He looked for you for days,” Much to the chagrin of many of the pack, he recalled. When Aya had shown up everything was topsy-turvy in their world, the war with the vampires had just been made official on their end and the rioting had not yet stopped, much was left to be discovered and destroyed. Liberty City was still just New York City only bleaker, harder, a great sadness to a city that already was well known for its toughness. “He was a good friend to you,” he reminded. Daniel and Miles were amiable, friends even, but the two hadn’t found themselves ever spending too much one on one time together, except curiously during the time of Aya’s convalesce. There hadn’t been much support in bringing Aya into their home, not even to recover, and Miles had found himself standing mostly alone. Not convinced it was the best course of action but unable to let a girl bleed to death he’d sided with Miles in the fray. “If you’re in some kind of trouble I’m sure he still would be,” __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

She had felt bad when she did not inform him of checking out the auction on her own, nor had she not informed him that she was leaving Paris early and catch a ride back to Liberty City. "He knows that I was leaving Paris early to go back to the city. I guess he didn't exactly trust me going back with his former mentor." With her head facing down, Aya tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "I guess you could say I'm some bits of trouble myself. But it's not something I want Miles to get involved in." Exhaling slowly, Aya shook her head before sitting straight back up. What more reason to get majority of the lycan pack begrudging her for more than a decade if Aya's pursuit and actions would get Miles killed because of her? "Even that boat trip back to the city, I still haven't really found out the truth about what happened the night my father was killed when we were heading for the Canadian border. All I was told was that it had been a set up."

The laughed died into a nod, but he said nothing. Daniel seven years Miles’ senior knew a little bit more, or so he assumed, about the affairs of the state Vampire at the time of her father’s death than did the other lycan. He’d done some reconnaissance on behalf of the pack during that time and considering himself fairly well informed. That had been a time when the lycans had actually hoped to win the war, now, they simply tried to survive it. “Who told you that?” he asked, quieter. __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

Aya let out a cynical laugh before her head slowly turned up towards Daniel. "It probably explains the constant traveling I've done over the years. Never staying in one place too long. Never really knowing a lot of people personally. Just keep going until I find Louis. I'm a bit surprised that I came back to this city. I never really stay in a city twice. I don't know..." She stretched out her legs, resting on top of the pew in front of her. "Miles' friend...or whomever...Antonio, I believe, told me when he gave me the ride to Paris that all he knew was that the murder of my father was deliberate and that someone outside of the vampire lineage had been conspiring with Louis."

Daniel shook his head. “I don’t know the guy. “ Taking a deep breath he decided to appeal to Aya sincerely even though he was pretty sure any appeal would fall on deaf ears. “These things are so far removed from now. If you keep digging you’re going to find ghosts you don’t want to find, trust me. Things were a lot worse then,” he said to her. “A lot of lycans were slaves to the vampires. When I save slaves I mean it, not servants but real honest to God slaves bound in silver and tortured by it. Those that weren’t were actively trying to destroy the vampire’s covens. There were two then, before the one moved to the east and Julius was set up as Emperor here. A lot of lycans sold out their brothers, just to get out. It could be one of them. A lot of mages paid the vampires off by selling the whereabouts of fire mages and got the hell outta Dodge. It could be one of them. You’re looking for a needle in a haystack. And you don't have just one haystack, you have thousands all of which could kill you as soon as look at you, fire or not.” __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

| Elite Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Aya The fire mage sat there quietly, listening intently to Daniel's explanation about what exactly had been going on those many years ago. It did shed some light on why her father had insisted on traveling so much from place to place and not staying in one city for too long. In short to Daniel's story, it seems anyone could have set them up that night, mage or lycan. "If that was the case, why were you guys determined to sell me out to them when you took me in?" She remembered the constant bickering the few days she stayed in their place between lycans. Some of them wanting to kick her out despite her health. Others urging to show some hint of compassion, if any, and just let Aya rest. "With their emperor dead and gone and having seen Louis' potential, suppose if he was going to try to restore that part of the past?" It didn't stop her desire to pursue Louis, the man she saw murder her own father that night. And though Daniel's story might have answered one question, it only left her with another confusing puzzle. __________________ Last edited by ~+Yamiko : 10-01-2009 at 07:54 AM. | |||

You wouldn’t have been the first kind we’d seen like that, not even the first kid we’d seen like that. Anybody who saw you that night knew different, Miles knew different, I knew different, hell I think even Vaughn knew different but taking you in was still a liability. You had trouble on your ass and it got dropped right on our doorstep. If someone came looking for you they’d trace you right back to the pack, to us, and we’d be forced to defend the stead. We had a lot of people to protect, people who couldn’t fight worth a damn and still can’t.” He leaned back against the side of the pew, really letting the time past wash over him. He was a fairly present guy, looking ahead because he saw little use in looking back. Besides, there were horrors hidden in the dark crevices of history that he preferred not to think about. “The lycans and the mages both are at war with the vampires but neither of us is allied, why do you think that is? The lycan pack has never wanted the additional baggage that came with being attached to the mages. We have one war, why fight another with the fey when we don’t have to? And you guys, look at you, you’re a perfect example Aya, you’re not even allied with your kind. I’ve known Hannah for years and I know at least in passing all the mages she knows which means she just met you and you haven’t been back for long. “ He opened his eyes and looked at her profile, taking it in. “Which means you can’t possibly be thinking this all through. Where does he frequent? Where are his chambers in the coven? Who are his most trusted allies? Can any of them be bought so they can ascend in his place? You’re what, eighteen, nineteen? The Emperor is over a thousand years old. You’d have to get close enough to the situation to do any real damage and you’re here floating around by yourself bent on revenge. I’m all for it, I hear it can be therapeutic but I’m not for suicide which is what going after him alone would be. “ __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

Her last memory that she had after the ambush and before waking up in the lycans' home was being dragged through the snow looking up the night sky. After that, she had fallen unconscious. Still, it's not as if she had asked to be brought there in the first place. "And you guys, look at you, you’re a perfect example Aya, you’re not even allied with your kind. I’ve known Hannah for years and I know at least in passing all the mages she knows which means she just met you and you haven’t been back for long." "When I first came here in the city, she was nice enough to let me stay at her place for a week before I left. I guess she's still a bit ticked that I vanished from her home earlier than expected. With me going from one place to the next, it's hard to get attached. Still," Stretching out her legs, Aya ran a finger along the jagged pattern lines on the pew. Trailing off in that sentence, Aya was about to go on to say that she did not want to drag others down the path she was taking, nor have another cloud hanging above her head for being responsible of any of the deaths that would follow the day she finally faced her murderer. Just about to. But Aya knew it was a contradiction all on its own, concerning that she willingly killed a fellow mage. A mage she had not known. And surprisingly, she led Jennifer to the scene of the crime that she happened to ran in to. Daniel did have a point that Aya had not fully thought this through as simply just diving in for the kill was suicide all on its own, no matter how powerful she might be. Picking up her top hat from the floor, she placed it on her lap and with a small smile, looked up at Daniel once more. "Are you trying to propose something?"

Especially offering your help to someone you knew only once and had just met fairly recently." She looked up at the lit chandelier that illuminated the ceiling. "I told myself to not involve anyone in this mini crusade, if you want to call it that. I don't need another reason for the others in the pack to go after my head. Or having the others," In this, she referred to the other mages. "Pick up something." Her face fell, almost ready to deny Daniel's offer. She turned her head from the chandelier to Daniel, tilting her head to the side like a curious little girl with a small grin on her lips. "Then again, offers like that rarely come often, if any at all." When the part came about honesty, Aya's attention did perk with interest. "I don't mind honesty, so long as you don't betray me to anyone. The vampires, the fae, the other mages, or anyone from your pack. Especially Miles." But before Daniel was going to call Aya out on saying anything to Miles, she quickly added. "He'll find out eventually." Truth of the matter is, Aya was afraid of getting Miles, of all creatures, get hurt on account of her.

She was right, he hardly knew her and yet he felt it was right. Part of him remembered the girl, too big for the bed they laid her up in. She had been worked over, beaten, but survived. He had wondered then and still did why she’d been attacked but left alive, was it a way to further punish her, depriving her from her family or some sort of diluted act of mercy? The other part of him which so readily agreed, nay volunteered, for this asinine idea was the part that was thinking of hiring himself out to whoever needed him. This was just the sort of situation he’d been contemplating only in his mind that version included some type of payment. “I’m an idiot, that’s why I volunteered,” he said with the bark which was his laugh. He heard her terms, short and perfunctory. “Look, I don’t plan on telling Miles but when he finds out on his own, and he will find out he’s going to be your problem. I’m going to pretend I didn’t willfully cover this thing up. Also, I don’t plan on telling a lot of people but I am going to tell Meginne and Hannah, I have enough on my plate without the women in my life thinking I’m sleeping with someone else. I have enough problems, thanks. Do we have a deal?” __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

I guess you could say I'll probably tell him...just on how to break it to him." What startled Aya enough was when Daniel had brought up telling not only Meginne but Hannah as well. Fortunately for Aya, she personally did not know who Meginne was nor have the two met. Unless, by some chance they had seen each other somewhere. Dragging Hannah in to the situation might make things more complicated than she thought. "I doubt they would think you would be sleeping with me, of all people." She tried to pass that off as a joke, along with a soft laugh. "But bringing Hannah in to it...I'm not so sure. I don't know if she's still mad about the whole encounter you and I had during the auction." __________________ Last edited by ~+Yamiko : 10-02-2009 at 12:26 AM.

If I could give her some sort of explanation about the auction and a bit of past history I think she’ll be alright. She has the biggest imagination of anyone I’ve ever known and she’s already probably come up with five to six scenarios about what is going on between you and I and how we might know each other. Believe me, its better if she knows. If she gets nosey she could get hurt because she wouldn’t know what she was nosing into,” He was glad she didn’t object to sharing with Meg. For all their new problems she was very important to him and their lives, even in the short time they’d been together had intersected. He tried to never lie to her which was why when questioned about Hannah he admitted to Meginne that he was attracted to the water mage and that he considered her a friend. That had not gone over so well and it had done hell on his back – she refused to let him sleep in the same bed with her for two weeks. He suspected that only the trip to Paris and Astrid’s death had made it possible for him to come back – no one wanted to be alone now, not even the woman scorned. Yet another of their kind dead, it didn’t matter that it had happened because of her own stupidity, it just mattered that she, the youngest of their pack, was gone. “People around her get hurt everyday and most of them aren’t stupid enough to take on a newly crowned Emperor. If something happens, I think the people you care about should know about why it did. Doesn’t make it any easier but it might help them to understand things better, make peace with it,” he said as much of his own situation as Aya’s with Miles. __________________ Each game of chess MandyMeans there's one less Variation left to be played

For the short amount of time she had gotten to know Hannah, the water mage was, no doubt, one of those that have a bubbly type of personality at least most of the time. And with those like her having an active imagination, it could lead to other things that could be proven disastrous. "I'll let you tell those two under two conditions. One of them being that you don't tell anyone where I'm staying in at the moment. And second of all, more for Hannah's sake, really, that you don't tell anyone what I'm capable of. They'll find out on their own, eventually, but with what's going on right now..."
