as they are, he has come to rely on the wallet. There is nothing he can't get for the right price, that's his mantra. Money has always been there to bail him out, to answer to his material desires. He loves to boss people around, and he does it with no care at all about what they might think. Eli truly believes he is entitled to all the riches, the fortune. Anything that stands between him and his money better be insured. If there's any good in him it'll have to be dragged out of him with an industrial strength. He's so far in there doesn't seem to be a way out. He's well on his way to either ending up at the top of a big company - or at the bottom of a mental institution. There is sort of a craze in his eyes at times, and you really wonder not if but when he'll crack. People 'below' him beware. One event that has truly affected his life is something that happened just a few weeks ago. Coming out of his school, Eli was attacked. Someone grabbed him, knocked him out. He doesn't remember what happened, all he knows is he woke up in the hospital with a broken arm. It's still in a cast now and he hates it. What's worse is it really freaked his parents out. They're going for worst case scenario and are talking about sending him into hiding. Eli doesn't want to, refuses to be chased out of what is rightfully his.
Power: Materialization- They are able to create matter from nowhere out of nothing. They are not very experienced at this, but if they focus for a long period of time or if they want something bad enough it will materialize before them. The object, however, usually dissolves after a few minutes or has some malfunction or abnormality about it. If it is food, it doesn’t taste like it should. They can only materialize small objects the moment. They are also able to destroy things, dissolve them by will, but only small inanimate objects. In the future they will be able to create huge objects that become complete and will stay for as long as they want and they will be able to make human beings dissolve and disappear.

He learned that from his own parents who promised him many things growing up only to have them tell him to get over it later. He knows you can't believe people when they say something and it hurts a lot less to not expect it to begin with then it does to have the hope shoved back in your face latter. He hated that they had to move to New York but it's growing on him. He's not as easy to be found like he was in their small town in Utah.
Power: Telepathy- They have the ability to read others minds. This happens at random times and they hear sort of whispers of thoughts. They cannot control when they are able to hear thoughts, but they are able to control if they want others to hear their thoughts. In the future they will be able to turn it on and off and hear any number of people at any given time even if they’re across the world. They feel slightly nauseous whenever the use the power.

She misses home, but Canada has become home too and she likes them both. She moved there after her mother met a man and they married. Arianne and her mother moved to live with her stepfather. Arianne never liked him, feeling no one could ever take the place of her father. Her mother never really held it against her, knowing how close her daughter and her late husband were. The worst part to Arianne was that her stepfather never showed to mind her despise for him. She started emulating her friends more and more as she became older, because they weren’t like her stepfather. She dressed like them, sometimes talked like them. It wasn’t a turn against who she was personally, she did like the music and the clothes. She has also become interested in dancing, and she has spent the last few years developing her talents. She definitely has a nice bounce in her step. Still she wasn’t too attentive to the people around her, how they might feel. She’d say things, not thinking how others may be affected by it at times. All that was about to change…
Power: Empathy- They can feel and project other’s feelings, they cannot control this power, so that they actually act out these feelings at times. They are also able to project their feelings on others at times, but this happens rarely. They cannot control when this happens so they feel other’s emotions often. In the future they will be able to make people feel certain emotions and also turn this power on and off. Whenever they channel people’s emotions they feel them intensely and sometimes these emotions will last even when the person or persons is gone.

Info: Chas was born in Italy to an American mother named Fiona and a Chinese father named Leo. Her parents met when they were both very young and her mother was on a high school trip. They met again years later and were married after only 2 weeks. Fiona became pregnant with Chas but Leo was killed in an accident only 2 months after Chas was born. He left a very large amount of money so they were able to live comfortably. They lived in a small village and Chas always had a tutor and never really interacted with any with other children. She spent most of her time hanging out with her mother and her mother’s friends, reading, doing art crafts such as painting, and just relaxing. She also learned a lot of gymnastics. Her mother decided to move back to America when she was 12 and they moved to New York. She started going to the public school there and decided to become a cheerleader. This elevated her into popularity and people idolized her and treated her like a celebrity. She was never very comfortable with it because no one really knows the real her, they all just think she’s an air head cheerleader.
Power: Electrokinesis- They have the ability to create and control electricity. They can charge things and people up and they can shock people. They cannot control this ability and at times they can shock themselves and others around them. They can control all electrical devices but they do not really know how, so lights go on and off and things turn on and off especially when they feel strong emotions. They can throw very small shocks of electricity at people at the moment. But they have to be very careful not to get too emotional because they could electrocute people around them. In the future they will be able to turn on electrical devices, throw electricity balls, shock people at will, and recharge when they’re feeling low.

Power: Chronokinesis- They have the ability to slow or speed up time. They cannot really control this and at times it will happen randomly. They could possibly be standing there and all of a sudden everything around them goes in really slow motion and the words that people say seem very slurred and slow. Or everything can go really really fast and it seems like everyone and everything is moving at super speed. It seems as if the people are talking gibberish. In the future they will be able to control this power at will and even slow down time to the point that they can almost pause time. Also in the future they will be able to do this longer than short bursts. They sometimes feel dizzy after any of this happens.

Info: Lili was born in a small area of California, Yuba City. She is the only child of Ashley and Justin. Her childhood was less than perfect, and her life now is nothing different. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother lived in denial about it. Lili can't remember when the drunken stupor of her father turned to drunken violence but she does remember the fact that her mother was the target for much of it. Lili was determined to do something about it but, when she would tell her mother about things they could do to stop him, Lili would end up being punished by her. It was when she was 9 that the aggression from her father shifted from her mother to her. It seemed that every little thing that she would do 'wrong,' her father would completely go off on her and punish her for it. So she tried to be the perfect daughter that she thought he wanted, but he would punish her anyway. Because to him, she was always doing something wrong. Then one night he went too far, so far that Lili ended up going to the emergency room and it took her a few months to recover fully. Her father was placed in jail and they moved across the country to New York, she was 12. She still holds a few scars from that night, both physically and emotionally. It is possibly the reason why she is so insecure about herself and constantly trying to be perfect, to this day. Growing up she was always told that she was always wrong and unworthy. She's still stuck with a mother that continues to blame her for what happened to her father and makes sure that she knows it. Not to mention the fact that Lili still fears that one day he will come back for her, to punish her, and that this time she won't survive. Her only solice is through writing and singing. They help as a distraction as well as a form of release. There is also her opptimistic view on life, that somehow it will get better. That she will be saved, like those in the books she reads and movies she see.
Power: Precognition- They have the ability to see the outcome of events. They cannot tell when this will come to them, but they get flashes of things that will happen. Also they are able to predict the outcome of events and feel things that are about to happen and they can tell if there is someone else nearby. In the future they will be able to control this ability and even be able to change the outcome of events just by willing it. They get headaches and at times when the *premonition* is a really strong one they can faint.

What they can do is float across a room rather quickly, but they cannot go any higher than about a foot for now. They can levitate another person with them if they’re touching this person. In the future they will be able to actually fly long distances very far up into the sky and take people with them without even touching them.

Info: Grey was born in New York and have lived there all his life. He was born to apathetic and uncaring parents who never really paid him much attention. He was basically a mistake, they were very much into their jobs. They were both workaholics and they barely even saw each other, so a baby wasn’t even a factor. It was just a mistake, and since neither of them believed in abortion they had Grey. He basically had to take care of himself throughout the years, spending most of his life in their ice-cold huge apartment. His parents were pretty well off, both being lawyers, so he always got what they thought he wanted. Like the latest video games, the latest technology, the latest clothes. But what he’s always really wanted was their love. Which he never got. So he became angry and distant and soon became known as the “The Goth” he didn’t care what people thought and embraced this image, buying black clothing, wearing scull and crossbones. Getting tattoos and piercings were his things.

When he was 14 though his parents had the sudden urge to travel so they left him with his maternal grandmother, who was somewhat more normal then they were. She's been sick lately though so Jensen doesn't have a lot of time ti paint because he'd taking care of her.

Info: Lucas has lived in New York all of his life, though far from the big city. He moved to the big city once he graduated High School because that is 'where everything was.' But that's getting a little ahead, first his childhood. It was just him, his mother and two sisters (one older and one younger). Yes the middle child, and it was this fact that probably caused him to always feel the need to stand out. Whether it be through acting out against authority or through more productive means. He has done it all. He has been the good guy and he has been the bad guy. It was when he was forced to take a performing arts class in middle school, it was a graduation requirement, that he found his passion, music. His mother was reluctantly supportive. She always believed that it was just a phase he would grow out of. In his high school years he put together a band. They would practice in their spare time and play any gig they could get. School wasn't a priority but, like stated above, he did graduate. Him and his bandmates believed that they were restricted in the town they were in, they always played in the same places for the same people. So they collectively decided to move to NYC to try and reach a broader audience. After two years of struggling to get anything going for them it started to pick up. They were building up a fan base and slowing making a name for themselves. It was after living in NYC for two and a half years that they were approached by a record executive about a possible record deal. The company was one of the best and the deal was something that they had dreamed about for years but there were strings attached. The band would go through a period of...'restructuring.' They were told it would make them more 'marketable' in order to reach a wider audience. This was something that Lucas did not believe in. He felt very strongly about maintaining the message of their music and not losing who they were because it would sell more records. Sadly his baldpates didn't feel the same. He walked, they signed and the record company just found a replacement for him. It is difficult to explain that feeling. The feeling that you were just a commodity and that you are easily replaced. He had been with these guys for six and a half years and they abandoned him without a second thought. That takes us to where he is now. A struggling musician in the big city, hopping from job to job because of his disregard of authority, barely making it financially, and really not caring. Though he does have to deal with the agony of having to see his former baldpates on shows like Cribs showing off their million dollar mansions, that's just adding salt to the wound.

He doesn’t let anything worry him too much. There was a time where that wasn’t the case though, and it’s a time he’d rather forget. A few years ago, he was friends with some guys with who he got involved in a group of young thieves. He and his friends would con people out of house and home if it was asked of them. Then one night, things went wrong. Their mark got killed. Graham hadn’t been there, home sick with the flu, but his friends were arrested. That was his wake-up call. The two lived in a shelter for a year before Mrs. Yates managed to save enough money to give them a decent apartment. In the following years, Danielle and her mother worked to rebuild their lives. By the time she got there, the Yates women were living much more comfortably and Danielle could finally let go. In college she was able to find a side of herself she hadn’t seen before – one that could have fun. Info: Heather feels like she owes the world. It's not even through any fault of hers - it's her parents. When she was still just a little girl, they were in the news. They robbed a bank, holding twenty-three hostages for two days before gunning them all down. They were taken out by snipers. Heather and her brother were adopted, thankfully together. Still everybody knew who they were. Heather looked just like her mother, which didn't help her cause much. She was pushed around for years before the family, realizing the children's distress in a town populated by their parents' victims' families and friends, they'd never be at peace. So they moved. In the new town, Heather was able to feel free at last. She still feels the burden, and she keeps her past hidden. Only those she is very close to and feels she can trust (like her boyfriend) are ever told about her parents' identity. Everyone has heard of them, so it doesn't take long for people to understand what's going on. Heather was always very much into her education, finishing high school early. She'd known since she was nine years old that she wanted to be a teacher. Now at twenty-four she's realizing her dream as a high school english teacher. She loves her job and she loves helping her students. Since they're so close in age, they seem more willing to speak with her. Often students who've never met her believe she's actually one of them, giving for a bit of a shock when they realize her position in the class. Something she is known for is the club she's been maintaining for two years - The LiveLits.They reenact works both classic and recent for their personal enjoyment and sometimes for a public. She can often be seen with her nose in a new book. She goes through one, sometimes two every week. The bookstore is her haven and her home library is getting more and more loaded as time goes by.

They've lived in a small house by the beach since Ace was three. That was when Jeannie's parents started talking to her again. They paid for half, and she paid for half. The house is her haven. She loves to sit on the porch and watch the waves and the sunset come together. She would give her life for her son. When things get rough, if she loses a patient, she can always count on Ace to cheer her up and get her back on her feet. She loves their life and wouldn't dream of changing a thing. She's gone on the odd date over the years, but nothing, no one, has stuck.

Info: Lili was born in a small area of California, Yuba City. She is the only child of Ashley and Justin. Her childhood was less than perfect, and her life now is nothing different. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother lived in denial about it. Lili can't remember when the drunken stupor of her father turned to drunken violence but she does remember the fact that her mother was the target for much of it. Lili was determined to do something about it but, when she would tell her mother about things they could do to stop him, Lili would end up being punished by her. It was when she was 9 that the aggression from her father shifted from her mother to her. It seemed that every little thing that she would do 'wrong,' her father would completely go off on her and punish her for it. So she tried to be the perfect daughter that she thought he wanted, but he would punish her anyway. Because to him, she was always doing something wrong. Then one night he went too far, so far that Lili ended up going to the emergency room and it took her a few months to recover fully. Her father was placed in jail and they moved across the country to New York, she was 12. She still holds a few scars from that night, both physically and emotionally. It is possibly the reason why she is so insecure about herself and constantly trying to be perfect, to this day. Growing up she was always told that she was always wrong and unworthy. She's still stuck with a mother that continues to blame her for what happened to her father and makes sure that she knows it. Not to mention the fact that Lili still fears that one day he will come back for her, to punish her, and that this time she won't survive. Her only solice is through writing and singing. They help as a distraction as well as a form of release. There is also her opptimistic view on life, that somehow it will get better. That she will be saved, like those in the books she reads and movies she see.
Power: Precognition- They have the ability to see the outcome of events. They cannot tell when this will come to them, but they get flashes of things that will happen. Also they are able to predict the outcome of events and feel things that are about to happen and they can tell if there is someone else nearby. In the future they will be able to control this ability and even be able to change the outcome of events just by willing it. They get headaches and at times when the *premonition* is a really strong one they can faint.
