Welcome to Newport

Rich in history, Newport prides itself on being a vibrant community offering a wide variety of events and activities year-round. Whether you were drawn here to enjoy the music festivals, yachting regattas, mansion tours, professional tennis at the Newport Casino or a day at the beach, Newport offers you a picturesque location to relax and enjoy.

This unique island community instantly blends the old and the new - colonial homes stand feet away from modern condominiums and offices. The bustling harbor glistens as elegant yachts, luxury liners and lobster boats compete for space. All of these combined are the charm that is Newport.

Founded in 1639, Newport's first residents were settlers seeking religious freedom. The area was soon recognized for its ideal trade location and quickly developed into one of the major seaports on the east coast. Beautiful schooners and trade ships billowed into the harbor, crowding the wooden docks and bringing exotic treasures.

Newport's era as a seaport diminished with the British occupation of 1776, however it was rediscovered in the 1800's by the country's wealthy citizens as the ideal location to spend their summers. Suddenly, elaborate mansions and villas sprung up along Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive - each more ornate and luxurious than the one next door. These "summer cottages" provided the perfect backdrop for "The 400", an elite group of the very rich. This extravagant era officially opened the door to America's first resort.

Life In Newport

Since the 1800s, America has changed dramatically yet Newport still has the same grandeur it had two hundred years ago. People with last names such as Vanderbilt no longer live next door, yet the wealthy and powerful still do gravitate towards Newport. The most respected people in all of Newport occupy the Mansions, yet behind closed doors life is not nearly as picturesque as it seems.

Betrayal, lies, secrets- Newport is not immune to scandal, it just happens to cover it up better than most towns. While certain people and even certain families might seem to be perfect, everyone in Newport is far from it. If anything, a place as illustrious as Newport has more secrets than your typical American town. If Newport is like other communities where everyone knows everyone else, it's hard to keep a secret forever.

These deceptions can tear a family apart. They can ruin a reputation. They can ruin friendships. They can create new enemies. They can hurt in the worst possible way. While some are more trivial than others, everyone in Newport has at least one skeleton hiding in their closet.

The Rules

The boy/girl rule is in effect and you will have to play at least one adult. You can have either two characters or four characters, at most only half of your characters can be stand alones. If you have four characters, it will be one old guy, one young guy, one old girl and one young girl. Old constitutes as anyone over the age of twenty-five. Twenty-five or younger is considered young. This rp is not only about teenagers. If you are not going to post or will write posts that are only one line long, don't join Grammar and spelling are important, if you have problems with spelling correctly just use spell check (it's a handy little invention). This rp does not have a plot exactly; I designed it so it's sort of like a soap opera in that a lot can be going on at once. Props go to Letty for helping me with some of the profiles.

The Families These are the families that own one of the mansions, they are rich, they are respected and they are not nearly as perfect as they seem.

The Abernathys

The Abernathy family comes from more humble beginning than the rest. Monique Abernathy inherited a lot of money when her grandfather died and careful investments led to them becoming a very well off family and fifteen years ago they moved into New Port. They are very respected and while they aren't as familiar of faces as the other residents of Newport, the Abernathy's have found fitting in rather easy.

Name: John Abernathy
Age: Forty-Eight
Job: Police Officer
Relationships: John and his wife, Monique, have been together for twenty-seven years. They've had good times and bad, and they've managed to get through it all and keep their relationship in tact. John loves both of his kids, but he doesn't understand either of them that well. He is acquaintances with just about everyone in New Port, but his closest friend is unquestionably Arthur DeLaeur. While he gets along with just about everyone, John cannot stand Taylor Morgan. John's job is to enforce the law and the fact that Taylor constantly disobeys it without getting caught is getting on John's last nerve.
Personality: There are two very different sides of John Abernathy. When it's just John and his friends, he is a very nice and enjoyable. Always congenial, it's hard not to like John after talking to him for a little while. He's the type of person that will do whatever he has to in order to help others. While he isn't always around, John is there when you need him. When it comes to work, John is a much more somber and serious person. He honestly loves his job and feels it gives a purpose in his life, but it also takes away a lot of time from his family.
Secret: Long before John was a cop and a father, he had his own run ins with the law. While you can chalk it up to being a stupid teenager, the fact that he has his own small rap sheet from when he was a minor isn't something he wants everyone to know. If you found out a police officer had been arrested for breaking and entering, vandalism and disorderly conduct among other things, would you respect him as much?

Name: Monique Abernathy
Age: Forty-Seven
Job: School Counselor
Relationships: Monique has always stuck by her man. While John often is too busy with work to pay attention to his family, Monique has gotten used to it and isn't really bothered when he skips out on dinner or breaks a date. Monique's kids, Heather and Michael, are the main focus in her life. She knows just about everything there is to know about them and is both their friend and their mother. Monique gets along with the DeLaeur's but her closest friends don't live in Newport.
Personality: In a word, Monique is understanding. If you tell her your problems, its almost certain that she will come up with a good way to fix things. Honest yet kind, Monique doesn't lie but she's not the type to intentionally hurt people with the truth either. She's a very mellow and calm person but if you get on her bad side you will regret it. Monique may be nice but she's unforgiving and has an edge to her that most people are lucky enough to never have to see.
Secret: Monique wants to leave Newport. While she was the one that suggested coming here in the first place, she hasn't really managed to enjoy herself for the last fifteen years. She hasn't said anything about it yet, but the thought of moving back to Chicago has been on her mind a lot lately.

Job: Works part time at Leelee's Clothing Shop
Relationships: Heather cannot stand her dad and likes it best when he's not around. In her opinion, John just manages to mess up the regular schedule when he does come home from work before midnight and tries to be "Dear Old Dad". As much as Heather dislikes her father, she loves her mother. Heather and Monique are very close and the only reason Heather is still living with her family is because she wants to be around her mom. Heather and Michael have a typical brother/sister relationship; he annoys her & she makes fun of him. While they constantly bicker, Heather really does care about her little brother. Not that she would admit it or anything. Heather has always gotten along with guys better than girls so it's not that surprising her best friends are boys, with the exception of Avalon Morgan. Heather has been buds with Karter Harrison and Saxon DeLaeur for a long time. She's also gotten to know Luke Morgan fairly well, but only in a physical sense.
Personality: If you want to stick one label on Heather, bitch isn't quite accurate but comes closer than just about every other word. Strong-minded, independent and incredibly confident, Heather can be quite intimidating. Heather seems to be almost fearless and she's got more balls than some guys do. If you do know Heather well, consider yourself lucky. Heather has always been a very guarded person and getting to know her is about as easy as finding that pin in a haystack.
Secret: Just about everyone knows that Heather and Luke have hooked up. What no one really knows is that the only reason Heather even looks at Luke is to piss off her father although she doubts he even cares.

Job: None
Relationships: Mike has a good relationship with both of his parents. While they aren't his best friends, he respects both his mother and his father. His sister, Heather, has the ability to just about always make him sweat. She knows just what to say to get him embarrassed and while he does like his sister, sometimes he can't help but wish she would just shut up. Mike is friends with just about everyone. No one is really his enemy and his closest friend would have to be Avalon Morgan.
Personality: In one word, Mike is friendly. He's that outgoing guy that no one can really dislike because he's just so dang nice. Some find him annoying and he can be a bit too enthusiastic at times. Mike can enter a room full of strangers and leave a room full of friends. Mike is the guy that every father would love his daughter to date. Respectful and a true gentleman, Mike is one of the few guys that still believes in common courtesies such as opening doors and always remembering to say please & thank you.
Secret: While Mike doesn't seem to have anything to hide, he is beginning to question his sexuality. While it would surprise most, Mike is almost certain that he is gay. Is he going to tell anyone about it? Heck no, Mike is just coming to terms with the fact that he is in the closet, there is no way he's going to be jumping out of it anytime soon.

The DeLaeurs

Newport's very own celebrity couple, the DeLaeurs add a bit of Hollywood glitz and glamour to Newport. They are constantly making social appearances and throw the most popular parties in all of Newport. While they've been out of the movie business for years now, paparazzi and reporters still come to see what they are up to every once in awhile.

Name: Arthur DeLaeur
Age: Fifty-One
Job: He was an award winning director but left the business and has been lounging around ever since.
Relationships: When Arthur announced that he was marrying his leading lady, just about everyone was skeptical. It was Arthur's second marriage and he's been happily married to the love of his life, Vivian, for the past twenty-four years. Arthur is an extremely involved father and is close to both of his children. He has been a good friend of John Abernathy for the last fifteen years.
Personality: Soft-spoken and easy going, it's hard not to like Arthur. He is incredibly intelligent and people always come to him for advice. Content with a beer and a game of scrabble, Arthur has never been very hard to please. While he is always throwing big parties and banquets, it's not really his thing. Arthur will do just about anything to make his wife happy. It's rare for him to ever raise his voice and he can take just about anything in stride.
Secret: Arthur doesn't have any secrets. Honestly, his life is like an open book. He does, however, know just about everyone else's secret. He's not a snoop; people just like to tell him things including things that no one else knows. He doesn't betray trust though, so no one, not even Vivian, has ever found out a juicy tidbit through Arthur.

Job: An academy award nominated actress, Vivian is beginning to look at scripts again after a twenty year hiatus.
Relationships: Vivian is happily married. Her husband Arthur is the most important man in her life, followed by their son Saxon. Active in both Saxon and Corin's lives, Vivian always needs to know what's going on in their lives. While she doesn't really have any enemies, Vivian isn't too fond of Deena or Taylor Morgan. She is on good terms with the Abernathy's. Vivian is on good terms with the Harrison's as well, but she knows Kate a lot better than she knows Clint.
Personality: It's easy to recognize Vivian without seeing her face, all you need to hear is her voice. She's extremely talkative and has always got something to say if there is a willing listener. Friendly to an extent, it's just as easy to be Vivian's friend as it is to be her enemy. She is a very confident person and seems to have absolutely no insecurities. Put together and very fashionable, Vivian has yet to come to terms with the fact that she has hit middle age.
Secret: Before she met Arthur and shortly after her first movie, Vivian became pregnant. She was able to disappear from the public's eye; during that time she had the child and gave it up for adoption. While she has never regretted her decision, Vivian has always wondered about her son.

Job: Part-time at Al's Auto Shop
Relationships: Like many, Saxon tells his father Arthur everything. He isn't as close to his mom and fights with Vivian a fair amount of the time. As for his sister, Saxon doesn't really hang out with her although he does try to protect her. One of Saxon's best friends is Karter, but Saxon can't stand Karter's mother Kate who is always hanging around the DeLaeurs place. Aside from Karter, Saxon is a good friend of Heather Abernathy. Emalyn Morgan, Corin's friend, constantly tries to flirt with him. While some would think it's flattering, Saxon finds it downright annoying.
Personality: There are those who need to sugarcoat everything and then there are those who tell things like it is--Saxon belongs in the later group. Brutally honest and cynical, if you ever need a pep talk Saxon is not the guy to go to. He has a morbid sense of humor, a sarcastic comment for every situation and is not the easiest guy in the world to get along with. He isn't a bad guy, but he isn't the best guy to bring home to your parents either.
Secret: While it's not that big of a deal, Saxon will never admit to the fact that he is head over heels for a girl. It's not just any girl, but the one he would probably never have a chance in hell with. Avalon Morgan. In fourth grade, Saxon had a crush on her and it never went away. While he tries to ignore it and push it out of his mind, his heart skips a beat whenever he sees her. Would he ever tell anyone? Nope, even Saxon has pride.

Relationships: Corin has always found her family to be rather suffocating. Her dad isn't all that bad, he's always around but he doesn't pressure her into long meaningful talks or ask fifty billion questions before letting Corin leave the house. No, it's her mom Vivian that always does that. Corin's mother drives her absolutely nuts. Her brother Saxon isn't that bad, but he does have a tendency to scare boys away that can get annoying. If you ever asked Corin who her best friend was, she'd answer without hesitation-- Emalyn Morgan. Corin and Emalyn have been friends ever since kindergarten and have a relationship most people just can't understand. One day they'll be fine, the next they won't be on speaking terms and the day after that everything is great again. Corin and Emalyn are friends but they fight a lot. Little things, such as how Emalyn always ignores Corin when Saxon is around, piss Corin off. Nevertheless, Emalyn has always been and probably always will be Corin's best friend.
Personality: Corin is your typical teenage girl. Giggly, energetic and very rambunctious, Corin is never the type to just hang out at home. She's boy crazy and has pictures of Vin Diesel posted all over her room. While it might seem like Corin's most pressing issue is to get home in time to watch the newest episode of Gilmore Girls, she isn't nearly as simple-minded as she seems. While just about everyone thinks of Corin as being the ditzy cheerleader type, she's a lot smarter than she appears.
Secret: Corin has never liked it when Emalyn shamelessly flirts with Saxon. Instead of just watching it happen over and over, Corin has devised a plan to get Emalyn's mind off of her brother. She convinced a guy at their school to woe Emalyn and is going to pay him money to date her.

The Harrisons

The Harrisons are the most cherished family in Newport. Many believe that they can do no wrong and they are the image of a good Christian family. Their family donates large sums of money to a variety of different charities and a wing in the Newport hospital is actually named after them.

Name: Clint Harrison
Age: Forty-Four
Job: CEO of Sampson Shipping, the largest shipping company in the United States
Relationships: Clint and Kate had been married for twenty-one years, yet Kate is not the love of his life. That title belongs to Deena Morgan. Prior to meeting and marrying Kate, Clint and Deena were romantically involved. They never officially broke up but when Clint returned from a business trip with a wife, the relationship came to an abrupt halt. Clint's parents had their hearts set on him marrying Kate, a friend of the families, and Clint could never displease his parents. While Clint does care about Kate and the son they have together, his heart has always been in another place. The passion he had with Deena rekindled, despite the fact that they both were married, seventeen years ago and they have been carrying on an affair quietly ever since. The one person that Clint can't stand is Taylor Morgan, Deena's husband.
Personality:Clint always means well. Despite the fact that his heart is almost always in the right place, the outcomes of his actions have always been rather mixed. Clint, for the most part, is a good guy. Aside from the fact that he lacks a backbone, there isn't anything bad you can say about Clint. He's always trying to cheer others up and will make an idiot out of himself just to get someone to crack a smile. Clint has always been very charismatic and people gravitate towards him.
Secret: The seventeen year affair between Clint and Deena isn't exactly something he's telling the world. One thing that absolutely no one knows, including Deena, is that he is contemplating leaving Kate.

Job: Kate doesn't make money, she just spends it.
Relationships: Kate wanted Clint ever since she first laid eyes on him. While Kate and Clint are married, she's always felt that Deena is a threat to her happiness. Kate and Deena do not get along at all and Kate makes a point to remind Deena that Clint is her husband every time she gets the chance. Kate has spoiled her son Karter and while she always talks about how close they are, Kate hardly knows him at all. Kate's closest friend is Vivian DeLaeur, whom she frequently shops and gossips with.
Personality: Kate seems to be one of the sweetest people to have ever walked the planet but, as the saying goes, things are always what the seem. While most would describe her as generous and kind, this is only a facade. A gossip, Kate loves nothing more than spreading a good rumor. She also loves spending Clint's money. If Kate cares about one thing it's getting the best in life; the best clothes, the best car, the best husband, the best image... Kate can't help but feel proud that she has it all.
Secret: Kate sort of got in trouble with the law. She was in a car accident and she had been driving drunk. Clint knows and so does John, but she's made sure no one else knows. Kate was fined and has to do community service to avoid jail time and she's not the least bit happy about it.

Relationships: Karter isn't really that close to either of his parents. His mom is always busy with Vivian and his dad has a tendency to dissapear whenever Karter feels like talking to him. Karter is friends with a very limited amount of people. His best friends are Saxon DeLaeur and Heather Abernathy. He really can't stand Luke Morgan. He never liked Luke but ever since he learned that Luke's been with Heather, he's despised him even more.
Personality: Karter has never really fit into a certain mold. He's just your average guy and has made his share of mistakes in the past. He's always been creative and actually went to art school for a while after high school. While Karter is a dreamer, he also happens to be a major slacker. While he does get things done, he gets them done on his own time. Deadlines and due dates don't mean a thing to Karter Harrison.
Secret: He's not planning on going back to art school like he's been telling everyone he will. Karter is happy with his job and his friends are in New Port so what would be the point in going back to school?

The Morgans

The last name of Morgan can strike fear in the hearts of many. They have always been rich and have earned their money and respect in ways that law-abiding citizens wouldn't. The Morgans are Newport's very own crime family, but they are careful enough that there is a good chance no one will ever be able to prove it.

Age: Forty-Six
Job: Officially, Taylor is the president of GenTech, a computer company. Unofficially, he's the leader in a major crime ring.
Relationships: Taylor and his wife Deena are always either fighting or making up. They have had a rather turbulent marriage and there have been more downs than ups. Taylor takes the time to dote on his son but hardly ever pays attention to his daughters. As for his relationships with others in New Port, he doesn't have any unless it concerns business. He doesn't particularly like the feeling that he's being watched so John Abernathy isn't exactly on the top of his friends list.
Personality: Hotheaded, moody and passionate, Taylor is a man who always has a tough time controlling himself. He is temperamental, he does have a nasty streak in him and you do not want to ever find yourself on his bad side. Taylor does not put up with any crap and the only person who ever has talked back to Taylor and lived is his wife Deena. Morals are not an issue for him and he always gets his way in the end, if you want to cross him you better remember that.
Secret: While people think they have some idea about what Taylor does for a living, they don't know the half of it. Actually, one person does know a fair amount about his business transactions---that person being the one who is blackmailing him. While Taylor has been paying off the mystery person, he's just waiting until he figures out who it is. When he does find out, he will deal with the person accordingly but in the meantime, he is beginning to become slightly paranoid.

Job: None, Taylor wouldn't dream of it.
Relationships: Deena and Taylor have been on one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride since they wed in 1983. While she respects him, half of the time Deena can't stand the sight of her husband. Her twin daughters, Emalyn and Avalon, are Deena's saving grace and she loves them more than life itself. If there is one person that Deena cannot stand, it's Kate Harrison. She has a fair amount of reasons why, but the main one is that Kate married the only man Deena has ever truly loved, Clint. Taylor was nothing more than a rebound from when Clint broke Deena's heart. While no one would ever expect Deena Morgan to be hung up on a guy, she's never let go of Clint.
Personality: When you mix brains with beauty, the end result is a femme fatale like Deena Morgan. Beautiful yet vicious, Deena is a bitch. If she doesn't like you, she'll be sure to let you know. Deena speaks her mind and disregards consequences. She never seems to be affected by the words or actions of others. Despite the fact that you will never see her shed a tear, Deena has been crying on the inside for years.
Secret: There is only one person that Deena keeps absolutely no secrets from, her daughter Avalon. Just about no one knows that Deena and Clint have been carrying on a relationship behind Kate and Taylor's backs for seventeen years. The fact that Deena loves Clint isn't something she will ever tell him. The fact that Emalyn and Avalon are actually his daughters, not Taylor's, well she probably won't tell him that either. The only person that knows it all is Avalon.

Relationships: Luke has always been Taylor's favorite child and he is the only one that Taylor has showed the family business to. Luke and his mother rarely talk and it's the same situation with him and his sisters. Emalyn does get on Luke's nerves quite often. Just like Taylor, Luke doesn't like John Abernathy. He has hooked up with John's daughter, Heather, on several occasions. There relationship is purely sexual and Luke doesn't think of her as anything more than an easy lay.
Personality: Detached and quiet, Luke has always been a rather mysterious guy. If you have ever gotten the advice to watch out for the quiet ones, you should definitely listen to is in Luke's case. While he is intelligent, Luke is more temperamental than his mother and father combined. Luke does get in fights fairly often (both with fists and words) and he isn't the type to ever back down.
Secret: Luke has no desire to carry on the family business. While he will do what he has to, Luke wants out more than anything else. He's just praying for the opportunity to arise.

Relationships: Avalon has never been close to Taylor or Luke. She is close with her twin sister Emalyn, but there has always been some sort of imaginary line in their relationship. Ever since she was twelve years old and spied her mother in a comprising position with Clint Harrison, Avalon has been Deena's confidant. Avalon has no problems with the Abernathys and is good friends with both Mike and Heather.
Personality: Avalon has always been very down-to-earth and is probably the only Morgan family member who can be described as approachable. While some might see the fact that she is a nice person as a sign of weakness, Avalon is far from being a pushover. Independent and very smart, Avalon can take care of herself. When she makes up her mind about something or someone it's rare for Avalon to change it. If you hurt her once, she'll never give you the opportunity to do so again. While she does believe in giving everyone a first chance, she never dispenses second chances.
Secret: Aside from everything she found out through her mother, there is one thing that would shock a lot of people if they found out. Avalon has been blackmailing her own father for the past four months. There is something about making that bastard squirm that Avalon finds immensely satisfying. When she gets enough information on him, she has every intention of helping John Abernathy put "daddy dearest" in jail

Relationships: Unlike her sister who has never minded the lack of attention they'e received from Taylor, Emalyn has always cared and has tried many times to get his attention. She' never gotten along with Luke and Emalyn does her best to annoy him. Emalyn is close to her sister, Avalon, and her mother, Deena, but she can' help but feel left out of a lot of their conversations. Emalyn has had an extremely eventful friendship with Corin. Corin is definitely Emalyn' best friend, but they do get into arguments a fair amount of the time. Emalyn has been friends with Corin for as long as she can remember, and she' been chasing after Corin' brother Saxon for just as long. It' not that she has a crush on him, he just happens to be single, attractive and around a lot. The fact that he doesn' respond to her advances has made her only want him more.
Personality: Emalyn is a wild child. She' willing to trying everything once and is up for just about anything. Emalyn is far from innocent. She had her first kiss when she was in second grade and love the fact that she has had more experience with boys than Avalon. As much as Emalyn likes her sister, she's always eager to steal Avalon's spotlight. Emalyn is a drama queen and wants all eyes on her. She tries to make it so that when she's not happy, no one is happy. Frequently pulling the poor little rich girl act, Emalyn has a tendency to get on people's nerves. She isn't nearly as wild and slutty as her persona makes her seem. Emalyn just wants some attention and she will go about getting it whatever way she can.
Secret: Last year, Emalyn became pregnant. Immediately telling her father, Taylor sent her to a clinic that would "take care" of the problem. She never told anyone about the baby other than her dad and seeing as how she aborted it, there is a good chance no one will ever know.

Brief History: Orphaned at the age of two, Teresa remembers nothing of her parents aside from what other people have told her. While people only say the best about her mother and father now that they are deceased, they were two of the most despised people in the entire town when they lived. Enrique De La Fuentes was Taylor Morgan's right-hand man and "dealt" with problems as a favor to Taylor on a regular basis. Her mother, Maria, was a spiteful woman who broke seemingly happy marriages and ruined families whenever Enrique wasn't around. Since their deaths, details such as these have been forgotten and Teresa has been on the receiving end of "you poor thing" looks for years despite the facts that her life has been more than taken cared for by her godparents and she has a good sum of money put away in trusts.
Personality: Quiet, demure, elusive--Teresa has never been the most social of sorts and is usually at her happiest when she's alone with a good book. When Teresa does come out of her shell a little and actually talks, people quickly discover that she is intelligent, witty and one of the most genuinely nice people you will have ever meet. While some might make the assumption that Teresa is a bit naive, she's far from it and actually is more aware of the ways of the world than most people are. Teresa sees things that usually go unnoticed and with the brains to be able to put two and two together, she has uncovered many secrets that most people do not notice. Teresa is never unnecessarily mean and would rather walk on egg shells all day than hurt someone's feelings, yet if you hurt her whatever regard she may have had for you will dissolve in seconds. Payback is a bitch and so is Teresa when provoked.
Tie To Family: The goddaughter of Deena and Taylor Morgan, Teresa just recently moved out of their mansion after having lived there for sixteen years. Despite having her own apartment now that she's out of high school, Teresa is still often found at the Morgan residence.
Relationships: An honorary member of the Morgan family, Teresa has a sisterly relationship with Luke, Emalyn and Avalon. Closer to Luke and Avalon than she is to Emalyn, Teresa has never been as fond of Emalyn as everyone else and fairly often Emalyn would drive her absolutely crazy, something which has happened less and less frequently after moving out of the house. Teresa's apartment is right next door to Marshall's, and she finds her new neighbor to be rather intriguing. While it might seem weird, Teresa's best friend is also her boss, Greenlee Stanton. Ever since starting work at Leelee's three years ago, Teresa has had a very close relationship with the slightly kooky older lady.
Secret: Teresa's secret is one that even she has yet to figure out. Everyone knows about the catastrophe: the car accident that ended the lives of both her mother and her father. But no one knows that the cause behind it was actually Taylor Morgan. After years of doing Taylor's bidding, Enrique had decided to go straight but he happened to make the mistake of telling Taylor before he did so. Taylor had one of his other employees take care of the problem by fixing their car so that Enrique was bound to get into an accident. While the car did crash according to plan, Maria was in it along with Enrique, leaving Teresa without any parent, which wasn't supposed to happen. While Teresa has always been curious as to why Taylor has provided her so much in life, she has always figured it just to be a kind gesture rather than going deeper and discovering that Taylor was the cause of her being parentless by the age of two.

Brief History: Born and bread in New York City, Novalie has led what most would call a "free-spirited" life. Neither of her parents really spent too much time in looking after her, and her older siblings had all ventured off to college by the time she hit junior high school. While she always got fairly good grades in school, the occasional mishap often brought her to the principle's office, leaving her parents with a constant thorn at the side of their hips. She's smart, but she's always had a tendency for not always looking before leaping and after having been expelled from her third school for setting a hose off in her head master's main corridors at an all girl's school in New York City, her parents thought it was about time she shaped up which is why she's been sent to live with her aunt's family in New Port.
Personality: Hot one minute and cold the next, Novalie is one big contradiction after another and you never really know what your going to get with her at any given time. A myriad of contradictions, Novalie is a different person from one day to the next and isn't someone who will cave easily to the pressure of converting like many her age. Opinionated and outspoken, she does what she wants, says what she wants, and tries not to worry about the consequences that may follow. Novalie obviously, is no angel, but she by no means is stupid or inconsiderate either. Loyalty is an important aspect she looks for in people, and even though her actions are sometimes misleading, her intentions are always in the right place. Novalie is not perfect and she doesn't pretend to be. She's as wild as she is intelligent and has been known to make mistakes just like every other normal human being on the planet.
Tie To Family: Novalie is Kate Harrison's niece, Clint Harrison's by marriage. Although the Harrison's feel a little iffy about welcoming Novalie into their care with the risk of her tainting their perfect name, they knew they couldn't turn down the request of family.
Relationships Having just arrived in town, Novalie has yet to form any real relationships with other people in New Port and has only really interacted with the Harrison's. She has seen glimpses of Luke Morgan, the guy that all the Harrison's are advising her to stay away from. If Luke really is as bad as everyone says, it makes no difference to Novalie, she isn't exactly a stranger to trouble.
Secret: After only have arrived in New Port a little less than three weeks ago, it would appear that Novalie's entire life is a secret. All that's really known about her is that she's Kate's niece and moved to New Port from New York City. Both Kate and Clint know the more recent of circumstances which were the final straws to break on the camel's back so to speak, but what they don't know is the true extent to Novalie's problems which although don't plague her life now, have hindered her before hand. At the age of fourteen she began experimenting with a few drugs, pot and ecstasy being the main two. After one night of trying heroin though, Novalie over dosed at the age of fifteen and was placed in a drug rehab program for three weeks. She's been clean for over two years, and despite her rather audacious nature, she has no intentions of going down that road again.

Brief history: Adopted directly after birth by two of the sweetest people to ever grace the planet, Marshall was raised in an upper middle class family and always treated if he really was Madeline and Christopher's son. Madeline and Christopher never hid the facts behind his birth from him and despite loving them both, Marshall grew to have a small obsession with finding his biological parents in his teen years. While he never was able to find much out, the files were sealed; it did lead him to discover his love for investigation. After graduating from college with honors and having interned at a local newspaper, Marshall was offered a job at one of the nation's top entertainment magazines, which he gladly accepted.
Personality: When someone is conversing with Marshall, usually the other person is talking and Marshall is just occasionally interjecting questions or nodding his head. By the end of a twenty-minute talk, he'll probably have you pinned and you still won't know the first real thing about him. Even though he is friendly, no one really knows Marshall all that well and he isn't the type of guy to bare his sole to just anyone. While Marshall is a generally nice guy, he's far from being a saint and will do just about anything if it means a good article. He knows how to get people to expose their most intimate thoughts and gets answers to the questions most people are too afraid to ask. Scrupulous and frighteningly intelligent, Marshall is almost always one step ahead of everyone else.
Tie To Family: Marshall was sent to New Port to write an article on Vivian DeLauer. With a possible comeback pending for the former Hollywood hot commodity, interest and speculation has raised about how her life is currently. Marshall is supposed to find out everything, from the stability her marriage with Arthur to what the lives of all her nearest and dearest friends are like. While Vivian has agreed to interview for the article, that's only part of the expose Marshall was assigned to write.
Relationships: Ever since arriving in town, Marshall has been busy sticking his nose in other people's business, yet he has yet to form any sort of bond that would be described with the word relationship, unless business is smacked directly in front of it. Although he has talked to the DeLauer's on several occasions as well as some of their more prominent friends, Marshall doesn't really know anyone. He does know, however, that the girl who lives in the apartment directly next to his is the most beautiful person he has ever seen. While he doesn't object to mixing business with pleasure, Marshall has yet to decide whether or not to make a move on Teresa De La Fuentes.
Secret: After doing his background check on Vivian while researching for the article, he noticed that she disappeared for a matter of months years ago, not attending one premiere or working on a single movie for over six months. Eventually Marshall was able to find out exactly where Vivian had been during that time and what she had been doing. Simply put, Marshall knows that Vivian had a baby twenty-five years ago, which she gave up for adoption. While he's not certain since the files are still sealed, Marshall has gathered enough information that he is pretty sure that he is the very child she left behind.

Brief History: Unlike many of the well-known, well-gossiped about, and highly prosperous families in New Port, Andrew's family couldn't get any more normal if their life was turned into the equivalent of a Leave it to Beaver modern sitcom. Alicia and Riley Walker met young, married young, and never once in their lives dreamed of falling in love with another person. Andrew along with his two older brothers and his younger sister, live in a medium sized two-story house, which they've lived in all their lives. His mother's your typical stay-at-home mom and watched after the kids and the house while his father works for the New Port Police Department.
Personality: If there is one thing that Andrew is, it's a shameless flirt. Rambunctious and outgoing, he's constantly the person spitting out some pointless joke just to tear that smile out of you and manages to always find the brightest spots in the bleakest of days. If he's your friend, then you've made a friend for life, and although his rather suggestive demeanor leaves a few people wanting to either claw their eyes out or smack him over the head, he's still not someone you can hate too easily. He's an all around good guy despite the fact that his actions are occasionally misplaced.
Tie To Family: Recently, Corin DeLeaur has approached him with the hopes that he could try to win the heart of Emalyn Morgan so that she'll leave Corin's brother alone.
Realtionships: Andrew is the guy that everyone knows and most adore; saying just about everyone is his friend would not be an overstatement. While he gets along with pretty much anyone, Andrew's best friend has been Karter Harrison for a long time and he usually hangs out with Karter's group of friends (Heather and Saxon) more than anyone else.
Secret: While Andrew has gladly agreed to help in Corin's quest to win over Emalyn whom he can't lie about when saying that she's incredibly attractive, his true motives aren't necessarily of the most platonic and with the best intentions. Andrew only agreed to go along with Corin's little scheme in the hopes that it would enable him to spend more time with her. Little does she know, Andrew's been hopelessly smitten with her since freshmen year and his frequent suggestive sexual innuendos are much more serious than she could ever imagine.

Brief history: In some ways, the story of the Stanton's seem to be that of the American ideal. Michaela and Donovan were lifelong friends who fell in love after years of knowing each other in a completely platonic way. They married at the age of twenty-six, despite having little money and moved to New Port in hopes of making a home. What they found in New Port instead was a rigid social class and an underground drug culture. Donovan, always the opportunist, eventually left his job at the New Port Bank and began to deal drugs. Soon, Donovan was earning thousands by the night and had stuck an alliance with Benjamin Morgan, who was the head honcho of the Morgan family long before Taylor was even born. The alliance was mighty profitable yet only lasted a year before Michaela became pregnant and Donovan went straight. While this was three centuries ago, no one has forgotten how the Stanton's came about their family fortune. Greenlee Stanton, the youngest grandchild of Donovan, reinforced the Stanton's reputation as trouble back when she was in high school. While other girls were getting talks about the birds and the bees, Greenlee was busy experimenting with the idea. She constantly fooled around with different guys in her teen years, yet there was always one in particular that sent her heart aflutter, Mason Connelly. After high school, Mason and Greenlee got married, despite everyone saying they were too young. Mason went to Law school and Greenlee paid for it. When Mason had finally made a name for himself and was earning a considerable sum of money, he left to Fiji with his secretary. After the divorce proceedings and with a good deal less money than she was accustomed to having, Greenlee returned to New Port and opened her own clothing store, Leelee's which has flourished within the five years since it first opened it's doors.
Personality: When you mix passion and determination together, the end result is a controlled wild child such as Greenlee Stanton. Still prone to her wicked ways, Greenlee has more than a few vices the number one being a constant need for a good time. Greenlee wants to have fun and she will do just about anything if it means she will enjoy herself. Almost always in a good mood, unless she's hung over, Greenlee is a bundle of energy and rather than slowing down over the years, she's only picking up speed. If you ask her a question, Greenlee will answer it. She's no holds bar and doesn't keep anything back. The fact that she's so open to things makes people slightly frightened and some believe that she has to be crazy. Maybe she is. If so, being insane is incredibly fun.
Tie To Family: Three months ago, Greenlee and Heather Abernathy (an employee of Leelee's) were closing up the shop when a guy with a gun came into the shop shouting orders at them to give him cash. The attempted robbery was only foiled by John Abernathy, who had arrived to pick up Heather (her car was in the shop) and was able to calm the guy down, get the gun put away and arrest the perpetrator in a matter of minutes. Ever since that incident, Greenlee has become a more regular face at the Abernathy place and she strongly believes that she owes her life to the heroics of John.
Relationships: Considered the coolest boss ever, Greenlee is friends with all of her employees and has extremely tight relationships with Heather Abernathy and Teresa De La Fuentes. She always gives them advice and lends a shoulder to cry on when it's necessary. Other than them, most people don't particularly like Greenlee who is seen as a threat to just about any marriage due to her reputation. While Greenlee always puts on a happy face, she can't stand a good portion of the people living in New Port; particularly Monique Abernathy.
Secret: When Greenlee first laid eyes on John Abernathy five years ago, she was enamored, but she kept her distance do to the fact that he was married. Since he saved her, Greenlee's innocent crush has grown to a stalker like obsession. She'll park her car outside their house at night just to watch him from afar, has learned his daily schedule to "bump" into him on a regular basis and is not going to let Monique stand in the way of her plans. While John may be Monique's husband, he's Greenlee's knight in shining armor.

Brief History: Born into a family full of sports fanatics, Russell's natural athletic talent didn't go unnoticed for long. When other kids were busy playing duck-duck-goose, Russell was busy with either shooting hoops or playing for some sort of league. The hours of practice paid off in high school where Russell was the star basketball player on his team and helped lead his team to state victory three years in a row before going to college on a scholarship and getting an offer to join the NBA as a member of the Kings directly after finishing up his bachelor's degree. Russell gladly accepted and went on to play for seventeen years and win three titles before retiring old, injured and rich.
Personality: Accustomed to always winning, Russell has never had a lack of confidence in himself. While not all out cocky, Russell is a very self-assured individual. He expects to get what he wants and in the rare event that he doesn't reach his goal, he never takes it well. Not the type of guy to ever lay down and play dead, Russell doesn't back down from a challenge. While he is a nice enough guy, he can also be rather ruthless at times. Passionate and determined, when Russell makes up his mind to do something it will get done. Having gone on sheer force of will and dedication for years, Russell is a firm believer that perseverance pays off.
Tie To Family: Having only stepped foot in New Port a month ago, there is a general assumption that everyone is a new face to Russell. However, this belief is false and Russell knows one individual person particularly well; Monique Abernathy. When he knew Monique she was his girlfriend rather than being the wife of Mr. John Abernathy. They were high school sweethearts that broke apart when he moved out of Chicago and lost touch completely just months later.
Relationships: Other than his relationship with Monique over twenty-some years ago, Russell doesn't have anything to tie him to New Port other than his job. He is Mike's new basketball coach and Russell is quickly growing fond of the kid despite his better judgment.
Secret: There are more than a few people who can't help but wonder why Russell would want to coach at New Port rather than for a NBA team or college basketball. While the official reason is that Russell wants to see the upcoming talent, his real motivation for accepting the position was the fact that Monique lives in New Port. After retiring, his thoughts have constantly gone back to the good ole days they were together and Russell hopes that those times will come again even though he's fully aware she now has a husband and a family. When Russell really wants something, he doesn't let details get in the way.
