DISCLAIMER: This idea I find to be ingenious, and so obviously I can’t have created it. This is based off of the comic book series of the same name under the Vertigo label (though I did add in a couple of my own ideas).

Fables: A Fall from Fiction

As a child growing up anywhere from Toronto to Tokyo, you most likely were told the ageless tales told to all children of sprouting beanstalks, poison apples, magic pumpkins, and flying monkeys. Though the tales were wild and wondrous, we always just accepted them for what they were: tales. Nothing like that could ever really be true.

Could it?

But what if they were true? And what if the storybook characters we knew and loved walked among us? And what if they didn’t live happily ever after?

Welcome to Fabletown.

Years ago, the land of the Fables was taken over by one known only as The Adversary. Under his domination, the Fables as they called themselves were cast out of their realm of magic and forced to hide and survive in the world of the living. They made their stay in bustling New York City, living as an underground organization and disassociating themselves from the world around them. A world inhabited by Mundanes.

They learned enough about our world to get by, to survive in a setting completely foreign to them, and to lead fairly stable lives among our people in a community they call Fabletown. Their resources are few, and they must always live under a vital law: No Fable, by action or inaction, shall reveal their magical nature to the Mundane world. It has been a good decade that they have lived in New York, building their covert empire simply to keep their secret hidden, but how long will they be forced to continue their charade? Will there never be a day again when they will be able to wake up not troubled by their situation, or the imperfect world around them? Or are they simply doomed to live Happily Never After?

The Fables

Snow White
Deputy Mayor of Fabletown. Though it is Old King Cole who holds the position of Mayor of Fabletown, it is really Snow who’s calling all the shots. Taciturn and professional, Snow handles the issues of Fabletown like a trooper, and in every situation she sees just one thing to be considered, and that is the security of their community. Despite all of her duties however she is considered around Fabletown to be quite the b***h if you catch my drift. It’s her sober and no-nonsense attitude that causes people to find her unsympathetic and high-maintenance, but no matter. There’s enough Snow has to deal with in both her professional and personal life to care what people think of her.

Bigby Wolf
Sheriff of Fabletown. Having reformed from his habits of eating pigs and stalking little girls and their grandmothers, and thus reforming his entire appearance (as was pretty much expected of him after the relocation), Bigby’s keen senses and notions have become quite an asset to the community. He realizes that he’s still looked on by many with reticence and unease, and he also gets the sense that Snow White may have constantly been questioning her decision to put him in such an authoritive position, but he doesn’t mind much. On occasion he does give reason for such question as he is sometimes quick to judge when given a situation, and he makes and sticks to his own opinions very quickly.

Rose Red
Snow White’s fraternal twin. As the unofficial wild child of the family, Rose Red is quite frequently the cause of concern around Fabletown due to her reputation of mingling with Mundanes. What can she say, is her answer? They know how to party! Rose has been estranged from her twin sister Snow White for about two years now, spurred by her sister’s rejection of her lifestyle and equally annoyed with Snow’s steely persona. She would consider herself empathetic to the feelings of others, but she does tend to be reckless with relationships both platonic and romantic. In fact, though she is truly attracted to Jack Horner, half the reason she continues her on-again-off-again relationship with him is simply to keep Snow annoyed with her. It doesn’t take much to annoy Snow any more, especially after the horrid incident with Prince Charming.

Jack Horner
From his days as a tyke trying to be a daredevil with the help of a candlestick to playing with his food at Christmas to his higher times as a budding adolescent tempting fate on a beanstalk, people have basically always known that Jack was the town bad boy. Now in his adulthood he does take the secret of Fabletown very seriously, but he still considers NYC to be his kind of town. Unless Bigby is arresting him for petty theft or illegal drug use, you can usually find the two of them paling around together, though you’re less likely to find Jack doing anything really irresponsible with Bigby around. His relationship with Rose Red has it’s ups and downs; one day you might find them together when the next they refuse to speak to each other, all depending on the weather perhaps, and yet she has continued to be one of the most constant things in his life.

Red Riding Hood
Red disappeared from Fabletown shortly after the relocation, and wasn’t seen again for several years. Only recently has she returned, and quite a changed person as well. Red, incited by her age old encounter with Bigby so many years ago, took charge of her life and has honed herself into what you might call a modern day Annie Oakley. She headed out immediately covering most of the U.S. as well as parts of Canada seeing the sights and becoming extremely self-resourceful and street smart (never revealing her true identity though, thank goodness). Many from Fabletown are happy to see that she is well and safe, but others are hesitant. Some just can’t help but wonder what her motives for coming back are and worry whether she’s given up her grudge on Bigby yet.

Prince Charming
Fabletown’s own dashing playboy. Charming is in nearly all of the fairy tales as he comes to save the day and win the princess, but behind the handsome face lies a very ugly history. At various points in time he’s been married to Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White, and all three marriages ended in divorce. The last, his marriage to Snow White, ended when his wife walked in on him with her sister, Rose Red. Not only did she divorce him but took all his money with her as well. He’s now broke, unqualified for just about any job out there and too lazy to look for one anyway. And since almost no one anymore in Fabletown will have him, he satisfies his lusts with the attractive Mundane girls which makes everyone uneasy.

Little Boy Blue
Blue Boy, or simply Blue as he’s more commonly referred to, works as Snow White’s secretary and prides himself on knowing a lot more about her than most. He also knows that once you gain her trust you do nothing to tamper with it. People know Blue to be very trustworthy and one of the more decent members of the Fable community, but he can’t help but annoy the heck out of anyone with his exuberant and zippy personality. Blue is the sort of person who needs rules, and actually likes rules, because otherwise he’d be all over the place causing havoc wherever he went, and the last thing anyone wants is yet another Jack Horner. Who, by the way, Blue idolizes beyond all else.

Beauty
Once upon a time, Beauty made the daring choice to love possibly the single ugliest man/thing in the world of the Fables, though afterwards it seemed as though things paid off as Beast turned out to be pretty handsome, but now she’s had to work to keep their marriage stable. Between the relocation and all of the trials presented to them by it, and her constant fear of having grossly hideous children with him, things have been on the rocks. Beauty to her own dismay has become a very temperamental wife, and she finds herself lashing out not only at Beast, but also at her fellow Fabletown citizens. Things have been made harder by their inability to find a stable source of income as well as Beast’s recent little transformation problem.

Beast
Beast has been served a lot of injustices for as considerate as he turned out to be. Being a monster for all those years gave him the kick in the butt he needed, but now he’s had to hold up the polite and social side of his marriage to Beauty. It’s true, they have some problems, and Beast manages with them as best he can, but it’s very hard when they really get going at each other, and suddenly the horns pop out, and the fangs crowd in his teeth, and he gets to speaking as though he were mentally impaired. He knows he’s at risk for giving away the secret of Fabletown, and breaking their most pivotal rule, but there’s really not much he can do about it. These intervals of transformation, though brief, can occur as unpredictably as a sneezing fit, and have become a liability for both his safety and his marriage.

Tom Sawyer
Tom was the self proclaimed adventurer, troublemaker and pathological liar of Fable Town. After he and his friend Huckleberry Finn found the treasure of the legendary Injun Joe they moved away from Fable Town to live among the modern everyday people. However shortly after the move Huckleberry was killed in a boating accident. Tom moved around the modern world using his money to by houses in Southern states Virginia, Georgia and Florida. However after four years of traveling he has come back to Fable Town. Besides maturing somewhat Tom has become alot dark since the death of Huckleberry and he has been noticing Snow White lately.

Profiles

Not much to it really. Just find a decent sized picture of who you want to play, the name bolded, and eight or nine lines about your character.

Please take two characters minimum. I’ve giving a lot of leeway with who you may pick; there is NO B/G rule, but then your girl can’t have a love interest without a guy, can she? (Well, I suppose she can actually, but I’m just trying to make a point, bear with me.) You are welcome to take two Pyocs, a Pyoc and an Myoc, or even two Myocs if you really want to. Myocs can be either Fables or Mundanes. We don’t necessarily need Mundanes in this rp, but if you think it would add to it, then feel free. Also, if there is a storybook character not listed here that you REALLY want to play, go ahead and make up a profile for them. All I ask is that you please try to keep them edgy, unique, and fairly normal like I’ve tried to do with these.

Oh yeah…. And PLEASE stay away from Disney.

I'll get you guys added in in a sec. For those who are interested, Prince Charming is being played by Ioan Gruffudd and Beast is Christian Bale.

I'll take the beast as well. I loved Kate and Christian together in Laurel Canyon. Weird movie though lol.

Tom Sawyer

Umm, I'd kinda like to keep the pbs for the pyoc characters who they are. Rose Red is Diane Kruger and Prince Charming is Ioan Gruffudd. Hope that's okay.

California_here_I_come: Yeah, I haven't actually fixed that yet, but yes Rose Red is taken. Also, the Wizard of Oz does count as a Fable. I was actually wondering if anyone would pick that.
